What does the bible say about guns and other weapons?

Well, the US is rapidly dying of moral decay, and the constitution must first be changed to allow the government to control all aspects of human existence. However, this was the situation just after Christ’s birth, when Herod slaughtered the Holy Innocents.

Having worked with mentally and emotionally disabled persons for three decades, it is prudent to allow time for all aspects of any tragedy to be investigated and evaluated. Norway has many, if not all of all of the laws that you propose. Did not stop the slaughter there.

Has anyone considered that 20 children probably died that same day in Connecticut by abortion? No news. No mention. No public outcry. No presidential press conference. They are just as dead. This is a worldwide problem of evil. We reap what we sow.

I cannot agree. Promoting a society that all carried guns seems to be living by the gun to me. It does not address seeking a conversion of hearts to Him, who we are to live by, and seems to place something before Him, in my opinion.

Don’t we have laws against murder, robbery, rape, etc.? They don’t work 100% of the time, but we try to limit the statistics as best as we can.

While it did not stop that slaughter, how are we to know how many it did in fact stop?

Abortion is deplorable, but not on topic. Both are avenues to a loss of life. Just as people called for a lesser of two evils, we are to save as many lives as we can. Because of that, we need to approach as they are, two different topics. Putting them together could cause one, or both, issues to be dismissed by those we are trying to reach with the messages.

Abortion most certainly is germane - it is a primary component of the culture of death. Must we ask for a soviet style dictatorship before we will be satisfied? Even that does not stop “senseless” violence. Take all the guns away. Put them in the government’s hands.Will that end violence? No! Major Hassan slaughtered how many at Fort Hood?

We are suffering from the “do something disease” which may make us feel better, but brings not one child back to life, nor mends a single broken heart. Examining governmental policies toward those who display violent tendencies is an area that needs examining. As to the rest of us, fervent prayer to God is all we can do. Crisis produces bad law. Bad law creates, rather than solves problems.

Nearly 3000 people were killed Sept. 11, 2001 in New York. They were killed with the assistance of box cutters. :)😛

I really have to agree with Abortion being a part of the culture of death. Now, I also see living by the gun to be a part of the culture of death.

We don’t do nothing. We have laws against murder, robbery, rapes, etc. They have stopped any of it, and we don’t just stop. We try to find ways to lessen it, with hopes of ending it altogether.

In response, we as a Christians, accepted the controls put into place to prevent, or lessen, it from happening again by our nation. Why wouldn’t we do the same with the tragedies we see from guns?

The Church was founded by 12 men who brought two swords to the first Eucharist. And he put the guy in charge [peter] who was the only one to actually draw one and take a poke at one of the rabble.

As a caution to those who would trust in government to bring us peace, let us look to what government did to the Prince of Peace at Calvery.

Lutheran teaching follows Catholic teaching - we have a duty to protect the innocent, and for that we need tools.

Ok, so let us out law all box cutters, along with guns, every where in the world. One slight problem: We would not be able to enforce it because few Christians in the ‘Great Satan’ and even fewer Muslems in the rest of the world. would follow that law!🤷 .:D:p

Then we forget everything, because it cannot be enforced. Murders, robbery, rapes, etc. We haven’t stopped any of it 100%. :rolleyes:

What do we do about scriptures that tell us to obey our governments?

First, those of us who possess weapons do not live by them. We use them for the moral purpose of defending life (CCC 2263-2267). Placing further, or onerous conditions upon this will result in more evil done, not less. The Connecticut tragedy has everything to do with aberrant individuals whose hearts are bent upon murder. Cain used no firearm to slay Abel. Ted Bundy used no firearm to kill as many as 100 young women. Gary Ridgeway used no firearm to kill perhaps 100 women. The list goes back through the millennia to Cain and Abel.

If you think this is a gun problem, just Google “mass stabbing”

We are addressing the spiritual problem of evil.

We must pray to the Prince of Peace.

Are you saying that we have the RIGHT to tell people in the Middle East and China that they cannot have, not just guns, but box cutters?:D:p
