What Happened to Fr. John Corapi?

You are right that he may well still be a practicing Catholic, and this is his claim. I think it was posted in non-Catholic religions because the OP is not a Catholic. I have run into many non-Catholics here who think this is the only place they are allowed to post.

I see your point about leaving because he thought what he had to say was more important than his identity as a priest. I just can’t accept that, though.

In leaving he DID disobey his superior, his bishop, and his promises to the Church. The reason these promises are there is to hold people close to the bosom of the Church when they get some wild idea that what they have to say is more important. We must always be willing to obey, even if our superiors are wrong. God will triumph without our egos.
I never said that I agreed with all of his reasoning, but I do believe that was his personal motivation. I also believe that he should have stayed and obeyed his superiors, just like many Saints of the Church have done in the past when they were censured without cause. I think it shows humility and would have been a much better example to show to the world that he was willing to follow the rules, even if they were wrong. Either way, he needs all of our prayers to go forward from here. 😦

‎"An open letter to the Catholic media:

**In the 22 days since the release of the July 5, 2011 letter from Fr Gerrard Sheehan of SOLT -the Catholic media, including hundreds of internet news and bloggers, television and radio, have reported the various accusations against Father John Corapi as irrefutably true. Without a trial or the presentation of evidence, these Catholic media sources have pronounced guilt upon Father Corapi, without even the faitntest presumption of innocense. Neither have these media sources once questioned the motives or the validity of the accusers charges against Father Corapi. **

**In that time we have not seen one credible shred of evidence against Father John Corapi to validate the charges against him. In fact, we have not even seen one piece of incredible evidence against Father Corapi and yet we are supposed to believe some rather incredible things. **

We are to believe that previously:

Apart from a possible single DUI offense 12 years ago (which incurred a 7 day probationary penalty), that in 20 years of public ministry, Father Corapi was never seen publically in an intoxicated state.

**That in 20 years no one has come forward as a witness to either seeing Father Corapi use illegal or abuse legal drugs, as having done drugs with Father Corapi, or sold illegal drugs to or purchased illegal drugs for Father Corapi’s use. **

That in 20 years no one has come forward as a witness to Father Corapi having either solicited prostitutes or escort services either under his own name or under an alias.

**That in 20 years no one has come forward as a witness to Father Corapi engaging in improper sacramental practices either in public or private celebration of the Eucharist or through the use of his priestly faculties. **

**That in 20 years no one has come forward as having been someone with whom Father Corapi has had willing or unwilling sexual relations with or cohabitated with romantically. **

That in the space of 20 days a nameless investigative trio determined beyond all reasonable doubt that Father John Corapi is guilty of all the above offenses.

The Catholic media has not shown either through reports of witnesses or first hand witness that Father John Corapi was ever unable to perform his public ministry either due to the effects of drunkeness or drug abuse.

The Catholic media has not shown either through witness accounts or physical or circumstantial evidence (ex. credit card statements, financial records, photographs, recordings, videos) that Father Corapi ever procured or solicited prostitutes or sex related services through an escort service.

The Catholic media has not shown that Father John Corapi ever in any way engaged in improper sacramental practices, either by breaking the seal of the confessional, illicit or invalid consecration, profaning of the Eucharist, unauthorized ordinations, imporper use of priestly faculties, etc.

The Catholic media has not shown how SOLT’s nameless investigative trio acquired evidence, gathered testimony, provided the names of witnesses, nor have they provided the names of the investigators themselves or the principal accusers in the case Tamra Sexton or Matt Sprinkle.

This assassination attempt upon the character and reputation of Father John Corapi has been a case of journalistic malpractice of the hightest order. It is unjust, it is immoral and it is unconscionable. Retractions need to be made and apologies issued and follow up stories created immediately.

**The various commentaries, conversations, conjecture and conspiracy theories confirming Father Corapi’s guilt and the reasons for his every public action have been breathtaking in their scope and presumptiousness. Scandalously, the purveyors of this inane tabloid babble have the audacity to call themselves American or worse yet, Catholic and Christian. **

**Instead of the intellectual arson that has been carried out upon Father John Corapi’s reputation and the minds of the Catholic faithful " **

Thank you…Thank you…Thank you! Although I was not able to say it so perfectly, this is what I carry in my heart concerning Fr. Corapi. As practicing Catholics we should expect no less from ourselves but to believe in Father unless otherwise PROVEN! If he ever would be found guilty by admission, we should give nothing less than prayers and support for our fallen brother. Treating him as we ourselves would want to be treated. This is what Jesus asks of us.

Thank you again for publishing this fair and honest account of fathers plight.

👍 I’m so glad! hope to see you back in the fight soon, Fr. Corapi!

Pray and fast…he ain’t done. God will turn to good all the sins committed against him…🙂

We are no more obligated to believe Corapi any more than we are obligated to believe SOLT. We also should not judge others. This is for God.

There are certainly enough questions for a Catholic to use very cautious judgement in taking sides or trusting the material that will be produced by Corapi. There is a wealth of reliable information both in print and in video that one does not need to get involved in this.

I dont see any indication that the status of Father Corapi has changed. Either by his choice or that of SOLT.

His fb and website are virtual ghost town on the internet to be honest. 🤷

Really???
He hasnt been keeping in contact. Nor the people at his media company.

I have seen nothing of credible movement that anything is being resolved.

There are his followers there posting some, but it really is pretty deserted.

Perhaps you have found something of solid information that things are changing?

Ah…Ok… 🙂

The FB page just looks pretty deserted from my perspective.

So is there movement that things are going to be resolved? Or has he decided he really is just going to go it alone without the Church? ( A sincere question on my part)
🙂

Shoshana,
This is interesting. Who wrote it? I see from your link it goes back to Aug?

I think he has “moved on.” If you go look at The Black Sheepdog website now, it’s been redesigned and he’s blogging regularly, he has a store, etc.

Someone is updating his FB page regularly too, but it’s not him, because the status refers to “John,” in 3rd person.

He’s living the life he wants to live. At least he’s still doing ministry (abortion) and not selling real estate or Harley parts or something.

I truly do not know who wrote it…it was Fr corapi’s site…that site has been improved by becoming private. The old thread were taken away. The website are from people who quite negative toward post-vatican church (I do not take their stand)…but the article itself is written in such a commonsensical way, that i had to share it. Even if it was written in July-August…the statement still stand on its own. Just sharing

Let us pray…

Not really…he hasn’t posted for a month…i would not call that regularly…

that site is moderated by scm…and is public…but one cannot start subjects of their own volition…he does read it though…one must be very cautious for a very good reason…

He’s living the life he wants to live. At least he’s still doing ministry (abortion) and not selling real estate or Harley parts or something.

and what makes you think he is living the life he wants to live? because he did not obey…the picture is muich bigger…

I say that he is living the life he wants to live because he chose it. There were other options but he did not take any of them. He chose to become The Black Sheepdog so he must want that life, at least on some level.

Oh, and p.s. I thought his blog said “October 30” but I see it is September 30. So a month out of date.

I will continue to pray for him.

the sites have become private …
This is very interesting. Wonder why that might be?

John 3:20-21

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
…and we pray hard…👍
That is good. It sure seems like the only thing that might help in this grave travesty.

and what makes you think he is living the life he wants to live? because he did not obey…the picture is muich bigger…
I think that because he has always pretty much done whatever he wanted, however he liked. He seemed pretty pleased with himself that he set up a lucrative business and made lots of money. When he was summoned to return to his community and reside there, he refused. He did this for many years before the request became an order, then he quit, so he could keep his lifestyle.

He thought what he had to say was more important than his promises to God and the Church, so he walked away from his priestly service to prevent being “silenced”.

How is the picture “bigger” because he did not obey?
