What do think about Gloria Polo's testimony

I have read the testimony and am rereading it.
When I read it, I remembered a book that I read (approved) on the accounts of the Saints about Purgatory. It also reminded me of some of the details of the children of Fatima. If anything, reading it has helped me realize that God judges used based on a different standard than we do. It also reminded me of some personal experiences that I have had as I returned to the Catholic Faith.

She is right when she says that we end up in Eternity with the father that we chose. Since by their fruits you shall know them…the soul is laid bare of its masks and sin is shown for what it is. I found the description of the book of Life and how we see our lives again, with our choices, our intentions and how our sins affected others very enlightening as to how sin always affects others.

St. Faustina says that the greatest attribute of God is Mercy. I think that Justice is an extension of that Mercy. I don’t think that as creatures we have any right to say what the limits of God’s Mercy/Justice are. We are always biased by our own sins but we do know that God never contradicts himself.

We need to ask for Wisdom to see things as God sees them.
Lucy Of Fatima^s original account of 1917 did not mention hell in the original notes of the priest who interviewed her. What you read is a claim of lucy in the late 30s/early 40s.So different & changed was her claims by then,it was called Fatima 2. As far as Gloria goes, are you telling me after being burned by lightening your gonna remember all things in detail much latter ? How much pain killing drugs, anesthesia for operations etc did she take that could of caused hallucinations & dreams ? who would remember anything after your brain got fried ?

OK, I think you’re stretching.
  1. The story said the farmer was praying for her soul. Doesn’t say why. You inserted your “why”
  2. there was only one story about someone rising from the dead, and that was Lazarus. Jesus did that one to teach an important lesson, which was public revelation. This story is private revelation and it already contradicts the Catholic faith.
  3. How many saints had a similar “second chance” where they died in mortal sin and then came back? Zero. I heard of one protestant preacher who claimed to have went to hell and came back, but that was protestantism (heresy). This does not sound anything like how God rolls.
  4. The story clearly said that Jesus had judged her to be in Mortal sin. The particular judgment was complete.
You asked for (name removed by moderator)ut, not a debate. I gave my (name removed by moderator)ut, and you’re debating.
There were three people raised from the dead by Christ - the widow of Naim’s son and Jairus’ daughter as well as Lazarus.

Not to mention Elijah in the OT also raising a widow’s son from death, and a dead body being thrown into the tomb either of Elijah or Elisha and coming back to life merely because it touched the prophet’s bones.

Hallo
I have read G.Polo’s testimony several times. I just accepted it, without questioning whether it has actually been approved as authentic “revelation” by the Church.
Hers is not the only case where a “dead” person came back to life; there are many accounts of NDEs in the world today which leave doctors and scientists mystified.
In these cases, I don’t think the person was clinically dead, only that their heart stopped beating for awhile. But all this time, she was in God’s hands - and with God, NOTHING is impossible!!!
And here is where the grace and mercy of God come in.
In a world where atheism abounds, where God is no longer accepted as Creator, where life after death is scorned and laughed at, our God sees the urgent need to reveal to the masses that there IS life after death, there IS a final judgement, that Heaven and Hell DO exist.
Even if there are some minor doctrinal errors contained in this account (due to human error), I do not doubt that her experience is authentic.
The fact that she “passed” from hell to Heaven does not make her testimony unauthentic. She is not trying to teach anyone that people in Hell can go to Heaven just by praying. Hell is permament, and she said this too. I think God permitted her to see both these places so that she could tell others about the reality of their existence.

I think her description of being “tested” on the 10 Commandments is very important, JUST BECAUSE the 10 Commandments are ignored by so many people today - even by Christians. There are so many little things we do which we justify and tell ourselves “it is not sin”, when in reality it is.
Her testimony made very clear the seriousness of many sins that people commit every day, serious particularly for those of us who call ourselves Catholics!
Another very important detail is her admission to being a “dietetic Catholic”, and how much this sort of attitude offends God. It made me also rethink my behaviour!! How many lukewarm Christians/Catholics there are out there… !!! Such testimony can help to “wake people up”.
A final thought: if this experience did not come from God (as some people think) then Gloria would not be encouraging people to take the sacrements such as Holy Communion and Confession more seriously. She also encourages people to pray for others, even those that they do not know, those who are in danger. This is also what many of our Saints did: they prayed for countless souls that they did not know personally, and their prayers were fruitful.
I am no theologian, but I think that this testimony can be very helpful to those who seek the truth.
It is impossible for a person who got her brain fried by lightning, followed by trauma, medication drugs, pain killers that all can cause hallucination to recall many months or years latter a story that is akin to viewing a baseball game yesterday. We don’t even know if hell exists since there is no agreed upon list of dogmas & the Church when it was one in the first 1,000 years didn’t address the issue.Medieval theology doesn’t account for much these days.As far as a dietic catholic goes, thats a unintelligle term. The Catholic Church changes,it doesn’t teach now that burning heretics at the stake is Gods will or condemn democracy or hold unbaptized children go to hell or sex in marriage is tainted with sin. When the brain goes wacky, hallucinations can take place.God knows how much damage was done psychologically to this person.

It was Elisha’s tomb.

Elijah never had a tomb. He went into Heaven alive!

Her story is similar in character to the confessions of St. Augustine. The story is a very sincere examination of conscience where this woman greatly laments the evil she has done in her life and how much more she could and should have done.

I have no reason to doubt that Christ played an integral role in her having such a great examination of conscious filled with new revelations about herself.

I also note how in the story there isn’t any sort of “new revelation” from God. No messages about the world, changes in beliefs, new directives, or anything that contradicts Church teaching or Church authority (which fraudulant experiences generally do).

Therefore I see no reason personally to not accept what this woman is saying. It is similar to the story of the Priest who died and faced judgement before Christ as well, but through the intervention of Mary was given a chance at reformation. ( youtube.com/watch?v=9VFE8ToVatI ).

Anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable or is skeptical about such accounts is under no obligation to pay any attention to them. But when they do not contradict Church teachings and the story teller is being obedient to the Church they can be great sources of inspiration.

The Church is the People Of God,not the pope & curia.
As far as Gloria goes, she claims that after she allegedly died she saw Mary prostate before the eucharist which was being offered for her cousin who died with her at that same time. How in the world could a Mass be said for her deceased cousin minutes or a half hour at most after he died ?
How could she remember after being electrocuted,in trauma, going thru medications & anesthesia all these things in such detail months or years latter ? Something is not right with the brain(damaged ? by that tragedy), why release a book 20 or more years after the fact,What gives ?

First of all The Church is the People AND the pope and curia. But the “Pope and curia” possess all of the God given authority and are who needs to be listened to.

Beyond that what she is describing is a spiritual experience, not an experience she had in her body, so the state of her body at the time at most argues against it simply being a dream (although it doesn’t even quite do that).

The second edition of the book came out 15 years after the experience, but the story seems to have been circulating much earlier than that. I have run across old articles that describe the story as an “oldie but goodie.”

Most importantly of all though, is none of that has anything to do with what an outstanding examination of consience and earnest confession her story is (where its beauty lies).

“After such being struck & burned by lightening, with the amount of drugs, pain killers, aneisthesia for operations, etc who knows what kind of dreams, hallucinations she had on account of what the aftermath entailed”

If God told you to tell a story a million times, don’t you think he’d give you the ability to remember the details? 🙂

“It is impossible for a person who got her brain fried by lightning, followed by trauma, medication drugs, pain killers that all can cause hallucination to recall many months or years latter a story that is akin to viewing a baseball game yesterday.”

Matthew 19:26

“We don’t even know if hell exists…”

Not true at all. Hell exists, and this is dogmatic teaching. Read your Catechism.

“The Catholic Church changes,it doesn’t teach now that burning heretics at the stake is Gods will or condemn democracy or hold unbaptized children go to hell or sex in marriage is tainted with sin.”

None of those things were ever doctrinal teaching…

"As far as Gloria goes, she claims that after she allegedly died she saw Mary prostate before the eucharist which was being offered for her cousin who died with her at that same time. How in the world could a Mass be said for her deceased cousin minutes or a half hour at most after he died ?:

Remember Heaven is outside of time and space. There is no reason that the Mass that was seen had to be happening right at that “moment” according to Earth’s time.

“How could she remember after being electrocuted,in trauma, going thru medications & anesthesia all these things in such detail months or years latter ?”

Again, Matthew 19:26. Read your bible. Read your Catechism.

There are no agreed upon list of Dogmas. When Hans Kung asked for one,the Vatican was silent. The Catholic/Lutheran dialogue of 1978 with catholic officials also acknowledged no agreed upon list. Some scripyure is allegorical & not to be interpreted literally.Catholicism does not interpret the bible fundamentally. As far as Pollo goes,it seems she ripped a page out of a old catechism or medeval theology book & then applied it to whatever mental state of affairs she encountered in her Trauma

I wouldn’t say ot’s right out of a medieval catechism. There are parts traditionalists would say is too lenient on non-Christians or mortal sinners, such as their getting a last second kind of chance to see Christ and repent without being Catholic. After all, there’s the classic teaching that outside the Church there is no salvation–period. Generally, it’s probably true, but God can intervene salvifically. We should never presume it’ll happen, but rarely.

I never knew anyone else knew of this woman’s story.

I heard it years ago, when my mom found a copy of it left in a pew. She thought that we should read it, even though it hadn’t been approved. Innocent until proven guilty, was kind of the mindset I think she had. It could be true, and it doesn’t hurt to hear someone out.

But, I have very mixed feelings about the story.

As a girl of maybe sixteen, this story horrified me. My mom cried while reading it, and I was uncomfortable and scared. I think it’s because I am a scrupulous, which I didn’t know at the time. Though it is no one’s fault, I think hearing this story, and seeing how strongly it affected my mother, just made me so upset. I think my scrupulosity got worse after that, at least for a time. I was worried. Maybe I thought I was a little lax with my faith too, and I was scared of Hell. Not to say that that kind of fear is bad, or that we shouldn’t monitor our faith practices every so often. Because I think it’s good do a sort of check-up on yourself. But I just remember feeling sick while listening to it.

Since then, I’ve honestly tried not to think about it.

Maybe I was too young to understand her story. And I did learn things from it. I don’t know if it’s true or not. I don’t even really know how I feel about it.

What do you mean no salvation outside of the church ? The Eastern orthodox are every bit Catholic as we are.were 'roman" catholic, the eastern churches are catholic too in the 1st millenium, where councils, bishops of the East played more of a role ironing out doctrine than the pope. There was no such thing as papal primacy then. The second Vatican Council aclnowledged salvation outside the church,God only saves. Back to the medeval books for you

After reading dozens and dozens of NDEs I started to read hers.

After reading her story and listening to her in Spanish I came back to the Church.

Not only I came back after 20 years but also many members of my family as well.

Some claim it’s hallucinations, I highly doubt it. She died twice and it was two complete different stories for each time she died. Her brain was not fried. It was her lungs, breast, and uterus. The ray had come via the underlining of her bra and traveled to her IUD copper wire in her uterus.

A pro-abortion person of the worst kind (almost condoning infanticide), feminist pushing for women to get divorce or use their husbands, a materialistic atheist who then believed in reincarnation, fooled around with the occult, paid for young girl’s contraception and abortions, had an abortion herself, a staunch anti-catholic, a blasphemer, an anti-clergy person such as this woman doesn’t change overnight… unless she had a legitimate mystical experience.

After reading dozens and dozens of NDE’s this was by far the most real.

And the fact is that she doesn’t say anything new that we, as Catholics, should not know. But it is the fact that she experienced it and lived through it that makes it so impacting. The fact that she was going to be dammed. She even cried out “I am dammed” and there was nothing she could do. Christ told her that she had to come here and tell her story so others could be saved. Only then she could be saved.

A thousand times a thousand she was told.

When she & her cousin died, she claims a priest was saying mass regarding her cousins death with the Virgin mary kneeling before it.How could a mass be said immediately within the short time of her cousin^s death ? Mary kneels at the mass ? with thousands of Masses being said a day,I guess she^s always kneeling. Her Brain was fried, her nervous system which effects the brain was also fried… With pain kiiling drugs(which are often hallucinative),what she claims is halllucination.

You are free to believe this and we should always admit that its possible you are correct.

I personally feel that its far more likely her experience was real and substantial. The coincidence of her literally dying while admittedly in a state of mortal sinfullness should not be strange to believe she would have been condemned if not given more time on earth to convert and give her testimony as a form of penance and desire for others to avoid her foolishness.

She previously had no faith and abused the Lord’s Sacrament! Now she gives testimony to the immeasurable love which emminates from Him! I say amen. And I am one who questions Fatima as truly from heaven! Though, I dont say it is not. Only that I dont see so much in common with the Gospel through Fatima.

You probably didn’t understand her testimony.
And there absolutely nothing rare or wrong with Mary kneeling down at Mass.
She knelt down at the cross of her son, so why would she kneel down in front of the tabernacle?

You know ask her doctors because her brain was not fried.
The lightning entered via her bra and traveled to her IUD which was made out of copper.

Mary^s in heaven, she need not kneel to any mass (which is non existent in heaven). As far as the brain goes, your crazy if you dont think that experience didnt effect her brain. Not to mention the pain killer drugs she had to be on that create hallucination

Im not sure what your concept of Mass is coming from, but it is taught that Mass is the Communion of heaven and earth. Heaven is opened to us and in the prayer/worship of the Mass, we share in the Liturgy of Heaven. The Lord is being glorified constantly in heaven and so we partake in this adoration. Mary and the Saints are never outside of worshipping Jesus. Heaven is eternity feeding us in time the benefits of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is not very sound faith to seperate Mary from the Mass.

We could also argue that Jesus was hallucinating when tempted in the wilderness. He was fasting to the point where without the supernatural nurishment of God, would likely not survived.

Do you really believe Gloria was faithless, then through hallucinations of only her own mind had a deep conversion which inspired her to live faithfully to Jesus, while confessing all her wrong doings?

People having a bad experience & finding God is not unusual. This does not validate however,a claim from Gloria.
Are you saying people hear mass & recieve the sacraments in heaven ?

The Eucharist is a meal, people gather around it in the early church community to offer thanks to God & to remember to imitate Christ who became man for our sake.

Are you saying the sacrifice is not celebrated in Heaven?

Here is a good video that explains how in Revelations one can see the mass…
