I’ll send you a Catholic Bible. It’s not a new one, but you can have it. Contact me.
Amen S_Corda, I still have my NIV from Protestant days and the only thing I use it for now is the concordance in the back- way too biased in notes and yes- translation.

For myself, I am currently *very slowly *reading the New Jerusalem Bible, Book of Kings. This is part of an attempt to read the whole Bible cover-to-cover. I’m a reader by nature but I’ve been surprised by how long its taking me. Helpful comments most welcome.

On the somewhat lighter side, I’m reading Leo Rudloff’s 1941, Everyman’s Theology (an excellent Catechetical refresher)
The Sword of the Prophet, by Trifkovic
Quo Vadis, by Sienkiewicz

As a brief aside, I would like here to express my thanks to God for Ignatius Press.

–The Clash of Orthodoxies, by George Weigel
–Triumph, by H.W. Crocker III
–Magazines: This Rock, Envoy, Crisis, First Things
–The Structure of the Cosmos, by Brian Greene
–Vietnam, the Necessary War, by Michael Lind

The last two have nothing to do with spirituality, but I like to keep up on science and politics too.

Has anybody read a book from Henri Nouwen?
On this link you can click on his books.
I am reading now The return of the Prodigal son.

I finished In The Name of Jesus a few weeks ago, it was really good, and I plan on reading more from Nouwen. It really made me think about the things I do and whether or not they are done in the name of Jesus?:hmmm:

I’m down to just 2 books right now, Boilerplate Rhino by can’t remember (science & nature essays) & Kindling by Neville Shute.

Hello Jim,

Are there two books by the same title or are you reading Robert George’s book. I’d like to know as I am deeply interested in the topic (if its the same).

Swear to God - By Scott Hahn
Travel Guide to Heaven - By Anthony DeStefano

Next one on my list is Neil Cavuto’s
More than Money: True Stories of people who learned life’s lesson

Salvation Is From The Jews by Roy H. Schoeman. I am half way through it and HIGHLY recommend it! Mr. Schoeman converted from Judaism to Catholicism a number of years ago, and speaks with great authority. He says the Catholic Church is post Messianic Judaism and is the fulfillment of Judaism and Christianity. He says the most anti-semetic thing to do is not to share the gospel with the Jews. According to Mr. Schoeman, the greatest stumbling block to Jews not converting to Catholicism is we Catholics are not praying for them ENOUGH!

It is one of my favourite writers, when I start a book I can´t seem to put it down. And yes I too make reflections on my life when reading.

Sorry, I got my George’s mixed up. Clash of Orthodoxies is by Robert George. I must of had George Weigel on my mind while typing! (It must be a sign that I’m supposed to go out and buy The Courage To Be Catholic.)

Biblically: The Gospel of Luke and the Book of the prophet Isaiah.
Extrabiblically, but still religious: St. Augustine’s Confessions and St. Thomas Aquinas’s “Summa Theologica”. (Sometimes it’s good to review the basics!) Also, the Liturgy of the Hours daily…
Just for fun: Umberto Eco’s “Island of the Day Before” and Washington Irving’s “The Sketch Book” and “The Alhambra”.

One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, by Kenneth D. Whitehead.

A Father Who Keeps His Promises, by Scott Hahn

Medugorje, the Message by Wyane Weible

Letters to a Young Catholic, George Weigel

Under the Banner of Heaven, Jon Krakauer - this is a fascinating book about Fundamentalist Mormons who practice polygamy to this day in Arizona and Utah. These people take girls as young as 13 and 14 and “marry” them to older men as “spiritual” wives. It is child abuse and rape practiced right under the noses of state officials.
Because it is practiced in the name of religion, the state is afraid to go after them. They can afford these huge families, because the extra wives and children a man has beyond his legal wife qualifiy for welfare. Appalling. These people part of a cult, pure and simple. An eye-opening book.

Ah, this is a cool topic. I might as well share … and now that I’m thinking about it, I’m actually reading quite a few books at the moment.

*Let Freedom Ring *by Sean Hannity
*The Divine Comedy *by Dante
*Stranger in a Strange Land *by Robert A. Heinlein
*The Imitation of Christ *by Thomas à Kempis
I’m also working on reading the entire Bible … it’ll be my first time through. Right now I’m on Deuteronomy. I guess I’m also reading What Every Driver Must Know by … the State of Michigan? Gotta’ get my permit!

I just finished *The Screwtape Letters *by C.S. Lewis, as well. I definitely recommend it!
