Conceived Without Sin by Bud McFarland. I finished Spirit of the Liturgy a week or so ago so I’m taking things easy for awhile.

Awesome, awesome book! I read it while preparing for marriage and I still thumb through it OFTEN!

My other favorite on the subject is Kimberly Hahn’s Life Giving Love: Embracing God’s Beautiful Design for Marriage. Kimberly’s book is such an intimate account and it also gets into tough areas like miscarriage, infertility and stuff as well as the pure joy of embracing our sexuality the way God intends. Such a good book!!! I have read, re-read, loaned, shared and discussed this one as well!
 
I’m reading several books on Ireland and Northern Ireland. “The IRA”, “Paddy’s Lament” (about the pot. famine), and “10 Med Dead” about tne 1981 hunger strikes by the IRA members imprisoned in N. Ireland. Really cheerful stuff.
 
doing the “Bible Adventure” by Jeff Cavins read-through of the historical books of the Bible in 3 months (I’m about 1 month in… in Joshua), always the CCC (just a section or two a night), Wise Blood by Flannery O’Connor, and some book by Jane Austen is always on the bedside stand…

Wolves Of The Calla by Stephen King (the 5th in His Dark Tower series)

I know…they are miles apart from each other, but I have a very ‘catholic’ taste in books. As in universal… 😉
 
I still have the last two chapters to read in “The Good News About Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West.

Also reading “When Nothing Else Matters” by Michael Leahy. its a book about Michael Jordans years in Washington.

Today I may go to Borderes and pick up “Theology of the Body” by John Paul II
 
The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman

We’re in for a wild ride.
 
“Flying Through Midnight” by John T. Halliday

Subtitle: A pilot’s dramatic story of his secret missions over Laos during the Vietnam War.
 
Halliday’s book was great; finished it in one day; haven’t done that in a long while… Started it at around 4am and with a break finished at 11:55pm. Couldn’t put it down.

Next book is “Master Spy” by Ian Colvin - subtitle: “The Incredible Story of Admiral Wilhelm Canaris who, while Hitler’s Chief of Intelligence, was a secret ally of the British”. After doing some research on spies and cryptography recently, I got interested in both Venona and in Enigma and the German efforts. So I got four or five books on Canaris from the library. Fascinating because of the politics of the 1920’s and 1930’s in Europe. There was a lot of fear of Communism and the Germans over-reacted and fell into Hitler’s control.

Stalking the Divine

One Christmas this Cleveland writer is so bored she decides to go to church. She hasn’t been to Mass for years. She picks out a large downtown church based on ads in the local newspaper. When she gets there, she discovers the existence of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, a cloistered order so obscure the city has forgotten about them. After Christmas she keeps going to Mass, and eventually gets to know the nuns. The article she writes appears in the local newspaper and suddenly the city rediscovers its nuns. In fact if you go to their website you can still see that article today: This book tells the story of the author’s growing relationship with the small crowd of parishioners and their cloistered nuns.

OH! This book sounds terrific, I’ll definitely try to get it for my Advent reading.
Right now I’m reading SAVING GRACE by Priscilla Cummings.
It’s about a child during the Depression who is evicted (with her family) from her apartment and who goes to stay at a Mission Home and then with a very nice family around Christmas.
It’s a kid’s book but don’t let that deter you, my sister and I love to read and we’re not choosy about the age level targeted by the author, at times, we figure that we’re too young for some books (71 and 60)
