There have been more than just popes who are given the gift of healing to include raising the dead
Hi

I think not even Lazarus was raised from the dead, he was cured from the near-dead, as there were no qualified physicians to see if he was clinically dead. So with all probabiltiy he was cured from the near-dead.

Thanks

wasnt he wrapped up in a tomb? I think it was several days, 4 days I think. No one stays near dead that long.

Remember Jesus didnt go to Lazarus straight away, He waited.
When Jesus arrived they had Lazarus in a tomb and were morning him. This is when Jesus wept for His friend.

🙂

Pope John Paul II’s example was live up by his Christian virtues. I recall a old saying, “Actions speak louder than words.” With Pope John Paul II, he did just that.
plus he wore Bono’s sunglasses and gave Bono a rosary, which he did wear all the time.

😃

Good actions for both of them on many levels.

Hi

Lazarus was not the only person, in my opinion, whom people thought he was dead, as there were no proper physicians who could determine if he was dead or near-dead.

There are many instances people took a person to grave wrapped in the coffin of course to bury him or to light him as per the custom, all of a sudden the man got cured from his illnes to the happiness or horror of the onlookers.

Peace

Thanks

I know all Christians whether, Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant want Christianity unity.

To All Christians,

While there is no doubt in the future that Jesus desire us to be One Church just as he prayed for, I believe unity will begin with the re-unification of the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. The time which none of us will know. I do believe it will happen before Jesus Christ return.

When I look deeply at the Vaticans attempts to reconcil with Christian churches which develop out of the Protestantism in the 1515-1530, I do see a different approach to unity.

Pope Benedict XVI made some points he made with his diologue with the Menonites:

For Baptists delegation whom he meet he wrote this letter:

I noticed a zeal and commit of the Pope to develop reconciliation rather than unity towards Protestant Churches as in One Church approached towards Eastern Orthodox.

So the question remains, how does the Vatican with the Pope’s leadership approach unity concerning Protestants? Is it recognization of certain truths which the Catholic Church teaches, or seek a common theology view on salvation. I know this does go deep.

This thread is different from all the Thread I wrote about Protestants.
Yes I think we need to define “unity” and what it can mean to an indiviual or group or organization.

It could mean similar to a partnership with a goal or objectives in mind. In this instance we are in union with both benefitting and nither doing an injustice to the other.

It could mean like a choral union, I was a member of but did not become a “friend” which means you actually join for all letters etc. In this unity we sang the same and agreed to meet no bother about what religion and had the purpose of joining in song and voice for a period until the concert was over, by the way we didn’t get because of the ice storms we have had.

It could mean a marriage each one giving 100% and looking to make the other blessed. This should be till death unless the other brakes it.

As in the above it could mean a contract as the constitution was agreed on by the signers, this they considered the great “union”.
But it could be broken.

It could mean a brotherhood or sisterhood and the unity could be “blood” relatives or adopted.

Jesus said where 2 or 3 or more are gathered and He must have know how hard it was to get that many to agreee and be united.

Your’s is an example of the partial truth.

This can be true but just for your info if you donate organs you will not be completely dead when they take them, you can’t be because they would not have oxygen and non usable. A person can be in a coma but still not revivable and there is a point of no return on how far a person can come back, believe me doctors have tried everything to get them to come back. There is an instrument called a doplar stethescope, and you can hear even the faintest of heartbeat with it. When I worked in a nursing home I told a nurse that I thought that patient was passed on but she told me take it here and listen very quietly if I could hear even the faintest of beat she was still alive. I listened and could hear it, but it only beat about once every ten seconds and only her chest was warm. I listened and listened waiting for that beat until the nurse came in, she probably was wondering what I was at. I said I’m waiting and she said it may take a longer time so to just leave her alone, and I wondered what she must have been thinking lieing there all alone.
If Jesus had revived her it would have been a miracle because the body can not revive itself because there is a point of no return and when organs shut down they don’t get enough oxygen, so consider that Jesus was crying because Lazurus was on his way to heaven and maybe that is why Jesus was crying to bring him back, Jesus is our oxygen to our soul. I hope this helps in the understanding, you can’t use this excuse to say Jesus voice did not bring Lazurus back but it was more than His voice it was the Holy Spirit living in Him.

He was dead period. Scripture made that pretty clear.

The issue of resurrection is not meant for this thread. If you want to discuss this make a new thread. I do not wish this thread to be derailed, my Muslim friend.

I’d like to think that Christian unity means inclusion, not just as one in Christ but the body as one in the Church and we have to have the same language, more so of meaning and understanding.

Example we all come from the egg but we are not all chicken eggs.🙂 😛
It has taken me a while but I have learned to like the Greek language a bit.

He was fully wrapped and buried. If he was merely unconscious beforehand, then he would have suffocated in the wrappings. He was already decomposing. (The women complained of the stench, and warned Jesus not to go near the tomb.)

not after 4 days! and if he was wrapped that long without food and water not moving. When Jesus called for him to come out Lazarus would have had to hear Jesus, get up and walk out.

Why didnt he do that earlier? He did it when Jesus called him.

what you speak of didnt happen in this situation.

🙂

Sorry Manny I wont speak anymore of this on this thread :o

you mean Bono? 😃 we still have him.

and the legacy of John Paul.

ps

I luv Bono and U2 because they have always stood for unity.
I grow up in the PJPII generation, and I think most of us have. I believe we carry his legacy.

Greetings and peace be with you all,

I read the thread title again and it says ‘what does unity mean to you’ I believe that unity starts from within and I already have that sense of unity with Christians of other denominations that I come into contact with.

Unity is within the community and I already work and feel at one with the other Christian Churches in my town. On occasions I have shared communion with them.

I am a Catholic and I do not have that same sense of oneness with Catholics living a thousand miles away because I do not directly share things with them or know them. Yes I can go into their church and take communion there if I am on holiday, but community to me would mean moving to that town and being an active member in some way.

I do not have that same sense of unity with Christians living a thousand miles away simply because I do not have that same sense of sharing directly with them.

I have a greater sense of joy when sharing with people different to myself.

In the spirit of praying for greater unity and interfaith friendship

Eric
