He’s saying this in anticipation and in reference to His sacrificial death which was about to occur. If we were to take it literally as you do then one must conclude that the New Covenant didn’t begin with His death on the cross but there in the upper room prior to His death. A gross error, indeed. And yet not one writer of the Gospel accounts connects John 6:51-58 with His instituting the ordinance of Communion. So you really have no Scriptural support for your interpretation. Transubstantiation is not based on Scriptural revelation but merely men’s interpretation. And a poor one at that.
Since Jesus chose to become the Passover Paschal Lamb which must be literally eaten in accordance with Jewish Law for the remission of sins, then His Last Supper Sacrifice is indeed part of His “redemptive” plan. (Ezra 6:19-21, Mark 14:12, John 1:29) Who are we to judge the “order” of His salvific plan concerning the Last Supper offering of Himself and His offering of Himself on the cross? I won’t be the one to question Him!
As for your judgment of my interpretation of Scripture and belief in transubstantiation, well, it’s just that: your judgment, which carries absolutely no weight with me or the Catholic Church.
Jesus was “born king of the Jews” (Matt. 2:2), not “king of hearts.” You don’t accept the fact of His future, literal rule on earth because you don’t believe the ancient Hebrew prophets, nor what Gabriel said to Mary:Luke 1:32-33 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."David’s throne was literal and in Jerusalem, not spiritual and in the hearts of men.The “Times of the Gentiles” is not described as a time when “the kingdom of God is within us.” But is in reference to Jerusalem’s being trodden down by Gentile armies (Lk. 21:24). This began with the Babylonian captivity and ends with the second advent of Christ when He returns as “king of Kings and Lord of lords” (Rev. 19:11 - 20:4). At this time the words Gabriel said to Mary at the Annunciation will be literally fulfilled.
Since you believe that Jesus was only born “king of the Jews,” then why are you not Jewish instead of Christian?

Guess “where” His throne is from which He reigns over the house of David forever? Jesus reigns in His heavenly Jerusalem, not the one in Israel.
Hebrews 12:22-23 “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the
heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and
church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,”
Revelation 21:9-11 “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you
the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the
holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.”
Who is this bride, the Lamb’s wife? The
Church is Christ’s bride. The new Jerusalem is His messianic kingdom which will endure forever. Christ is the bridegroom of the Church. (Luke 5:34)
Ephesians 5:22-24 “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also
Christ is head of the
church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”
Revelation 1:4-5 “John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and
from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and
the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,”
Jesus resides in heaven on His throne as ruler and king after His return to earth at His Second Coming and His creation of a new heaven and a new earth.
Revelation 21:1-3 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”
His messianic kingdom is portrayed as the New Jerusalem and it endures forever.
Revelation 22:1-3 “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.”
