Hi Apryl,
Go read it for yourself, Ruth, Mother of David’s father Jesse found and met Boaz, gathering the gleanings of his wheat, left behind for the widows as required under the Law. Book of Ruth, Chapter 2,
commentary:
“Please, let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain” : **Leviticus 19:9-10 **commanded farmers in Israel that they should not completely harvest their fields. **They were commanded/**U] to “cut corners” in harvesting, and always leave some behind. Also, if they happened to drop a bundle of grain, they were commanded to leave it on the ground and to not pick it up.
We are not under the Law, we are under Grace…we know what we can give, God knows our hearts… if we give less than we are able, well then we’ll have to deal with that @ the Judgement seat
Then you oughtn’t call it tithing, Is there a limit to what you can give? The poor give less, the rich could give more, no even the Jews today call it tithing, they sell by bidding for them in the synagogue.
We freely support the Church through our donations…
Obviously you know nothing about what tithing was, Find me anywhere in Acts or the Epistles, where the Christians are required to tithe?
you really ought to check out the subject before you speak on the subject.
the 10 % number comes out of the Protestant faiths!
Read Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy Scripture is open to interpretation through the Teaching Authority. For catholics it is the Magisterium, in the Old Testament( Hebrew Scriptures) It was the Law interpreted through those given and recognized as the authority!
In Judaism nor Catholicism there is no such thing as private interpretation of the Bible… there is no such thing (accept on rare occasions) as private revelation.
Tithing is a biblical term under the Law, Paul asked for collections for the laborers, and the poor.
God bless,
John
John,
Although I certainly agree that the old law has been thrown out, well most of it not the ten commandments, I would say the most people interpret this to mean don’t give diddly.
I am a protestant convert and I know what they give. I also now know what the Catholics give as I am the auditor for ALL of the denominations on my base.
I can tell you that more Catholics go to church, but they give FAR, Far, far, less. In any event it would be nice if people would give more.
In protestant churches 10% seems to be the minimum…or at least a target. Do you know any Catholics that give close to 10%. I honestly do not know a single one.
God Bless.
