Living a faithful Catholic life as a gay person requires me to abandon certain things that are often equally important to me. In other words, throughout life I have often fought back and forth between wanting to follow Christ and Church, but then, after a bit, doubting Christ and the Church because of my sexuality. For the other, quite natural, desire in me wants to have a family and be married. I want to love someone, even romantically.
So no. I will not cease to look for Catholics answers to my struggle. I’m not going to just shut up. And how dare you make me sound selfish as if it’s “all about me.”
If you do not want to attempt to understand the struggles of gay Catholics, fine. Your choice. I can simply offer the invitation to others. Again, I recommend Eve Tushnet or Wesley Hill to anyone who truly wants to better understand this whole dialogue on vocation and what gay people struggle with.
