What do women like and dislike in a man and how do you tell if a girl is interested in you?

For me, it would be someone who is empathetic, kindhearted, responsible, and has a good sense of humor.

A gentle talker, someone who laughs easily, and is honest with a good character. Someone who sees the good in all things and people, and is intelligent, who thinks before they speak. Also someone who enjoys different fun things, is not afraid to help others, but also quietly strong and confident too.

Also well groomed and goodlooking, who dresses well, but not too much, jeans are fine, but have to fit. Sounds superficial, I know-sorry.

When I was dating my husband, we had a lot of contact, and lunch dates. So I would say that if a woman or girl gives up some friend or weekend time to be with you, she is interested.

Ps: I forgot to add- someone a bit mysterious too.

What I don’t like is someone who likes attention, is loud, is lazy, who would not help an older person or anyone, self absorbed, and negative.

I am not female, but being a criminal lawyer by education makes me an expert on human nature.
Sure. I’m just here to get some insight into the female psyche, since I think I’m going on a movie date with a girl I know soon.
Great! Watch. Listen. Learn. Actually listen to her. But offer meaningful feedback, not just monosyllables, and don’t force her to carry the burden of a burdensome conversation. It’s also possible to suggest subjects (so that she doesn’t have to be coming up with them – you’re the initiator, the host, after all) but still allow her to do most of the talking.
So again, what do you like and dislike in men?
Every woman is different. For some commonalities, as a rule, they will usually like a man who is manly. This means not effeminate, capable of taking charge (which does not mean forcing his way with it), protective, nor does it hurt to have the external appearance of a manly man (although both the standards and the importance of this varies across cultures, social strata, personality types and individual characteristics). A sense of humour helps with all people, not just women, but social graces are optional. For a future-minded responsible Catholic girl you’d better be dependable and capable of reliably providing for a family (not necessarily on your own income alone). And the better Catholic you are, the better. It makes her life easier if you can admit your mistakes and aren’t in love with yourself (a manageable ego).

As a rule, what is disliked is when a man is controlling or creepy. And creepy is an undefined notion basically similar to ‘slime’ and usually involving some sort of obsession. It would be creepy to think that all women like the same type of man, for example. 😛 You gotta realise that she isn’t all of them. They all don’t really matter, she does. You probably know this already, but just to be sure (and just to remind you anyway).
Also ladies, how can we man say when a girl is interested in us?
A woman who is interested in you will either get out of her way to spend time with you, earn your approval or show you her own approval, make sure that you’re comfortable in all sorts of way, perhaps show you to mum or friends. She may become shy or self-conscious or uncertain or nervous, especially if she has a high opinion of you and wouldn’t like to ‘ruin it’ by making a bad impression on you. A woman interested in you may also be interested in securing some sort of commitment from you, so you might actually end up being asked to declare your intentions with regard to her (or make up your mind), especially after several meetings between the two of you.

I could give you some body language tips, but you’d be better off reading a book written by someone competent, along with all the caveats against jumping to conclusions. First of all don’t overanalyse it and don’t presume too much. Body language isn’t as simple as politician pulled his ear when talking = he was lying to his electorate. Don’t sweat small things. And you’re probably better off listening to her and investing yourself in the conversation than trying to work her out. 😉

And try to have a good time.

(For the record, you also need to find out whether you are interested in her, not only the other way round.)

(I suggest showing her to the things you like to do and places you like to go and seeing if she likes them (no need to hold yourself back much), while learning about the things she likes to do and places she likes to go. You can actually cut down on the usual pleasantries and ice-breaking. Talking doesn’t need to be done at a coffee table.)

So I would say that if a woman or girl gives up some friend or weekend time to be with you, she is interested.
🙂

Yes. On the other hand, if you end up getting declined or cancelled a lot, especially for no particularly good reasons and leading to the two of you not spending much time together, then she likely isn’t all that into you.

Women crave security and they often will be attracted to a man with a good job who can support a family. Many men today have neglected to plan for their futures in regard to this aspect of marriage and then they can’t understand why women are not interested in them.
Women don’t like lazy or weak men. Also be well dressed and well groomed. Be kind and a gentleman and considerate. Most of all attend church and live out your Catholic faith.

As far as telling if a girl is interested in you, she will tell you if she is.
Not always, some of us are painfully shy - there’s a guy I really really like, I won’t let myself fall in love with him because I don’t know if he feel the same way, but I can’t bring myself to tell him because I don’t want to make him feel bad if he feels differently.

I think a grown man can take that, Louise. Perhaps you might want to tell him you’ll understand if he doesn’t share your feelings. But it’ll be hard on you rather.

I can’t really say seeing as I’ve never dated anyone but if a girl were to tell me that she’s interested in me whilst I’m not really interested I could do one of two things: either tell her in some nice, gentle way that I’m not interested or give her a chance by going on a date with her. If we find out that we really click there is a chance we would end up being a couple. If I reject her, it wouldn’t be out of spite but because I would not feel our relationship would work. It’s the same with women; if a guy approaches a girl and she rejects him he has no right to go in a huff and be wrathful all his life.

If you like a guy Lou, go for it and tell him if he’s doing anything interesting in the following week and frankly ask him out. At least that’s what I’ve heard people say that you shouldn’t tell a person you love them immediately but should find a way to spend time with them. Thats my 2 cents, I don’tknow if this advice is actually good because as I said, I never dated before or ever was in a relationship.

In my opinion, it is not right for a girl to come right out and say she likes a guy. Perhaps it is the time I was raised. It is fine for her to flirt and see if there is a reaction, but putting herself on the line is embarrassing. And a guy, unfortunately, sounds like a jerk if he says he is not interested. So a girl puts a guy in a bad position if she is too forward.

But at the same time, it’s nice if she makes it known she’s not interested. (I asked a girl out recently, and got the “Not looking for a relationship right now” response)

I think under traditional rules you can still ask not, ‘may it be said?’ but rather, ‘how to say it?’. Some ‘its’ may be harder than most to say, of course.

OK, so this thread is just for fun mostly but as a guy I ask, what do you ladies like and dislike in a man? On my own I see so many men who have girlfriends but treat them like **** behind their back, are too lazy to work and treat others as if they are below them.

So again, what do you like and dislike in men? Also ladies, how can we man say when a girl is interested in us?
I’ll answers your question:

Honesty, regard, respect, love, humor, love of the outdoors, likes being active…

This is only me though other women look for other things but I can guess almost everyone will want somone who has a solid christian faith, is honest, and respectful of others and not self obsorbed.

How a women want to be treated specifically such as wether to bring her flowers or hold the door open those are details you should just ask. Most women will let you know right away what they like or don’t

Most women don’t like men with odors…mean or abusive guys, guys who don’t keep themselves clean or don’t have goals. Some women will put up with these things but most won’t.

Women view relationships as security men view them as being tied down at least in my experience. I think the old saying that women give sex for love and men give love for sex has some truth to it as well but you can’t really pin people down to generalities.

If you like a lady smile at her. Ask her about herself, make light conversation. If you like what you hear ask her out. If she runs then you know it’s not mean to be.

Sorry, I wouldn’t like to intrude myself on your post, Luvz2travel, but there’s one thought I’d like to share with the OP in this connection, with your permission – don’t adjust too much. If it’s just something you hope the woman likes doing, then sure, adjust it all the way. But you need to remain yourself and find someone who likes you for what you are. Whether that’s a flower-giving chair-pulling slick guy or a solid strong workman who has no use of the social game. Plus, women don’t really like men who adapt to them too much, anyway (it can be mistaken for weakness even when it’s empathy/humility).

Everyone is different. As a women I can say we all like respect now if the guy come on too strong or too heavy of course that not good. We don’t want a guy falling all over himself that would appear desperate at the same time we do look for a guy that listens to what we say and who is thoughtful of that. Say she mentions she likes a certain author you could give her a book by that author. Good luck.

Each of you has a different balance for that, though.

It’s a complicated situation or else I might tell him…

How to know if a woman likes you…I just skimmed this. It comes complete with funny and cute illustrations!

The funny (or less so) thing is that many signs fitting the same description can be signs of unease, revulsion, whatever. Probably because it’s unease and anxiety either way.

Oh, and this:
Be aware that some girls have no idea that they’re flirting. In this case, she probably likes you a great deal since her subconscious is letting her body language do the talking.
No guarantee, actually. Alas, subconscious stuff like that’s easier to read than conscious choices people make.
Check for random hugs, reserved mostly for you. Hugs can be a very openly and permissible affectionate way of getting closer to you and touching you without it necessarily compromising her stealthy flirting. In turn, you can go along with it if you want, or just act busy like you’re late for an appointment and need to rush off.
No guarantee, either. BTDT.

Also, it’s symptomatic how #9 labels both ‘confident’ and ‘shy and nervous’ as signs of interest. 😃

If she seems to be purposely avoiding contact with you, beyond simply being quiet in your presence, but actively avoiding any chance to talk to you, even in contexts that aren’t embarrassing (such as a group discussion), chances are she thinks you like her, and is not only not interested but is annoyed or even creeped out by your advances. It’s not personal, as girls feel threatened when a guy they aren’t interested in is attempting to court them. Due to the fact that boys are usually the drivers in a courtship, girls have difficulty ignoring unwanted advances. This is a cue to back off, and give her space.
Sigh. Once upon a time, half a lifetime ago, I did just that and was wrong. In other words, don’t give up too early, without clear signs.

Well, I think feet are a good indication. If someone likes you, their feet go in your direction. If they don’t, their feet face the door, for example.

Also, I think women often laugh and giggle a lot when they like someone, generally.

Totally agree. You can’t and shouldn’t change yourself for someone. They should like you for who you are, but what woman wouldn’t love the man who pulls open chairs and constantly gives flowers? Chivalry is very attractive. However you can change and adjust things if the relationship has potential. Compromise is always key.
