Hi (sam),
I have read this link and don’t see how they can get so much from this scripture.
If one reads it like a child how would they get what was offered in the link?
From this passage the idea is sometimes taken that Jesus is denying his own goodness, and therefore, throwing out any chance of being recognized as part of the Godhead.
Not an idea its how it reads.
The standard explanation is that Jesus is essentially saying to the ruler, “Do you know what you are implying? You say I am good; but only God is good; therefore, you realize that you are identifying me with God?”
The “standard explanation” is that of how it reads. to continue as this comentry does may suggest that the wording of the scripture is not correct or offered clearly. That maybe true in some parts but the quotes of Jesus (pbwh) words seem to be very accurate to me. This is one such quote.
God does want to guide us if we let him, do we know better? Who can do better?
[Brooks, commentary on Mark, 162] In Jewish thought, God was pre-eminently good, so that the ruler was indeed offering Jesus a compliment usually reserved for God. Since it is quite unlikely that the ruler truly believed that Jesus was identifiable as God the Son, this looks more like an effort by Jesus to make the man think about what he is saying before he blurts it out or engages in indiscriminate flattery.
I agree it is unlikely that the young man identified Jesus (pbwh) as God the son it more likely that he identified him as a Son of God,or messenger,** big difference**.
To me the young man is speaking as someone who really wants to be in right relationship with God. Who are we to say he is not guided and cant see who Jesus (pbwh) is? Given the text it more likely to assume the young man is not a blind man given him asking Jesus (pbwh) “what is the way?”.
The statement “usually reserved for God” says that it is not only 4 God
but if one uses the assumption that it is for God alone
the young man has already identified Jesus (pbwh)
making the latter comentry of Jesus (pbwh) trying to make him think before he has spoken when he has already spoken a contradiction.
lets keep it simple, how did Jesus (pbwh) teach us to pray?
Who to?
Jesus (pbwh) is faithful to God and does not lead us astray, he leads us to the God.
To me
**
In this scripture the young man seeks to be in right relationship with God asks Jesus (pbwh) how to do it exulting him recognizing Gods goodness.
Jesus (pbwh) guides him on how and to whom.
He credits God as He deserves telling the young man where the goodness he clearly sees came from.**
Why would the scripture need to be sneaky? Satan is sneaky.
Did Jesus (pbwh) came so all would be revealed?
I love you (sam) may God guide us to see His truth as we surrender our wills to Him.
