Hi Tawheedah! From the posts by Muslims on this thread, I get the idea that our beliefs on freedom are very different. Hamba brought up something very similar to yours.
What do you mean by stating that most of your “freedoms” will come in Jennah.
Hi Vickie. When I hear the word “freedom” it makes me think of jail, prison. Being free in that sense, and having “free will”. There is free will in Islam to a certain extent, because we choose whether we are going to follow the Quran and the Sunnah or if we are going to go against it. When I think of “freedom”, I think of the freedom to do as you please without consequence. Most people think that anything they do, if legal will be without consequence, but for a Muslim, there is consequence, not today, not in this dunya, but if I choose to go out and knowingliy commit sin after sin after sin after sin with no intention on ever stopping or repenting, then I will face consequences in Jennah/Paradise, the hereafter. So we choose to worship Allah 5 times a day, not to drink alcohol, not to party, not to have but 2 celebrations a year, not to dress however we want to dress… and when describing this to non-Muslims, they say “why are you putting yourself in prison”? So this is why we say, this life is like a prison for a Muslim, but this life is only but a bus stop on the way to Jennah, which will live up to its name and description, and make this life seem like it only lasted for 2 days.
If someone wants to party and so on, that’s their business. We do not have a morality police in this country, thank goodness. We would not be a free country if we did.
I agree, if someone wants to go out and do those things, it’s their business, and no one can judge them, only God can judge, and He will, oh he will…
When I think of freedom, I mean things like freedom of religion, of speech and of the press, for instance, not immoral behavior which is licentiousness, and an abuse of freedom.
The problem I see, is that Muslims seem to want to impose their will on others. They believe that their way is the only way to live, and this is not acceptable in a free society.
Vickie
Yes, we believe Islam is the truth. Yes we should call people to Islam, but NO we are not to impose it on anyone. Allah guides whom he chooses to guide, there is nothing anyone can do about that. And we honestly don’t know, none of us, who will be in Jennah. I’ve been told that when (insha Allah/god-willing) we get to Jennah, we’ll be surprised who we see in Jennah, including non-Muslims, we really don’t know who is going to be there, and it isn’t for us to say, because none of us knows for sure until we get there.
Islam is against oppression, so for Muslims to oppress anyone would be wrong, if that’s what they’re doing.
