spent the week with my daughter, who collects kiddie lit, re-read all the Shoes books by Noel Streatfield. Ballet Shoes always my favorite. Reading Conspiracy Theory by Jane Haddam (mystery) and Authenticity by Thomas Dubay, because somebody in a forum had a question about discernment.
If you read only one book this year, read Time Management for Catholics, from Sophia Institute Press, by David Durand. He has the cure for your spiritual doldrums as well as setting priorities and keeping them. He also has a great bibliography.
our Benedictine Oblate group is reading the Gospel of Life as this year’s book. I agree with my brother, I could read nothing but JP2 the rest of my life, along with the daily lectionary readings, and need nothing else.

ah, I wish I had time for more recreational reading, but I’m a grad student so instead I’m reading “An Essay on Free Will” by Peter vanInwagen and “The Significance of Free Will” by Robert Kane, plus several articles commenting on both books. It is very interesting, challenging material and I’ll have written a paper analyzing it all by the end of the month.

I second that recommendation. I saw him speak and he was a graet speaker. The book is really what motivated me to start making daily Mass.
Also reading, a Louis deWohl biography of St. Augustine, the Fr. Joe book, Miracle Detectives and The Last Juror by John Grisham.
I just finished A Miracle for St. Cecilia’s and I thought it was adorable. Light reading, but really fun.

Letters To Gabriel, Karen Santorum, and A Philadelphia Catholic in King James Court…
I read De-coding Da Vinci before I visited my sister this summer. It was definitely worth reading since I could carry on conversations debunking things she believed without actually having to read the Da Vinci Code.
Letters to Gabriel…absolutely tore my heart in two and I cried the entire way through it. We had a daughter stillborn full-term so for me the letters were raw emotion. Even without our painful experience, the book is very much a tear jerker. Have your tissues ready.
My children have read Philadelphia Catholic in King James Court (I haven’t), and they enjoyed it.
As for me, I am reading Theology of the Body Explained by Christopher West. The Crucible and a lot of short stories (for my oldest son’s literature class). Courageous Women (for a study group) I try to daily read In Conversation with God and/or the Magnificat. In a couple of weeks I will be starting Mere Christianity to do with one of my other sons. And for me, when I finish Theology of the Body Explained, I want to start I Believe in Love.
A few other favorites are My Other Self, The Blessed Eucharist: Our Greatest Treasure, and Way of Divine Love.

I just finished reading “He Leadeth Me” by Fr. Walter Ciszek, S.J. It is a true story about his imprisonment in Communist Russia and how he learned to completely place his trust in God’s providence.
Now I am reading “The Unmasking of Oscar Wilde,” by Joseph Pearce. This famous playwright, poet, and dandy ran from the Catholic Church his entire life, until his deathbed.

I HATED that book!

Right now I am reading Catholicism and Fundamentalism, the Handbook for Today’s Catholic and The How To Book of the Mass. On a different note, I just got finished reading The Good Earth by Pearl Buck. It won the Pulitzer in 1935. It is about pre-revolutionary China. Though it is sad at times, it is a good read. Very enlightening as to the nature of humanity in those days.

im reading Anna Karennina. EXCELLENT book. its a little slow in the beginning but be patient with it. im also reading “the lambs supper” by Scott Hahn, and Thirsting for God, a collection of Mother Theresa’s personal prayers, meditations and diaries. its INCREDIBLE! i have a short attention span so im usually reading two or three books at a time. also LADIES if you want a good laugh and a light read i HIGHLY recommend Confessions of a Drama Queen i cant think of the author but the whole book is HILARIOUS! i also am a 21 year old Harry Potter addict, and am anxiously awaiting the new one!
