Just finished “How To Make Friends With Demons” by Graham Joyce.
Joyce is a pretty good storyteller and an above average writer. His portrayal of demons is certainly not a traditional one. Ultimately its somewhat disappointing as the “demons” he describes in his story are merely representations of our own weaknesses and have nothing to do with spirituality in a real sense.
Its a pretty good read, however, anyone picking it up looking for anything more than entertainment will be disappointed.

A Short History of the World by H.G. Wells

God bless
What do you think of it from a Catholic point of view?
I read it many years ago before I was any kind of Christian, so I don’t know what I would think of it now. G.K. Chesterton was said to have written The Everlasting Man as a sort of response to Wells’ book.

I’m reading The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett.
The story takes place in the Middle Ages.
So far I have only read 50 pages.
Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed that book, and thought it was very well-written.
I liked it so much that I read the next one, World Without End,but was disappointed. WWE seemed very anti-Catholic; all of the clergy and religious are horrible characters. I don’t know what happened to change the author in the years between when he wrote the first book and the second book, but the second one is very depressing.

But enjoy The Pillars!

Currently reading ‘When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit’ by Judith Kerr. Very good book, and almost finished with it.
I have my fingers crossed that I get ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ for christmas. I’ve been wanting to read that book forever (Jane Austen + Zombies= Genius!).
Did you get that book for Christmas?

By the time I read what others are reading, I forgot to say what I am reading.🙂

I am almost finished with Helena by Evelyn Waugh. It is about the mother of King Constantine, the empress who found The True Cross. It is one of the most different novels I’ve come across.

Also reading my first G.K. Chesterton books: Common Sense 101 and The Everlasting Man. Both wonderful, but the second one is heavy going for me. Every few pages, my brain glazes over. 😉

I just started The Golem’s Eye, part two of Jonathan Stroud’s Bartimaeus Trilogy

Did you get that book for Christmas?
Yes! Along with many other books;)
It’s going to be the next book I read. I got the last Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, from my mom and am almost done with it (read 500+ pages in 2 days, man some books are addicting:P)

Just finished Mike Huckabee’s book, A Simple Christmas. My husband got it for me for Christmas…and, not knowing this, I got it for HIM for Christmas, too! It was a quick read, but very enjoyable.

I really like him.

“Island of the World” by Michael O’Brien.

I’m about 80% done with the lengthy book. The main character, Josip, has gone through some unbelievable suffering and how he copes with this is very inspiring.

Just finished Fire and Ice by Erin Hunter. Now I’m going to start Cornelia Funke’s The Thief Lord.

Reading many at one time as usual 🙂

my old Nancy Drew books, Huckleberry Finn, M Angelica, Little House books, Camus and Osho

oh and Dr Zhivago but I am not crazy about so far
