That’s a question I often listen, by some non-christians

“What do you want to do on heaven? You’ll probably get bored on the first thousand years… I’d rather have a limited life, with sense on exploring, with knowledge, than having a nosense eternal boring life”.

Why do you assume that it would be boring? Just curious. I would think that you will have plenty to occupy yourself with. Nobody said that souls vegetate away in heaven, which is rather a state of being than a place. What if you live for eternity, either in heaven or not? What will you do? It seems that you should give those questions some serious consideration. Unless of course, you really don’t want to know the answer, which I doubt since you did ask the question…

does it make me a bad person to be terrified by the idea of eternity? I just cannot get a grasp on it. I panic whenever I think of it! I don’t see how I can never, ever end…I’m scared of this, I really am. I want my life to be just the way it is, with people I love and…see, my heart is choking me now. I don’t like this idea, not at all.

Heaven is like nothing on earth. We are in the presence of God, whom St. Augustine (happy feast day!) calls “ever ancient, ever new”. Therefore, we’ll never get bored in Heaven.

There is nothing negetive or neutral about Heaven. True Joy fills the hearts of all who are there and there is no time–in the sense that we know it anyway. No one is bored there.🙂

Imagine spending the rest of your existence without the worries you currently have (such as worrying about eternity ;)), resting in the Lord who loves you unconditionally with His Son and Holy Spirit, surrounded by the Angels, and all the Saints, who love you and who you love in return! It will be infinitely better that the relationships we have here on Earth. Doesn’t sound scary to me.

I want Jesus to hold me. Then I want his Mother
And all the angels and saints to welcome me.
Then I want to be reunited with all my loved ones
And friends that have gone before me. It’s nice to
dream…:angel1::harp::hug1::heaven:

Surely that does not make you a bad person. This is a response and only you can really guage where it originates. I would dare say that you are comfortable and feeling secure here, and do not want to lose that sense of security. Or perhaps, you question where you will spend your eternity. Maybe you are attached to your earthly existence or the people in your life. You need to do the soul-searching to find out the root so that you can address it there. In the end, Christ ask that we release the attachments to this life and embrace His life within us. Matt 10:39

If you look around, you’ll note that nothing stays the same here on earth. While you may be able to predict to a degree what change is going to take place, change is inevitable. The transition to eternity is more a change of perception where you will realize what you do not see right now. Eternity is here and now, we are just in a physical state for a number decades. While in our physical states, we are engaged in a search for our spiritual selves existing in eternity. Part of the challenge is learning to see beyond our physical senses.

Hope that made sense.

I worry about it too, mostly because once I start thinking of eternity, I can’t process an eternity in heaven. I’m a scrupulous person, and some days it feels like I believe in hell a lot more strongly than I believe in heaven.

I want to finally see the full Glory of the Lord, and be reunited with my loved ones and friends.

It’s not at all unusual for people to be unable to grasp the concept of endlessness, whether it is eternity, or even mathematical infinity. That’s not surprising: We live in time and space, and all our referents are based on our orientation in time and space, whether it is physical, emotional, or intellectual.

Here is something I found very shocking when I was doing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola: To God, everything that has ever happened, or ever will happen, is present, meaning NOW. Creation of the world as we know it, all of the events of the Old Testament, the Sacrifice of Calvary, the growth of the Church, even the invention of the automobile and the internet. NOW. Recall that His Name is I AM. Not I Used to Be, or I Will Be, but I AM.

What human being, limited in time and space, could even begin to comprehend that?

And in Heaven, we get to see Him, as He IS. Mind boggling.

I don’t expect to be bored in the least. And if absolute bliss is “boring,” sign me up now!

Privately, though, I’ll tell you this: I am a retired professional ballet dancer. I danced for a world class company, the New York City Ballet, for twenty-two years.

I have a recurrent dream about Heaven. I meet Jesus. And to the strains of Tannhauser’s Overture, Jesus and I dance a demanding and athletic pas de deux across the skies. He is a wonderful dance partner. Despite the demanding choreography, I dance the best I have ever danced. I feel totally secure, totally cherished by my Partner. I dance the best I could ever imagine, and then some, totally for Him. There is no demanding practice. I somehow instinctively know this dance, as if I have always known it. And I just respond to His loving support. He brings out the best in me, the best that I didn’t even know was there.

I’ve even awakened, mid dream, and written down some of the choreography. I’ve never been able to satisfactorily execute it in real time, subject to the laws of gravity, even with a strong, well-trained, live partner.

I thought it was a little odd a couple of years ago, and while I was under spiritual direction, mentioned it to my spiritual director. He explained it to me this way: That all of our dreams aligned with the Will of God will be fulfilled. We will have no cause for struggle, nor for envy of the delights of others. In fact, other people’s happiness will only add to ours. Heaven will be absolute bliss.

Wow. Talk about dancing with the stars!

I imagine that all people who make it to Heaven, either immediately or eventually, will be so fulfilled with absolute delight in the Presence of God that no, it won’t be boring. Not at all. We will be totally absorbed in His presence. It will be simply and so totally fulfilling.

And privately, once again, I hope I do get to dance with Jesus across the skies.

Those are the thoughts of people who have no concept of eternity, God or his divine life. anything that is in God’s presence isn’t temporal, and time being a part of the fabric of this physical universe came into being at the creation of the universe, and is temporal because it will end when the last super massive black hole evaporates. Eternity has been described as the endless now, with no past or future so there are no “5000 years” in eternity.

My extremely limited understanding of what it would be like to be in the presence of God is being in the presence of the fullness, and absolute ground of existence, life, love, intellect, beauty, kindness, peace, and joy etc. Imagine being in the presence of a being who has no potential, who is pure acting power who thinks every thought that can be thought, and acts every action that can be acted without limit, restriction or end, and it all happens in that endless present moment which is eternity. God is the infinite fountain of all that is good true and beautiful, and we were intended to be united to, and one with the very life of God. God will constantly delight the ones He loves with new aspects of His infinite being forever.

1 Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”-- it will be extraordinary beyond imagination. It is because of who God is that there is no possibility of boredom. Boredom is an attribute of limited creatures such as ourselves. God has no limiting or restricting attributes. God is the antithesis of boredom.

This life is only the test. In comparison to eternity we have been given a Moment of planck time to determine how we spend eternity. The thought of being limited to exploring this test with no hope of eternal life is extraordinarily sad, and one of the worst ways I could imagine wasting the existence God has given us if it means occupying our time with activities which exclude God. I would much much rather have an unlimited amount of things to explore in eternity in union with God who is the endless fountain of life in all it’s fullness. People who have had near death experiences say that the spiritual realm in which God lives is the fullness of reality. That is where all the true action of existence is. We experience things here through a cloudy lens.

People who choose to live as their own god have condemned themselves to being with an extremely limited god who can only produce a limited amount of things to do from an extremely limited imagination within an extremely limited amount of time within which to do them. Thanks, but o thanks. I couldn’t think of a worse way to spend this test.

I totally agree with this. How come we get bored when we will get surprised by God’s secret present.
What do you wanna do on Heaven?
I want to marry a beautiful Queen and become King, then play music to my wife all day long~
(eventhough I don’t play any musical instruments now)
:harp: <— “ME”

Play softball (though I’d better get my arguing with umpires under control, when they throw you out of a game there, you’re REALLY out of the game ), hunt, and fish. 😃

I actually do write music, and can’t wait to see all the ways music can be created. While the thought of marrying a beautiful queen is wonderful, we don’t marry in heaven. But we will have a beautiful queen in our Blessed Mother who is far more Beautiful than any thing else in God’s creation. No marriage, and no sex in Heaven. Marriage, and sex are ordered towards the creation of life which only happens in the physical universe. The reality is that marriage, and sex are a prefiguring of our union with God which will be far beyond what we can experience here through marriage and sex. There it is Christ who is infinite beauty itself from whom all beauty flows who will be the groom, and we will be the bride… Kind of a hard one for a dude to grasp I know… but hey, I know what beautiful is, and God has sure placed an awful lot of it here. Here we know each other in a limited way, but there we will all know each other perfectly, and completely, and will be united as one as the body of Christ. We will have perfect union with one another. All people’s beauty will far surpass their beauty on earth, and we will all be united in a much deeper way in Heaven than could ever happen here through marriage. It’s going to be one giant endless love fest. I’m pretty sure that’s kinda sorta how it works.

But hey there’s nothing stopping you from marrying a beautiful queen here, and playing music to her all day long, but first you might want to get a guitar.

Well, it is difficult for me to imaginate how the heaven will be.

The only think i cannot understand is. How can you be so happy in the heaven if someone you love is in the hell??

You want to explore and gain knowledge.

Okay, God is infinite. Hard to wrap one’s mind around that, but if one is in the direct presence of God and unified with Him, one’s exploration and gaining of knowledge never ends, and each bit of knowledge is more interesting than the last one. One can never exhaust that resource.

Personally, I look forward to, for example, going into the center of a star and learning every last principle of physics and every mathematical calculation involved. I look forward to experience that great heat without being harmed, and to understand just how it’s generated. Are there really “branes”? If so, there’s more knowledge to be had with them alone than all the knowledge presently possessed by all the physicists on earth. And what constitutes “branes”? Are there things grander still?

God is outside time. I look forward to experiencing the dawn of the earth; the Roman Empire, the Big Bang itself and how it came to be; to go back and forth in time to see it all as it was (is?). I want to see Jesus’ life and hear those things that didn’t make it to the Gospels. I want to see the Crucifixion and the harrowing of hell. I want to see Mary’s last days and the travels of St. Paul.

A thousand years is surely not nearly enough time. Eternal life is, for those things and more.

And all the while, infinite love pours over me like morning sunlight. Always new. Always greater. Always more complex and surprising. Infinite.

Me, I like the whole thing.

What I wanna do is party like Homer and Bart Simpson do when Marge imagines them in ‘Catholic Heaven’. If Heaven is ANYTHING like that, it’ll be better than I could possibly have dreamed of.

(See eppisode “The father, son, and holy guest star”)

The only limiting factor I place on the things I want to do in Heaven is to ensure that the things I do generate greater amounts of happiness without disturbing the peace of the Kingdom.

Therefore, the possibilities are endless, hence the need for eternity!!!
