Your loss, if you don’t read beyond the title. He’s actually very compassionate toward those with SSA. But he’s straightforward and honest.

I looked it over. The entire article is emphasizing how same-sex acts are immoral. My thread assumes this.

But I recommend you look into Eve Tushnet so as to better understand the perspective I’m coming from – which, again, is not set out to destroy church teaching.

isn’t that complicated. “Disordered” has become a derogatory label that so many people use, intentionally, to discuss this issue.
Wouldnt it be just a matter of time for the new terms to become derogatory?

I very much enjoyed your attempt at this for I think the language needs to

A - Remain completely faithful to the teachings of the church

B - Show a pastoral sensitivity that has been “ lacking”

C - Firmly acknowledge the dignity of persons who are SSA that are based on loving our neighbour, seeing Christ in them and not on the guilt we feel towards a group.

Well if you know what the Church teachings are, then accept them and stop complaining. If you go into a Catholic parish and live by your vocation to celibate chastity, you won’t have any problem with others. Bear your cross, like everyone else. Keep your sexual orientation to yourself and offer your frustrations up to God. it’s not all about you–its about Jesus Christ.
And you might look for a spiritual director.

Probably. As long as this is such a hot-button issue in the church, the church should be prepared to deal with it. That may mean revisiting language used on a regular basis. There is nothing wrong with that.

Why are you so terrified at having an open discussion without sounding like a broken record, uncharitably reciting church teaching with your hands covering your ears?

“Keep your orientation to yourself”

YOu clearly have built up anger towards the issue

Living a faithful Catholic life as a gay person requires me to abandon certain things that are often equally important to me. In other words, throughout life I have often fought back and forth between wanting to follow Christ and Church, but then, after a bit, doubting Christ and the Church because of my sexuality. For the other, quite natural, desire in me wants to have a family and be married. I want to love someone, even romantically.

So no. I will not cease to look for Catholics answers to my struggle. I’m not going to just shut up. And how dare you make me sound selfish as if it’s “all about me.”

If you do not want to attempt to understand the struggles of gay Catholics, fine. Your choice. I can simply offer the invitation to others. Again, I recommend Eve Tushnet or Wesley Hill to anyone who truly wants to better understand this whole dialogue on vocation and what gay people struggle with.

Exactly. Keep your sexual orientation to yourself. By which I mean particularly, on Sunday. In the Mass. CAF is a discussion forum. If it makes people with SSA feel better to endlessly rant about their victimhood, bully for them. I’ve heard it all before. The Catechism language is fine as is. It’s reality. Deal with it.

The OP is looking for responses that are honest and add substance to the conversation. If you find you are too angry or lazy to talk about an issue like SSA, why bother?

I honestly wonder why some people participate in these kinds of threads. Like honestly. If they think it’s a waste of time, why don’t they just ignore it?

lol “rant about their victimhood.” Just wow.

I thought my previous post was constructive, an idea which I’d never heard anyone else even discuss.

but, in this new “Catholic Forums” I am ignored as much as I was in the old “forums” website.

Compared to abortion and Catholic familes in need, the topic of Catholics with SSA and their discontents with the Church is rather insignificant. Carnal attraction should be the least of anyone’s focus.
So I’m going to practice what I preach and avoid these homosexuality threads in the future. A real waste of time and energy.

Look, the answer for you is pretty simple. If you don’t feel you are good at ministering to people with SSA… don’t . If you feel too angry about the sins of others, you probably shouldn’t write posts on the subject. If you feel all SSA individuals are using “ victim mentality and “ blaming”, you have the right to your opinion… but try to avoid posting because your condemnation of others, is clearly showing in your words.

Well, you have a right to express your own view as such, but THIS is the problem which many face and it happens to be the topic of this “thread.”

Insignificant to you… because you do not find yourself with that cross maybe? I assure you it’s not insignificant to Christ, but you can keep and hold tight to your opinion.
