What are your feelings, regarding Father Corapi?

Oh yeah, that wasn’t at all harsh and unwelcoming-- spoken like the good father himself.

I say, “different strokes for different folks”. I liked Mother’s style, more tough, but soft too and honest…she was very honest about her feelings about nuns, their weakness’s and faults when she was young and what she tried to change in herself (and always struggled with)
Father is a man, and men in general have a different style. Fr. Corapi was a player, manly, non-commital, a lover of superficial things. After his conversion he had many, many fans. It fed the part of him that still loved the attention but he was still doing God’s work and still changed. When the scandals hit, he admitted to wanting to quit (that was VERY honest but showed the “man” more than the priest) but he stayed…he didn;t like the snears, spitting, hate mail, etc. He admits he’s a good speaker, very good, which I think is a bit much, but maybe he needs to have something to distinguish himself. He wasn’t a priest for most of his life. HIs story is remarkable but you can’t leave yourself totally behind.
It gets tough when the initial grace of a conversion is subdued and you are in the real world with just your faith. He has helped a lot of people with his talks but the day in day out life of most priests is not in rooms with most people telling you how great you are.He comments on that quite honestly when the scandals hit also. He loved the attention. That way he has it much better although he says he wants to be alone and a hermit and I heard he suffers with migraines along with his new illness.
Fr. Corpai helped me back to the church, along with others, and I like him, but I can’t listen to him as much now. Maybe with newer material in the future, it will be different.
. I hope he is well soon and that talk, booked so far ahead will be a “go”. Again, not everyone likes him, that’s okay, but if he helps convert some, great. Just don’t put him too high on a pedestal.

Fadda John seems to be a target of much anger and hatred toward the Church itself.

I’m not a fan.

And don’t you dare say ‘truth hurts’ or some such: you don’t know me, don’t know my soul, have NO right to judge based on my taste in media personalities.

So let me explain why I’m not a fan: It seems to me he smirks when discussing his past debaucheries-- ‘I slept around! Did drugs! Hung with the In crowd! Did I mention how much I slept around?’ There doesn’t seem to be much regret there. He almost seems to be making a case for being crazy while young, but getting God once the hormones slow down.

Most of what he says is true and he has a very good way with words. It’s the constant smirk and the angry tone that put me off. He doesn’t make me want to be a better person. Doesn’t even make me want to be Catholic.

Mother Angelica was just as straight a shooter, but far less angry about it. She made Catholic orthodoxy seem attractive. Made you think it would bring you peace, wisdom, and joy.

Not so with Corapi. Pardon my language, but his faith seems to have left him perpetually pissed off.
Ironic that you would preface your comment with a harsh admonition not to judge.

Fr Corapi will be speaking in buffalo August 15, 2009. This will be his ONLY appearance. TIcket will be selling starting September 8, 2008.:extrahappy: :extrahappy: :extrahappy:

Wonder if he’s going to go to that beautiful Basilica.

He will be at HSBC Arena downtown Buffalo. The Cathedral would not hold the amount of people going. When I went to his three conferences, there was quite a bit of them. And if this is his only conference, it just may be packed! Tickets are either 25 and 35 or 35 and 45. I can’t remember at the moment.

I am in…God willing!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

i have heard of the illness he has, but i do not know what it is nor do i know
of his past scandals.

i see him as a vulnerable man whose ego probably gave him trouble and needed to be fed when he was younger and like another poster said, he still needs the attention now.

when i first started watching EWTN, i was fascinated by him. a few times i heard him mention his past. since i haven’t heard him as often as the rest of you, you have probably heard more about his past life.

he does have a smirk i will agree with that.

he is not your average priest.

but, he is like the rest of us. trying to chart his path in this crazy world.

i do believe his faith is sincere and for that i cannot fault him.

Our Dear Lord wasn’t liked by the world either. He told it to the people “too straight”. Maybe the other poster should take this into consideration. Jesus’ job was to cause division. Get people to the right eternal place: heaven or hell. Kind of sounds like what Fr. Corapi is doing. Like it or not!

I fully agree with you! Even Fr Groeschel says it like it is…it is just that he has a different personality.

I admire Fr corapi so much for his love of the Church and His Lord. He is my mentor…even if he does not know it!😉 That goes also for Fr Groeschel…

If you go to Catholic City online :catholicity.com/cds/
they have DVD’s for 1.00 or more. I got Fr. Corapi’s Amazing story and the confession one (very good) and a DVD explaining the mass. He elaborated more in talks in person on certain areas than on the DVD but it is about an hour and very good. As some posters have said, some stories get exagerated a bit with each telling, but he had a very interesting and varied life and his mom sounds like a tough, holy woman too. : )

I sometimes think of Fr. Francis when I would hear Father gloating a bit, Fr. F struggled with narcissim a lot but Fr. Corapi knows his faults and like a lot of us, works with them. I think with later vocations, it can go either way, some are very into it and work quietly with the poor or a certain area, others struggle with the past demons that were with them for decades. That’s why some orders frown on later vocations because you really do struggle with so many years of doing things your way. I know at my age (40’s) I would love to spend a few weeks living as the EWTN nuns do, but doing the same thing day in and day out and having someone tell me what my duties were each day would drive me crazy…I’m too used to doing things on my own. I would need an active order with somewhat looser rules.Different personalities serve God in different ways. I think Fr. Corapi had a nice balance, traveling and being somewhat autotomous, but having any major decisions made for him.

:clapping::yup: very well put Sam and thank you.

Objectively speaking, the Truth does hurt all. It hurst when Jesus said It and still hurts today. Nothing new under the sun!🙂

St Paul himself keeps speaking about his past in the bible…all the time. This is also a form of evangelizing…he been dere and done dat. So if he converted, there is hope also for many crack heads and pims and porstitutes…the bigger the sinner the greater the saint. This is nothing new under the sun…try St Paul, Augustine, his mother and so, so many others…read about them and you’ll see.🙂

What you accuse others of doing, you are doing yourself here. You are 'reading his mind, you are questioning his motivations, etc etc etc. Self-knowledge is a great gift from God…because without it, one cannot know God…🙂

Many would disagree with you. His fire turn up my fire. But there are some who love tip=toeing in the tulips priests…🙂

mother Angelica does not come from the past as he does…Fr corapi is walking the walk that God has ordained him to walk. So…walk away from it.🙂

Maybe there is a little projection going on here…:hmmm:

God bless Fr corapi and all those like him…we need him in the church…:signofcross:

Tallyrand said once to someone who was screaming at him to “scream louder and you might convince me”.

Words move people. Examples sweep them off their feet.

As I stated on another thread…

“There is nothing worse than a reformed rake”

:clapping::yup: very well put Sam and thank you.
oh my …I don’t think ole Sam put it very well at all…I don’t get this he doesn’t feel remorse…or that he is angry…I think he is trying to get across a certain point …like ‘listen to me I’ve been there…’

Yet I know he has a certain tone and it might not appeal to all…we all have speakers , apologist …evangelist that we prefer…you know ones that speak to us…I like Fr Corapi especially when he teaches catechism…

As for apologists and evangelist …I prefer Jesse Romero and Tim Staples…

🤷

To act the rake; to lead a dissolute, debauched life.

A reformed rake: someone who had their fun and finds enlightenment and proceeds to tell others forceably how to live their lives.

It happens all the time…“I’ve done drugs…I’ve slept around…and now I have the truth…and you are going to believe it or else”

IMHO…For me people like that are a turn off.
