What happens if everyone converts to Judaism?

According to most Christian sects, the Jews “cut a deal” with God that lets them do their own thing, indifferent to the religiosity of the rest of the world. If you’re a Jew, Jesus doesn’t matter, you’ve already got an “in” with God.

Although Judaism is chiefly a racial religion - Israel, for instance, exists to preserve Jewish racial purity, letting in even atheist Jews but placing great immigration barriers to anyone not of Jewish descent - it is possible to convert. The Jews don’t encourage this and don’t proselytize, but it does happen.

Presumably, then, a convert Jew gets “in on the deal” with God, and thus can dump Jesus.

So, what if for some reason (something in the water, who knows) everybody decides to convert to Judaism? Seriously, one could simply look at both religions and decide which one is less of a hassle, and one might well decide Judaism is. If everyone so essays the matter, what does that imply for Christianity?

That would be great if everyone converted to Judaism, because the Catholic Church is Judaism in its fullness. Modern “Judaism” is a religion of apostates.

That sort of nonsense may be believed by dispensationalist fundamentalists, but not by Catholics.

Catholicism is obligatory on everyone for salvation. There is no “parallel path” especially not on racial grounds.

Modern “Judaism” is all apostates (though most clearly ignorant, and some I respect) and Israel is a rascist state. But aren’t all nationalisms? That’s why I don’t like nationalism in general, though Zionism in particular because it is such a holy land.

I don’t think we want to start following the Kosher rules and not eating pork anytime soon so I wouldn’t worry about that happening.

You’re still stuck with waiting for a Messiah, and you cannot escape the fact of Jesus’ claims. So nothing is new…

Your premise is incorrect.
Presumably, then, a convert Jew gets “in on the deal” with God, and thus can dump Jesus.
And therefore your conclusion is flawed.

Why would you want to convert when (if you are Catholic) are co-heirs to the Kingdom of God? We are Co-Heirs because we accepted God’s son and the Jews rejected God’s son.

:dancing: I would look funny with curly locks descending from my temples. OH yeah…I can’t grow a beard very well…:tiphat:

Oh, that’s all fine and dandy!.. but the part I fear the most is … you know… the circumcision 😃 I guess it hurts more when you’re past your 30’s 😃

Ouch !

More to the point, why would you think that rejecting Jesus Christ after entering into his baptism you would get into heaven on what you believe to be a legal loophole? If a Catholic converts to Judaism, he is still Catholic, the baptism doesn’t go away. So he/she is breaking their baptismal promises.

In other words, “converts to Judaism” is a meaningless concept, because it doesn’t involve actually becoming a Jew who’s got that nice Jesus-free afterlife contract with God?

It becomes at lot easier to find a good bagel. 😉

Aw, man! I knew there was bound to be at least ONE witty response.
There were more than that.

Thanks for making my day… 👍

Now I must ask forgiveness for finding the humor in such stereotypical one-liners.
I know we’re not supposed to encourage that kind of stuff…but old habits die hard. Mea culpa.

seriously, though, just not possible.

Everyone converting would have to include the Pope and that’s an impossibility since Jesus promised His Church would remain until He comes again.

Then, as that other poster duly noted, for us Catholics, going back on our covenant - after having had the Truth of Jesus Christ revealed to us - has dire consequences. I suspect even the ‘back door’ promise to the Chosen People could not protect our souls from God’s disappointment and judgement.

Think about it…converting to take the easier route (which actually happens on a broader scale when Catholics switch to Protestant denominations) may appease our limited minds and delude us into thinking God will still be pleased with us - but Jesus made it very clear the path is narrow…it just isn’t as simple as switching sides.

I love and respect the Jews , but it seems that some Christian movements almost idolize them.

According to some Biblical commentaries, and even simply communicating with Evangelicals You can hear that :
You have to praise, honor, and fear not only God alone, but his nation - the Jews.

Watching the acts of Fundamentalists, how they despise the Spiritual and Symbolic in the Prophesies, and how they praise materialistic and dominant understanding , some times I think that Evangelicalism is new form of Judaism.

It will go the other way, Jews will convert in Mass to the Catholic faith, then the end comes.

Christians and especially Catholics who convert, IMO, are apostates and would not be saved.

As for Jews in general, IMO, I don’t think that near as many will finally be saved as many people seem to think.

I am thinking that not many of us have a solid knowledge of Observant Judaism. In my opinion it would be far more difficult then being a Catholic: even a good Catholic. Back in the 30’s my mother cooked for a well to do Jewish family. Roast beef every Friday night and she couldn’t even sample it…
