Are there many Catholics that behave like this?
Code:
If you're spending your time looking around at others you've lost site of the reason your there. To Worship, Honor and venerate.
I went to Mass as a Child because my Mother dragged me there, I went to Mass as a teenager because if I didn’t I get my butt kicked, although always reverant in Church, ‘we’ made it a social thing to get together with friends.
After High school I went occasionally, after marriage I became Guilty of Crime #2, but add in Palm Sunday, and Ash Wednesday, I could never come home without palms or Ashes on my head. Shorts? On a hot summer day? as long as there not cut-offs, or hot pants can be proper attire. {Not for Lectors, and E.M’s, ministers, who serve as examples}
But that what’s got me where I am today, because of the foundations laid by others. I wasn’t clueless, I just did what I did til the message hit me right between the eyes and heart. God finally broke my stiff neck, and I began to see the light.
it where I was on my journey, we are all in different places on our spiritual paths.
When the student was ready the Master appeared.
With all the religious/ ‘uppity’ Catholics around who pointed the finger at others, It probably kept me away longer. But the Holy Spirit drove me back… I got a future out of ill gotten past and bad habits.
There’s one more item (and probably more) Those who receive and leave, because they don’t think a Mass ought to be longer than 45 minutes, and those who leave because they think that got something better to do.
Mass is like any other celebration, There’s the before, during and after, they all count! That’s what community is about. I’d say at least 60% of the finger pointing Catholics wouldn’t give a guy/ gal in shorts the time of day, not to mention welcoming someone to the Church… you never know what a hello and handshake can mean to someone who feels alone and not worthy to be attending Church, after a long absence away.
Always be nice! The Catholic Church has always been a Church of attraction, not promotion.
I drive a trk, I was out east on L.I. waiting to drop a load of asphalt right next to a Church, I said wow! what an opportunity, I noticed there was a funeral going on in one church, and in the new building next door, I noticed two women at an open door, I asked if there was a chapel inside, the woman who worked there responded with a yes, BUT IT"S CLOSED" *
So I ask would it be okay to sit and pray for five minutes, and that I didn’t want to disturb the funeral next door, She replies, “
I said it is closed” As I walked away, I apologized, and said to myself how very Catholic of you.
As far as not addressing your what I don’t like list" don’t be a finger pointer, don’t be a gossiper be a friend by setting a good example. We need more friends in Church. Set up a hospitality Sunday, meet and greet the community.
We lose people because weare not nice to people! Christ came to save the sinners, not the uppity, not the religious.
By the way I prayed in my Truck.
Oh,oh #22,
What I don’t like about some Catholics is having to argue about what we believe, seems even catholics can act like protestants.
Be honest did you make that list up by yourself? Or did someone sell you on it,
you have vigor don’t waste it on fruitlessness.
God bless,
John*
