I don’t recall ever judging anyone. Only God can judge. Not me.
In the following quote you judged ‘Most “Westerners” ‘ as disobeying ‘he laws of God’.
Most “Westerners” choose to disobey the laws of God and a lot of them disobey the laws of the government as well.
I’m not taking “popular culture as being what most ‘westerners’ do”. Nor did I say that. I am not going to continue to dialogue with you if you are going to be accusing me of saying or thinking things that I did not say or think.
No, nor did I say that.
I agree, you did not bring up popular culture. I did as I assume that is what you are referring to when you said that ‘Most “Westerners” choose to disobey the laws of God‘.
So what is it that do when they choose to disobey the laws of God according to your way of thinking?

No that’s not true. But if someone was seeking to convert to Islam, they would be open to dawah, not close minded, they’d be willing to listen to the explanations, they’d want to hear what clears up the misconceptions. You yourself said that you believe Islam is false, to each his own, but that belief makes your mind closed to anything I say to explain things to you. So in essence, I’m wasting my time trying to explain it to you. FYI, I’m not trying to convert you, I just wanted you to maybe gain an understanding…
I studied Islam for years, always using Islamic sources. When I started my study I was very open minded. I prayed often to be shown the right way. It is only after a lot of study that I have come to the belief that Islam is false. I know many people who have had the same experience. Some of them even converted to Islam and were very faithful for a long time… only to find that they had been led down the wrong road.

No, that wasn’t a judgement, sadly, it is a fact. You even said something similar yourself about people disobeying God’s laws because none of us are perfect, but when I say it I’m judging, when you say it, it’s just a statement right? I said Westerners, because I am one, and I was including myself in that statement as well, even though I strive to cut out the haram from my life… we all sin, there are just some that are more major sins according to Islam that I as a Muslim should definitely avoid. Also, I put the word “westerners” in quotes like that because you are the one that originally brought the West into this discussion, not me, possibly thinking that I was some Arab Muslim with a Visa and not a little white American Muslim.

Again I’m telling you to have a nice day, because I’m not into people putting words into my mouth that I didn’t say, which you have done more than once.

Peace

It seems that I am the Arab in this conversation…. the color of your skin and mine has no bearing on this conversation.
I am trying to understand what you are saying, not put words in your mouth. I appeared to me, perhaps in error, that you were speaking of Muslims vs. non-Muslims. Maybe I was wrong and you were taking about all people.

I was talking about ALL people, regardless of race, color, religious creed, etc…

and in reference to the link about the insulting of the Prophet, NO I don’t agree with that, nor do I think that is the majority opinion of the scholars.

Are Violent Protests Against Anti-Prophet Cartoons Acceptable?

If you follow this particular link, it says that peaceful protests are acceptable, that it is not acceptable for destroying property or acting in violence.

That’s good to read…

I did ask you about this link which you have not responded to…

islamqa.com/index.php?ref=22809&ln=eng
The ruling on one who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
The scholars are unanimously agreed that a Muslim who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) becomes a kaafir and an apostate who is to be executed. This consensus was narrated by more than one of the scholars, such as Imaam Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh, Ibn al-Mundhir, al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad, al-Khattaabi and others. Al-Saarim al-Maslool, 2/13-16

What is your take on the opinion in the above link & quote?

What I posted to you was my response to that link you posted, NO I do not agree with it, and I don’t believe that that is the majority of the scholars. Then I posted the other link for you which doesn’t exactly go along with the “execute them for mocking the prophet” theme. I never heard of that, I have a friend with a degree in Islamic Studies who also teaches that I can ask about the information on that link you gave… but I’m pretty sure that she will tell me that is not the correct madhab (opinion).

There are a few different thoughts addressed in that link…

In Islam, if a Muslim mocks the prophet, they are considered an apostate. So mandatory execution of apostates applies in this case…. This is absolutely main stream Islam. There are authentic ahadith that state this. It is Shari’ah law and has been practiced since the beginning of Islam up to today. Those Muslim countries that do not execute apostates today… Egypt, Kuwait being among them… have laws that totally destroy the lives of apostates… they loose their jobs, loose their property/assets, loose their right of inheritance from their Muslim family, their marriage(s) are annulled, they lose custody and rights to their children, etc.

Since it is Shariah law, I do believe that the majority of Islamic scholars agree that apostates must be exected.

As for the execution of those non-Muslims who mock Muhammad. Muhammad himself had many who mocked him murdered/assassinated. I believe that this is indeed mainstream Islam. The rioting might not be. The destruction of property might not be. Muhammad never called for that … .but their execution… he did order that.

By the way, I am very glad to see that you disagree with Shari’ah and the ahadith on this laws about execution of apostates. It gives one hope.

I think he took offense at your first satement about this because it sets up the west(based on Christianity as its religion) as morally inferior to the Islamic world if only because the rest of the world is being excluded from your judgement. This is a very common theme I have heard among muslims that I know. "The west is “technologically superior” but “morally inferior” to the Islamic countries. If this is not what you are talking about, please clear this up for me.

Making blanket statements about a culture is very hard because it requires such a major understanding of a culture. Even if you knew most people in one country this does not necessarily mean that all those countries sharing a cultural origin have the same habits, or lack of morals. You should distinguish to yourself what is portrayed by Hollywood and what is reality. We say all humans are guilty of Original Sin. For this, God has opened a path to forgiveness(Christ). To say that all people are guilty of sin would be correct because they all have Original Sin. To say what a society is absolutely guilty for beyond that is getting into murky waters, and also starting to delve into God’s own territory.

I am not saying that you cant judge cultures, just be sure to have some solid evidence, of which hollywood is not a good source.

If you would go read all the posts again, I’m sure I’ve said at least 3 times that I’m not the one that brought the West into this discussion, and when I said what I said, it had nothing to do with race, religion or anything else of that nature, and that it also included myself.

Has nothing to do with Hollywood, or pop culture, it’s REALITY, a reality in which I live and am also guilty of. It also had nothing to do with any Islamic contries or anyone being superior or inferior- here we are again, someone putting things into my mouth that I did not say nor do I believe.

How should I know if any Islamic country is better than the US if I have never been to one? I only speak on what I know, and I never said anything of the nature! Maybe we all should try to speak on what we know, and stop trying to put words into other peoples mouths!!! I don’t understand why I have to clear anything up for you, when what I said had nothing to do with what you implied/accused me of thinking. Maybe you should try to stop assuming and take your own advice about “making blanket statements” since you seem to think I am like “most Muslims you know” .

**All I said was that all people are guilty of committing sins (no matter what religion you follow) and no one is perfect, I didn’t say what anyone or group or nation was guilty of. But again, there you go telling me what I think and asking me to explain myself- but you’re not even right about what I think. **

I’m not a scholar, and I’m not going to pretend to be a scholar. Just refer to my post and follow the link to what the scholar says on the matter. All I know is, it is in the Quran, I’m not going to argue, I’m not into arguing. I gave you the passage in the Quran, I gave you a link for further information. It’s up to you whether you wish to give weight what I said or just be close-minded and think what you want to think. Allah knows best.
“All I know is it is in the Quran…Allah knows best.” That is among the weakest defense about anything as I have ever heard.
But I will add this, I’m not surprised that there were more women than men in hellfire, since backbiting is a sin, and I have seen many many women (even in the masjid/mosque) backbiting and bickering with each other, so it doesn’t surprise me that their mouths would land them in Hell.
Islam is institutionalized sexism among other -isms.
When you go get a degree in Quranic Studies, then maybe I’ll listen to you. Please read my signature.
Nice dodge. As far as your signature goes, it depends on which side of the line you are standing on. Your signature is apt with respect to you looking in at Catholicism isn’t it?

so its justified to kill their children and un armed ppl
Most moslems supported the Nazis, they had a real hatred of Jews anyway and the Nazis were exterminating Jews. For the moslems, this was a good thing. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was a great admirer of Adolf Hitler and was given refuge in Berlin when the British sought to arrest him. Amadhassan is just a kid with no idea of history.

I don’t need a degree in “Islamic studies” to recognise a fraud when I see one. If you gave up Christianity for mohamedanism, then you sold your birthright for a mess of pottage. But, trust me, you will not be killed for having converted. No moslem can say that. The penalty for conversion to Christianity is not death, it is LIFE in Jesus Christ.

I do not attempt to assess catholicism. As I’ve previously stated, I might not agree with your beliefs, but I do respect them. Simple as that. I’m actually interested in learning more about the concept of original sin, and the 7 dealy sins and heavenly virtues.

These sound like great topics. Why not start a new thread to discuss them?

You used to be Christian… surely you know about these things.

Ahh, you didnt bring up the west in conversation, but you were the first to cast judgement on the west:
I am a Westerner. Most “Westerners” choose to disobey the laws of God and a lot of them disobey the laws of the government as well.
This is my point of contention with you. Not that you brought up the west, but that you cast a blanket statement upon it (which was completely new to the conversation).

I did not put words into your mouth. I asked for clarification. I did not say that this is what you meant, only what I have heard before and was unclear if this is what you meant. Dont be so quick to get angry.

I never said this is what you meant. Stop saying that I did. I didn’t make blanket statements about you. Your tone is not necessary.

Why cant I ask you to explain yourself if what I understood from you was unclear?

You did not only say “all of us” are quilty of sin. You went further by saying:
“I am a Westerner. Most “Westerners” choose to disobey the laws of God and a lot of them disobey the laws of the government as well.”

This is what I wanted to know. How do you know that most westerners “choose to disobey God’s laws.” ? It is an extremely loaded claim. This is what I meant by making blanket statements.

I do not attempt to assess catholicism. As I’ve previously stated, I might not agree with your beliefs, but I do respect them. Simple as that. I’m actually interested in learning more about the concept of original sin, and the 7 dealy sins and heavenly virtues.
Your faith in itself assesses Catholicism. How do you respect an apostate faith, as Islam declares Catholicism to be?

What does your warner say about original sin? I thought everything that is needed to know is in the Quran. Why didn’t the messenger of allah explain the deadly sins and heavenly virtues so that you would not need to ask the People of the Book?

What ever you do not know and that is not in the Koran is supposed to be answered by “allah knows best” and leave the mysteries to him. You are reaching beyond what is good for you if you but know it.
Sura #61 | Madina
9 He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammed SAW) hate (it).
10 O You who believe! Shall I guide you to a commerce that will save you from a painful torment.
11 That you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know!
Verily, you are those who have disputed about that of which you have knowledge. Why do you then dispute concerning that which you have no knowledge? It is Allah Who knows, and you know not.
( سورة آل عمران , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #66)
Maybe you should ask us.
So ask of those who know the Scripture (learned men of the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)), if you know not.
( سورة النحل , An-Nahl, Chapter #16, Verse #43)
Maybe not.
O you who believe! If you obey a group of those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians), they would (indeed) render you disbelievers after you have believed!
( سورة آل عمران , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #100)
allah knows best, right?

Please excuse me for being defensive, all day I had to “explain” myself for things that I never even said, so when you came along and did the same thing, well, I’d had enough of it.

Again, if you go back and read, the only reason I even used the term “westerners” is because the other poster brought it into the conversation.

Here’s a deduction for you, since you think I’m “judging” Westerners (including myself). No human is perfect or free from sins, whether minor or major. “Westerners” are humans. Therefore, Westerners sin.

I’ve already explained this. I wasn’t judging anyone. And I’m not going to explain this a fourth time.

Peace.
