No, because the Supreme Court rules on it and may well be in error. So, it is a battle. We have bad laws and it is a war but sometimes, the pro-life side does come away with victory. It’s a relentless battle. Supreme Court is Federal and rules on State laws sometimes.
 
Yes, I know what the Supreme Court is. For example, I know that it ruled on a Louisiana abortion law only a few weeks ago. But you said that “with a proper understanding of the Constitution”, states could ban abortion in ways that will not be ruled unconstitutional at the federal level. Now, I do not know what those ways would be. But if you think it is possible, perhaps this is the way forward: get the very best constitutional experts to craft state laws that cannot be struck down by the SCOTUS. Alternatively, try to get the Constitution amended. Or just take abortion out of party politics and have both parties work in a cross-party way to try to come up with the best possible compromise that the greatest number of the people will accept.
 
As much as I would love a unilateral disarmament, there has to be a level of trust between nuclear powers that just doesn’t exist. The US would be foolish to disarm and hope that Russia, China and North Korea would also comply…even if they signed papers stating so. Throw in Lybia, Syria and these other lesser powers…it’s just not going to happen. Whatever else we wish, we must be realists here.
 
Whine , whine whine. Anyone who thinks this is a dangerous, weird time in American society has a short memory. 1967-1968 were the strangest, most divisive times I have ever experienced and they resonate to this day.
 
Formed a lot of my continuing attitudes to public order and the fragility of same.

I am for total nuclear disarmament and the elimination of all nuclear weapons. As the Pope has declared and as he has taught, it is immoral for a country to possess nuclear weapons.

There are various methods of inspection which can be used to ensure compliance.

Assure compliance? absolutely, positively assure? See, the problem is that many things can be hidden. It would boil down to trust. I guarantee you we don’t trust them and I guarantee you they don’t trust us. Maybe someday…

I can definitely believe this list.

One ought to check out the Los Angeles Unified School District sometime. The degree to which English is not the first language at home in that district may shock you. If you think that’s not bad, wait til those kids grow up. California will be dramatically different in 2040.

Don’t you think a country could still continue to have nuclear weapons…not large scale obviously but small hidden underground spaces strictly controlled where small production and research could continue? That’s my fear. Maybe we do have ways of knowing but I tend to think that bombs could still be made or stored…?

The problem with total disarmament is that a few bombs ruins the plan! It changes the dynamic and the power! Am I just that paranoid?

It is almost always Spanish, and not something else. Some elementary school classes are taught partly in English and partly in Spanish. In which case the pupil will be hearing the same lesson twice, but in two different languages.
