Says you, you can tell my parents if I should die of heat stroke. No ma’am not going to happen. If you judge a man for not wearing a shirt exercising or labouring outdoors as not being a genttleman, you are wrong. You have absolutely no idea whom these men are and you pass judement on them?
You are much more likely to suffer heat stroke if you strip off your shirt! And get skin cancer too!!

Wearing a shirt exercising or laboring outdoors will not cause heat stroke! You need to have a light-weight, light colored, covering - such as a white or pastel colored shirt or thin T-shirt. And SPF30 or more sunblock on exposed parts (arms, neck, etc.) and a head covering that will shade your eyes, ears and the back of your neck. And, drink plenty of water. This will protect you from heat stroke. Taking your shirt off will just result in sun-damaged skin, the possibility of skin cancer and, yes, heat stroke!

Wear a tankini. It’s like a cross between a bikini and a one-piece. My sister wears them and they look modest. They also make you look slimmer. Well my sister did anyway…

^ Btw, no that is not my sister (but my sis is very pretty) 😃

I’m not a fan of miniskirts, if I see a girl wearing one I often write her off as a slut (I know, judging too quick). Skirts look best either just above, or just below the knees. Long skirts look great aswell.

what do u consider modest? are minnie skirts to short? how low should a top be? are bikinis ok? im always getting in arguments with my mom on this suject and wanted to see what the rest of you guys thought.

I like to follow these guidelines and will pass this on to my daughter when it applies:
sexrespect.com/modesty.html
**“Pure Style” Fashion Show
****Clothing Guidelines

REMEMBER: This is NOT just a Fashion Show, and we are not just simply fashion models, we are ROLE MODELS!

-our goal is to show the public that it is possible to be stylish, cute, and MODEST!
-all styles should flatter your figure, but not draw extreme attention to any certain area

**Shirts: **-the neck line should be no lower than 4 fingers below collar bone
  • no very thin or sheer material
-may not be tight in the bust area
  • should not allow the shape of bra to be seen in the back (if you can it’s too tight)
-can not be spandex or very tight shirts
  • the backs should be modest" i.e.: no strappy backs, halter or missing backs!
**Pants: **-should not be too tight" especially in the seat or the thigh area
-should fit well, but not be skin-tight" one should be able to pull them away from the leg
-shorts should be modest- no very short and/or tight shorts; if you put your arms down straight at the side" and the bottom of the shorts is higher than your longest finger, then the shorts are too short.
(Remember" we will be on an elevated runway" and everything will look a bit shorter to the audience. )

**Skirts and Dresses: **-can not be very tight fitting (follow shirt guidelines)
-should not have too thin of material and if needed a slip should be worn.
-can be no shorter that 4 fingers above the top of the kneecap
-**Dresses only: **-must have a modest neck line (no lower than 4 fingers below collar bone )
-no thin straps (such as spaghetti straps)
if necessary a dress with straps two fingers wide may be worn, if the whole dress is very modest and no bra straps can be showing, but must be worn!

I would like to add one rule to the above list. No bra straps should be visible to the casual observer. What is wrong with women today? I am not talking about a bra strap accidently being exposed. This is a case of just tackiness. I see so many shirts with spaghetti straps that the women don’t bother to care that their bra straps show. I’ve even seen women with backless shirts in which the back of thier bras are plainly visible. Come on. Either don’t wear the outfits in which your bras show or buy a strapless bra.

As a 20 year old male, modestly dressed women are much easier to approach and more highly thought of.

Hi Longshanks1011,

Modesty, to me (a young man), is the covering of most cleavage, all midriffs, and the thighs to just above the knees. Shoulders don’t seem to be any problem as long as the rest of the upper torso is properly concealed. Bikinis = too revealing (for my tastes anyway). Although you probably don’t want to hear this, listen to your mother’s advice because gentlemanly and chilvarous guys, like me (I hope), don’t care to see that much of the opposite gender’s body in a public setting. When one is in one’s own home around one’s immediate family, the circumstances change; thus, people can possibly wear much less. However, in public, people need to respect themselves and show a respect for others by not throwing in others faces their various attributes. T-shirts and pants seem very appropriate, as well, as long as they are not skin tight. These are my thoughts and I hope they help you.

Sincerely, GWofVA

Any thing that doesn’t cause my brother/sister to stumble.

I am in a position to report that it is the unanimous opinion of those of us who have reached retirement age–including and especially the men–that current fashions including crop tops, plunging necklines, tight low rider jeans with thick belts worn over thongs, skin tight tops and high slit skirts are, shall we say, definitely NOT flattering to 90% of young ladies who wear them.
Change that to “99%”, and I’ll agree! And that goes double when the garment is two sizes too small.

As for swimsuits, I prefer this style:

I gave up “trying not to look”… The other day she (my wife) pulled quite a stunt. She said Candice, the (young attractive) girl upstairs had somehow gotten locked out of her apartment, and was in her bikini… trying to climb from the top of her car onto her balcony. Not only that, but Julie said she helped her climb up! This was NOT some information I needed to know, and I immediately protested, “where was I?..”

Sometimes guys just have to gawk at what’s offered, even if it does have a bit of a role. Depending on what attitude we want to feign, we might say, “maybe she should have laid off on a few of them Twinkies,” or “at least she’s trying to show us something – I’ll give her credit for that.”

All this, of course, from some morbidly obese dudes twice her age.
Longshanks, If this isn’t enough to make you understand where your mother is coming from in asking you to dress more modestly, not much else will.

longshanks1011, I think you would get along nicely with my brother (15) who made some interesting observations at last week’s mixer (sponsored by one of the jesuit high schools). Yeah, there were definitely future MILF shirts in attendence as well as a**busting skirts but for the most part, the girls were okay because they learned respect for themselves and really, what clothes fit the best.

As a big sister, I can tell you that it’s hard working with your mom and if you’re the oldest, you’re outta luck. But things change as you get older. I’ll be the first to admit I wear tanktops and my bra straps show when I hit up a jazz club but I’m not bearing my tummy. And yeah, a little thong slippage may occur but not like I’m riding my jeans that low. I’m a large-chested gal but athletic so whatever fits my shoulders and waist is going to pull tight across my chest and really I like the look. If some guy wants to claim that it’s my fault he got aroused, I’ll tell him to put it back in his pants. But I choose to wear clothes that accentuate my hips and thighs because I’m proud of my muscles (I’m a cyclist).

Mini skirts are so last season so get over those. Knee length and calf are hot and leave more to the imagination–pair 'em with a tall pair of boots and you have a smart fall look. If you have a 6pack and want to flaunt it tastefully, you go girl! Those aren’t the things that make you appear slutty. But if you’re 15, 16, 17, it’s hard, I know. Too much eye makeup, not enough cheek–we all have heard those comments. I went to an all-girls catholic high school and wore a uniform M-F and was bursting by the time I could wear my own clothes Friday night. It’s hard to find an outfit that Mom will approve of considering the likes of Abercrombie, Gap, and Express but it’s doable. If you wear things that fit and are flattering, you won’t come off slutty even if you show a little skin or boost up that cleavage. If you want to flaunt your curves and do it with taste, it’s possible if find what lines flatter you the most. As far as makeup, when you’re younger, use colors that are naturally light and glow. The smokey look is soon to depart and you can say goodbye to the excess of liquid eyeliner.

If you do things with taste, you’re not “being immoral.” Find a middle ground b/w you and Mom and see if you have a cool aunt or cousin that you can take shopping with the 2 of you. Good luck!!

I agree no bra straps…and I’m not old, I’m in my thirties (barely). I also dislike seeing peoples underwear or lack thereof esp in the case of plumbers and janitors. And why expose your midrif if the fats hangs out - yuck.

Now that I can elaborate let me.

If you dress like a slut you’ll be treated like one. Guys don’t want sluts as girlfriends. Sluts will act like sluts behind their back. They seek sluts if they want them to act like sluts for a one night stand or an easy lay.

If you dress respectfully guys will see that and look to you as 1. you have more sense, 2. you understand the dynamics of male-female relationships better, 3. you won’t cheat on them becasue you’re not a slut (or at least you don’t advertise that you are)

Nice girls I know who dress respectfully have to beat guys off them with a stick (please do it nicely.) Girls that dress sluttily have to troll for drunk guys at bars.

I’m not saying wear a burka or anything, just understand how guys think and what motivates them. It will pay off.

LOL. Yes, but I posted it for Cynic who said the high neck and shorts of the previous post was still too revealing. My point was that there are ways of blending in with normal youthful society without dressing in something like this:

Good job of picking value out of my posts, I say.

Thank you for emphasizing this point. Somewhere in my verbosity I hoped it would come through. 👍

On the lighter side – sometimes when I stop at a gas station or something and see an attractive woman, it’s more fun, instead of looking at her, to look around at the men instead and watch them catch glimpses while pretending not to look! 😛 It can really be pretty fascinating. Why do I watch at all? Because I’m fascinated in but often confused by human behavior and hope that soon I will become comfortable enough around other people to get a real job again.

Alan

thanx for all of you advice guys!!! 👍 it was really helpfull.

I am not wrong. I have a different opinion than you do. And you certainly are entitled to your own opinion as I am to mine. If you are at Andrews AFB, there are probably military standards of decorum–though you may not follow them if you are a family member. Men without shirts are vulgar and coarse, to many of us “of a certain age” (as we euphemistically say). You WILL not die of heat stroke, INDEED you will protect yourself from over-exposure to the sun if you wear a loose-fitting, cotton t-shirt. Do airmen at Andrews run without t-shirts? I don’t think so.

Finally, I also think it is the height of immodesty for women to run in “sports bras”. They too should wear a loose-fitting, cotton, modest t-shirt. I certainly hope there is none of that at Andrews. And if you have a fitness center at Andrews, I’ll bet there is a rule that everyone must wear shirts with sleeves. Am I right? Thought so. Isn’t Andrews where all the big-wigs and muckety-much government types fly in? I guess you are dressed (rather than half-naked) when you have reason to run across them.

Note: I see from your profile that you are either an airman (or worse yet, perhaps an officer:bigyikes: ) and not a family member, as I might have guessed from your comment about your parents’ reaction to heatstroke. Good heavens, if you are a 30 year old AF officer, you should know standards of taste and decency in the military!)

Longshanks1011 I saw this today and thought of your thread. A young lady about 14 was dreesed up in bright colors wearing a small top to expose the stomach and cleavage also was wearing low riding jeans that were unbuttoned and unzipped to show off her underwear  . I can only hope there was a reason and that this is not a new trend. That I can say is not modest…
