I wear the brown scapular, the Miraculous medal and the medal of the Holy Face of Jesus.

I wear a Scapular which came with a St Benedict Medal and Crucufix attached; I further attached a Miraculous Medal and fastened all with thread so they don’t fall off.

Nothing like Kevlar Body Armor for the Soul!

I had an operation one time and got into an argument with the prep staff as to whether I could wear my Scapular since it had metal attached. We compromised by padding my hand with guaze to prevent an inadvertent elctrical charge from running astray, and tapping the Scapular into my hand.

I kept waiting for someone to say, ā€˜I wear a Roman collar around my neck’ - what? No priests here?

I used to wear a green scapular - lost that walking to Santiago de Compostella…

Used to wear a Miraculous Medal…chain broke.

I do keep the finger rosary in my pocket…

Guess I gotta get with the program, but I don’t go in much for jewelry, so I’ll never be the Mr. T (or should that be Mr. M?) of this thread…

Brown Scapular with a crucifix, and miraculous medal.
Sometimes a San Damiano Crucifix.

Hi, i wear a Crucifix and a St. Christopher on a chain all 9ct gold. Just yesterday i gave my 5 yr old the same but in sterling silver. Sue.

In terms of wearing a scapular, what does it mean that one must be enrolled to wear it or am I misunderstanding something? Thank you!!:o

Always at First Holy Communions, the children are enrolled with the Brown Scapular after mass (In my parish). The priest puts the scapular around their neck and says a specific enrollment prayer. After that they are enrolled for life. At the same time he usually asks if there is anyone else who would like to be enrolled with the brown scapular, to come forward.

There is also a green scapular - this scapular is for conversion. I hand them our to friends and family, it can be worn around the neck, but most put it in their wallet or purse.

Sacramentals lead us to Sacraments - To Jesus through Mary

**"**A proper appreciation of the sacramentals rests on the realization of their place in the ecclesial plan of salvation: they are less than the Sacraments but More powerful than purely private prayer. Such an attitude removes any danger of exaggerating sacramentals at the expense of Sacraments or of overlooking their signifcant place in Christian living."

TaraLouise, being ā€œenrolledā€ means that you’ve be ā€œinvestedā€ in it (i.e., ā€œinvestitureā€). It’s not magic… it’s a sacramental. These sites might help…

Here’s PART of the description shown on this Web page:

The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Investiture

Conferral with the scapular indicates a special devotion and consecration to Mary. No one should undertake it who is not spiritual prepared to live in accordance with it.

The short form of investing or conferral consists of a priest or deacon taking a blessed scapular and while placing it over their head reciting with the person any Marian prayer (e.g. Hail Mary, Memorare, Salve Regina). The person is now invested. They don’t have any lists to join, though they are henceforth members of the Scapular Confraternity and share in its spiritual benefits (the prayers of the members). No special daily practices are obliged, though someone consecrated to Mary, of which the scapular is THE sign, should live chastity according to their state and recite the rosary daily.

I wear a scapular, miraculous medal, St. Benedict medal, 2 crucifixes, and an Our Lady of Guadalupe medal, all hidden beneath my clothing. When I am dressing for a special event, I occasionally also wear a visible necklace.

I wear a byzantine cross (my mother’s) An Agnus Dei medal
given to me from my mother, an Immaculate Conception medal, and a medic alert medal. (I have a genetic blood disorder). I never take them off. I always wear them under my tops and sweatshirts.

I was wondering what people wear around their necks. I don’t wear anything. I still have trouble getting used to wearing my wedding ring. I was never one for jewelry. Lately however I have been thinking about getting a scapula.
I think you meant a ā€œscapularā€

Before you do so, make sure you understand what you are doing. Unlike any other medal or sacramental, wearing a scapular carries with it a certain consecration and it must be impose to you by a Carmelite priest, preferably.

What exactly is a miraculous medal?
It is the medal in which we find Our Lady of Grace but most Catholics know it as the miraculous medal. Why? Simple. Once people began to wear it with devotion, many miracles occurred when the medal was popularized.

Our Lady of Grace appeared to St . Catherine Laboure in 1830, in Paris. There were three main apparitions. On the last one, which like the previous two took place in the chapel of the convent of the Daughters of Charity, Our Lady asked St. Catherine to struck a medal in her honor.
The medal has 12 stars on one side. The 12 stars are believed by some theologians to represent the Twelve Tribes of Israel. It is from one of those tribes that Our Lady came from. In the medal you’ll see the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sacred Heart of Mary. You’ll recognize the Sacred Heart of Jesus because it has a crown of thorns, while the Sacred Heart of Mary has a sword, the sword St. Simeon spoke to Mary about in the Scriptures. In the front part of the medal you’ll see Our Lady with rays emanating from her fingers. The rays represent the graces of Our Lord we receive through Mary. At the feet of Our Lady you’ll see a snake which represents the Evil one and Mary is stepping on him as a sign that she brought into the world the Savior of the world. Around the medal in an oval shape form, you’ll read this prayer, ā€œOh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.ā€

You can still go to Paris today and visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, 144 RueDuBac.

Super Mom,

Thanks for the link! Regarding apparitions, though: I’ve heard a lot lately about apparitions of the Virgin Mary. People see apparitions almost every day, it seems. How do you know which ones are genuine and which ones are the result of a desire for attention, mental illness, or drugs? For instance, last semester I read a tract by Margery Kempe, an anchoress in the 16th (?) century who recorded apparitions of Jesus and Mary. She also claimed to have had sexual relations with Jesus as well as Satan. Many Christians at the time lauded her as one who was truly blessed to have seen such visions. Today, doctors have determined that she was suffering from severe schizophrenia. In other words, to what extent can ā€œprivate revelationsā€ be trusted?

God bless,

Chris
The apparition of Our Lady of Grace to St. Catherine Laboure was approved by the Holy See. Then, we can rely in its authenticity.

I either wear a celtic cross or a metal celtic knot.

I wear them as they are a useful tool in the rememberance of God through the day.

The Brown Scapular is a small piece of the order of the Carmelite order’s habit.

See ā€œthe Catholic dictionaryā€ == www.newadvent.com

and look under ā€œSā€ for scapular.

Here’s that page:

newadvent.org/cathen/13508b.htm

It begins with:

"The scapular (from Lat., scapula, shoulder) forms a part, and now the most important part, of the habit of the monastic orders."

Description. It consists essentially of a piece of cloth about the width of the breast from one shoulder to the other (i.e. about fourteen to eighteen inches), and of such a length that it reaches not quite to the feet in front and behind. There are also shorter forms of the scapular. In the middle is the opening for the head, the scapular thus hanging down from two narrow connecting segments resting on the shoulders. Originally the longitudinal segments of cloth were connected by cross segments passing under the arms – a form which exists even today. In former times also two segments of cloth hung over the shoulders, which they covered, and thus formed a cross with the longitudinal segments over the breast and back (cf. P.L., CIII, 1231, editorial note).

…And, just as the stole is the special sign of the priestly dignity and power, the scapular is now the sign of the monk.

You can read about the small scapulars at that Web page, too.

**The small scapulars consist essentially of two quadrilateral segments of woolen cloth (about two and three-quarter inches long by two inches wide), connected with each other by two strings or bands in such a manner that, when the bands rest on the shoulders, the front segment rests before the breast, while the other hangs down an equal distance at the back…

…C. The Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Also known as the Brown Scapular, this is the best known, most celebrated, and most widespread of the small scapulars. ** Hope this helps! :twocents: ā¤ļø

When I get a new scapular I sew inside a Garabandal Medal, and St. Benedict Medal…

Me too. When I give a medal as a gift, I get it blessed too and let the receiver know it’s blessed.

I wear a silver St Therese of Lisieux medallion. I took her name at my confirmation.

I wear a rosary ring on my belt, too. St Louis de Montfort recommended wearing a rosary on one’s belt, but I couldn’t figure out a good way to do it with a regular one. The ring I can fasten on with a small chain (which he also recommends wearing.) That’s when I am in civilian clothes. When I am in uniform, I have to carry it in my shirt pocket.

I wear the miraculous medal, and the FIVE-FOLD SCAPULAR

The five-fold scapular is an approved sacramental, that combines the five most popular scapular devotions

The White Scapular of the Most Holy Trinity
The Red Scapular of the Passion
The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
The Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception of Mary
The Black Scapular of the Sorrows of Mary

There are devotions that come with each scapular, certain prayers, like the Little Office, the Seven Sorrows Rosary, the Trisagion…and a few other things.

If you would like to learn about the five-fold scapular, do an internet search on it.
