Hi (sam),
I have read this link and don’t see how they can get so much from this scripture.

If one reads it like a child how would they get what was offered in the link?

From this passage the idea is sometimes taken that Jesus is denying his own goodness, and therefore, throwing out any chance of being recognized as part of the Godhead.

Not an idea its how it reads.

The standard explanation is that Jesus is essentially saying to the ruler, “Do you know what you are implying? You say I am good; but only God is good; therefore, you realize that you are identifying me with God?”

The “standard explanation” is that of how it reads. to continue as this comentry does may suggest that the wording of the scripture is not correct or offered clearly. That maybe true in some parts but the quotes of Jesus (pbwh) words seem to be very accurate to me. This is one such quote.
God does want to guide us if we let him, do we know better? Who can do better?

[Brooks, commentary on Mark, 162] In Jewish thought, God was pre-eminently good, so that the ruler was indeed offering Jesus a compliment usually reserved for God. Since it is quite unlikely that the ruler truly believed that Jesus was identifiable as God the Son, this looks more like an effort by Jesus to make the man think about what he is saying before he blurts it out or engages in indiscriminate flattery.

I agree it is unlikely that the young man identified Jesus (pbwh) as God the son it more likely that he identified him as a Son of God,or messenger,** big difference**.

To me the young man is speaking as someone who really wants to be in right relationship with God. Who are we to say he is not guided and cant see who Jesus (pbwh) is? Given the text it more likely to assume the young man is not a blind man given him asking Jesus (pbwh) “what is the way?”.

The statement “usually reserved for God” says that it is not only 4 God
but if one uses the assumption that it is for God alone
the young man has already identified Jesus (pbwh)
making the latter comentry of Jesus (pbwh) trying to make him think before he has spoken when he has already spoken a contradiction.

lets keep it simple, how did Jesus (pbwh) teach us to pray?
Who to?
Jesus (pbwh) is faithful to God and does not lead us astray, he leads us to the God.

To me
**
In this scripture the young man seeks to be in right relationship with God asks Jesus (pbwh) how to do it exulting him recognizing Gods goodness.

Jesus (pbwh) guides him on how and to whom.
He credits God as He deserves telling the young man where the goodness he clearly sees came from.**

Why would the scripture need to be sneaky? Satan is sneaky.

Did Jesus (pbwh) came so all would be revealed?

I love you (sam) may God guide us to see His truth as we surrender our wills to Him.

Hi Steven,
What country are you originally from?
I see your a fellow Aussie now, but what is your background?
God bless
Dolphy
I was born of Catholic Father C of E mother
Had devout Catholic grand parents for whom i give thanks to God
I had an uncle who was a Christian brother
I have an Aunty who is a good Samaritan nun
My wife is Catholic she went through RCIA after meeting me
I intended to raise 2 daughters as Catholic
I am a vincentian
I work for Centa Care (Catholic social services)
I am actively involved in my local parish
I am active in our Diocesan planning assembly
and the list goes on

I cut this from another post as i am lazy typer.

i have never made confirmation as the priest i asked to help me made false witness of me.

I was crystal clear i was not ready to go beyond inquiring as i did not want to testify to what i did not believe in.
I was printed in the news letter as being committed to being confirmed.
When i said to him this was not true and we had spoken of it, he just said i does not matter i could just change my mind later.
When i was a kid i would say what ever i was told to.
Now i am a man i want to offer myself honestly to God.
Jesus (pbwh) did that and offers me to do the same.

The parish where i pray started dialog with our muslim community and encouraged us to engage.

I did and have been very blessed from doing it.

Our muslim community is small and has some lovely people in it, i pray with them most fridays, there funerals ect I help the old men with their building projects and care of the mosque. Others my age have many reasons / excuses as to why they cant. Same in our catholic parish.
I ponder if my generation of aussies have too much or have it too easy.

As you can see from previous posts i have not made the shihada, on of our Imams has told me he sees me as a muslim.
And the community has moved on from the shiada issue.

When people ask me what religion i am i tell them to ask their God.

God loves and blesses me way beyond what i deserve.

I dont want a religion lable because we all have different concepts of what it means to be in “x religion”

If people had a bad experience with “x religion” and you say you are “x religion” they can see you as being of their bad experience and miss God in your communication.

I really want people to share openly their relationship with God in peace. This helps me grow and know God better. I pray it will do the same for them.

If i have gone on too much sorry, if i have missed what you were looking 4 in your question, please feel comfortable to ask more.

May God bless you and yours.

Sam_777:
I like the triangle God offered by Jesus (pbwh) is at the top.

God does not want it to be difficult to understand. yet as men we make it so.

He sent Jesus (pbwh) because men had made complex the scripture of old.

We now have the narrated words of Jesus (pbwh) so we don’t need to complex them again.

For me
We need to empty ourselves of pre conceived notions offered to us by the understanding of others and pray and reflect on the words God gave us from the person of Jesus (pbwh).

For others they have prophets (pbwt) or holy men.

For me
this is valuable and helpful deepening my understanding of men and God but does not over ride the narrated words of Jesus (pbwh)

Does any on know how long the Mission of Jesus (pbwh) appears to be in the Mathew narration?
Does any on have any idea what date it was written?

Does any on know how long the Mission of Jesus (pbwh) appears to be in the Mark narration?
Does any on have any idea what date it was written?

Does any on know how long the Mission of Jesus (pbwh) appears to be in the Luke narration?
Does any on have any idea what date it was written?

Does any on know how long the Mission of Jesus (pbwh) appears to be in the John narration?
Does any on have any idea what date it was written?

I am not real good at the scholar stuff.

I have a pocket bible given to me by a guidian man the Gospel accounts / stories overlap to me that is we get multiple accounts of the same story.

can anyone please give me the cross references for John 8:16 and 14:26?

Also in time long ago there was other accounts similar to Johns does any one know why they are not in the Guidian bible i have?

My guidian bible contradicts the triangle
Acts 10:38

… for God was with him.

The triangle says is.

Is the bible i have wrong?

The person quoted in it wrong?

Or the triangle wrong?

Please dont offer God is hard to understand in human terms, the book is written in human terms.

Of this, prayer and my life experience so far

I testify before you, God was with Jesus (pbwh) and he offered us the same.
Such understanding unifies men and brings peace.
To have “difficult in human terms” understanding divides.

i am interested to see what you think of this story,

I was approached after mass one day by an elderly woman who said we should start a prayer group.

I asked the PP if he would permit us to do so. He was happy and agreed.

I asked the Knights of the Souther cross if i could use their meeting room. They were happy for this and gave me a key.

Both of the PP and the knights know I quietly, openly, not boldly declare i do not fully accept the trinity concept to any that ask, as for me the Father is greater than Jesus (pbwh) and he said i am to pray to the Father.

The sister, a brother who also asked me to start a prayer group met last night.

i explained my position as stated above before we began as they had asked me to worship and pray to Jesus (pbwh).

We began prayer with them chanting and invoking Jesus (pbwh) and while they were doing this i prayed quietly to the Father that he bless this group.

At a personal level i get a little gelous that God blessed them to see Jesus (pbwh) different to how i do and be so passionate about it, it pases quickly and i just give it to the Father that He knows what is best. I look for testament from these people of what is Catholic in Character.

we shared scripture Mathew 10 26:33 and offered our personal inspiration. They both seemed to grasp the meaning well.

The meeting was very nice and we will meet each week as the group builds.

The woman asked me if i could help her today to move a couple of beds from a house to her daughters house. I agreed as i am blessed to have flexible working structure and am sent to serve.

Today i called at the house as planned and the daughter is sent with me to move the beds. I am a bit of a shovanist and would avoid women doing lifting ect but beds are light so it seems ok.

When we get to the house to collect the beds i am shown beds, wall units, rocker chair, kitchen table and chairs.

No hope to do it there and then as we will need lifting gear and another bloke. Given the situation I agree to take care of it some how.

My questioning is least about the furniture and most about the woman and scripture.

The scripture is about among lots of other things about God opening up the previously hidden.

Should Catholics also be open about things if they are children of God? *Please don’t correct me here saying Jesus (pbwh) is the only son. *

This woman does not appear to have been.

Incidentally both the man and the women asked me seperatly neither knew each other. common to both is after my agreeing they quickly dumped all the organizing on me. They keep trying to call it my prayer group but they dictate the terms. I keep telling them it is not my group, it is theirs and the other participants.

Is it Catholic in Character to trick people or is it OK for them to do to me as i dont worship the same?

I say Jesus (pbwh) is the way to the God that is greater than he.
I aspire to be more like Jesus (pbwh) and pray to his God.

This God inspires in me to be open and honest with both believers and non believers.

I have the choice to say no way lady you tricked me, but my God is kind to me, patient , forgiving and gives me more than i deserve.

I feel i should do this for others so will hire help and move their stuff smile and if they say thanks will tell them to give it to My God not me.

Incidentally they are not people without means the man of the house is a Doctor and his wife a teacher.

HELP what is Catholic in character and what part of her testimony would inspire me to go against the narrations of Jesus (pbwh) spoken to pray to other than the Father?
No, it’s not Catholic Character to trick people.

If I believed that I was to help move a bed and it turned out to be a whole room full of stuff and I’d have to HIRE someone to help? Sorry I would have told them to find someone else that I thought I was just going to help move a bed. The nerve of some people.

Otherwise I don’t really get the rest of your post. Except that you started a prayer group and that you don’t believe in the trinity? You are right that the prayer group is for everyone and it’s not just YOUR prayer group you just started it is all.

Hi Steve,
It’s always nice reading your thread because I see your spirituality. As spirituality is very important because religion without it could be dangerous.
God bless

Hi Steven,

Could you tell me why you say you are a Vincentian aren’t they an order of priests? Sounds like to me you have been more then involved with the Muslim community and are greatly influenced by them and their beliefs. Really confusing when you say you are a Vincentian. 🤷

As a Vincentian i am a member of our St Vincent De Paul conference and now also work for St Vincent De Paul diocesan council.

I think here are Vincention preists also, not that i have met one and here in Oz there may not be any.

I guess they would seek Gods guidance through St Vincent de Paul.

I don’t see myself as influence by Muslims or Catholics i aspire to be influenced by God.
If i see Gods truth, spirit, guidance etc in any person or group of people i am called acknowledge it…

Like wise if i see what is not of God i rebuke it.

Of course i am fallible it is the reason i join discussion groups so together we help each other not be led astray.

May God keep and guide you and yours as so yous submit unto Him and He wills.

Update on the “great bed move”

last night we gathered again for prayer after my greeting with the woman the first thing she said to me was “i feel terrible about last week”

I put my arm around her and said “don’t worry about it sister i love you”

All praise be to God who helps and guides us all.
I know in my heart your thoughts and prayers have helped His will in this guidance.

Thanks Steven for clarifying. St Louis Missouri is the headquarters for the Vincentians here in the US which are an order of priests founded by St Vincent De Paul in France…they are also called Lazarists in a lot of places even here but Vincentians is becoming more popular. Several years ago we had several of them helping out in our parish as we only have one church and one priest for a fairly large community. They’re time with us came to an end and they returned to St. Louis…I sure miss them. We had one retired Vincentian Father Jim, that said Mass and gave great homilies until his death a couple of years ago.

Thank you for the blessings and peace of Christ be with you as well.

Elizabeth

Peace be with the priest Jim,

Dear Sister,
I love our PP’s very much.
When priests that live devoted lives visit us i feel very blessed and motivated by their sharing,
I guess unlike our PP’s they don’t get so buried in our worldly stuff and see things with better clarity.

In regards to you missing them you may like to consider,
if you know another brethren that also misses them find some time to get together and share what you liked about them. Preferably in your Mass Center.
Then together worship and pray (only to the Father) asking for a prayer connection with them.

This can be of great benefit to you as individuals and for your parish.
This in turn will help your PP.
PP’s need parishioners to seek into their own hearts what you miss about the visiting priests.
may the sacrifice be at ALL our hands.

It is only a suggestion.

May God bless and guide you.

PS
Do you have a Vinnies conference at your parish?

I don’t think we have a St Vincent De Paul’s program here…but there is a church by that name in another community some distance from us perhaps they do. I’m sure though our parish has programs dedicated to the help of the poor etc.

I pray to Jesus as well…and also in the community of saints realize the intersession of the Saints is most powerful. 🙂

Thanks Steven, hope you have a great day.
