There is currently over 7 billion people on the planet.

What do we do when there is too many people on the planet?
This is honestly the one of the greatest and best arguments for revising Catholic views on BC.

But to answer the question; nothing. We’re already there for a lot of the places on the globe.

When the next world-wide pandemic or crisis occurs that disrupts the enormous logistical chains required to keep this many people alive, the bodies will stack as high as houses in many, many places.

Until then, don’t worry about it. 😅

Over 7 billion people just eating the planet alive. It’s like a horror film.

We move on and colonize our Solar System. It’s humanity’s destiny to fill the cosmos. 😃

Because of 1.) the baby booms, 2.) the fact that nuclear weapons ended large-scale war and 3.) medicine is more available than ever, our population has exploded.

Roughly 5% of ALL people who have ever lived are alive right now.

Simple, we convince half of them to take a vow of celibacy and become monks, nuns and priests. Problem solved 🙂

Rationally, that’s what we’ve gotta do.

Colonizing the moon should be a priority for the survival of our species. Perfect the technologies required so we may continue our virus-like spread 😅

It’s super hard to solve.

Even if you were able to get folks to volunteer to not reproduce, we’d still have an infrastructure capable of supporting 7 billion people being supported by, I dunno, half that?

You’d have to resettle people or you have the “Detroit Problem” of having fewer people impossibly trying to pay for an infrastructure that was designed to support way more.

I was just kidding and offering a bit of a “Catholic” solution.

For real?

Well we’d all have to decrease our living standards but I may be mistaken, this Swedish statistician said that our population will peak somewhere at like 12 billion and then start decreasing. Space is not the problem. Clean food, water, air, transport those are gonna be the issue but I guess we could solve them with more advanced technology. We all just need to live simpler lives if resources are really gonna be enough without having poverty though.

But can that really happen under capitalism?

While that sounds like a lot of people, much of the planetis uninhabited. With improvements in food production and distribution, we could double the population and not make a dent in the empty space on this world. With enough power (energy) we could solve polution and garbage.

Having said that there is much to be said for the post about a pandemic or catastophic infrastructure failure. Right now,we have all of humanity on one planet around a mildly variable star. As Robert Heinlien said, “Earth is too fragile a basket for humanity to keep all its eggs in.”

We need to colonize the universe and we have had the technology to start doing so since July 20, 1969. One of the things I regret in life is that I did not get a chance to go to space.

The Lord will provide.

What if Jesus comes back in a month or something like that? We can’t revise infallible teaching to do with Catholic morals just because it seems more practical. If there’s 20 quatrillion people in the world we need to trust God to take care of them all and we believe he will; ain’t nothing traditionalist or irrational about that.

Yeah, there’s a reason for that.

As societies move toward being more developed, they start using BC more.

Cool. Let’s all start living on fewer cars and iPhones, eat less food, use more renewables, have fewer luxuries. Resources will become sufficient for everybody just like that; finger snap. Ah, I’m in a good mood today 🙂

This means some form of sterilization or BC. Just from a rational perspective.
Sin is never rational. Ever. It is never allowable, and birth control is sin because it desecrates God’s intention for sex. Sin never changes. What is evil now will always be evil, no matter what the circumstances are. Like I said, and I will not recant, the ends do not justify the means.
Cool. When you come up with another way to get folks to not have kids besides “No sex, ever!”, let me know. Seriously.

I’m for it!

Sure. It was, essentially, capitalism that westernized the new world.

Instead of big companies, you had monarchs. But the idea is the same. Big rich entity sends out colonial “feelers” and when they find something valuable - in comes the fleet!
