Hi all!

This has been bothering me for quite some time…I will just make this short and sweet! What is the history of Islam and how do we know whether it is true or false…I have read a bit of the do and do nots…(As ridiculous as it may sound…In Islam dogs are unclean…I have a dog and I am finding myself hesitant to approach it at times) And the whole thing has me worried…Very much…

Hope you all have a great rest of your day!

If you ever read the Quran the “historical books” well poetic & sweet sounding is filled with “Hey, remember the story of Abraham? Wasn’t that a great story? We should learn from this.” Without implicitly saying the details of the story.

Say what you want about the bible lest its specific.

Catechism
841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day."330

842 The Church’s bond with non-Christian religions is in the first place the common origin and end of the human race:
All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city. . .331
843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."332

If you want to learn about why Islam is false then I suggest the YouTube channel Acts17Apologetics as a good start. They’re not exactly very respectful of the religion, but their approach has led many muslims away from Islam.

As the name suggests they’re dedicated to arguing from reason why Islam is false, based on what the Hadiths and the Qur’an says. It’s usually very entertaining, and I promise you will not worry about whether Islam is true after watching a few of their videos.

Some aspects of Islam may be true in the sense of any virtues that align with Christianity.

But Islam’s views on Jesus are false, especially considering that they trust texts written about Jesus hundreds of years after He lived.

Is it true or is it false?
Galatians 1:8:
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.
Islam is a religion that allegedly was revealed to a prophet named Mohammed 6 centuries after our Lord ascended into Heaven. It was allegedly revealed to him by an Angel (the Angel Gabriel, in fact). This religion denies the Divine Sonship of Our Lord, denies his crucifixion, denies resurrection, and denies the infallibility of His Church to dogmatically define these beliefs…

Revealed by an angel, preaching a gospel contrary to The Gospel preached to us by the Apostles. I think that’s pretty clear cut, don’t you?

As far as its history, its beliefs, the practices of its adherents, etc. That’s a whole heck of a lot to do justice to in a short forum post. I will warn you to be very careful with the information provided by Catholics and other Christians on this site (or any other). Asking Catholics who hate Islam what Islam teaches is like asking the Westboro Baptist Church what our Catholic Faith teaches.

I don’t understand why the question is being asked whether Islam is true or false in this forum…

We don’t recognise Muhammad as a prophet so the answer is false.

However their faith has certain truths just like other religions that must be respected.

From the Christian perspective, Islam cannot be true totally. We share some common values but there are many religious doctrines where we contradict each other.

We cannot believe that the Quran is inspired as the Bible is and therefore cannot hold Muhammad as a true prophet.

The New Testament was written within 30-60 years of Jesus’s life compared to the “Gospel of Barnabas” (which many Muslims use to deny the divinity of Jesus) which at best was written 600 years later.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world” - 1John 4.

According this definition, Islam qualifies as an Antichrist religion.

Because Islam denies the divinity and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, the historical Mohammed is hardly an example to follow: warrior and polygamist. By their fruits you will know them.

Islam is just one of your pagan religions, they have there own beliefs. They do claim that their deity Allah is identified with the Almighty God of the Bible, much like our Hindu friends claim that Jesus is an incarnation of Vishnu from the Hindu trinity.

Islam came into existence after the Catholic Church, and the opinion of our Catholic forefathers on the muslims has really aired over the centuries. We’ve been in a lot more contact with Islam than with Hinduism or a lot of the other pagan faiths

Islam is a Christian heresy that got out of hand. It has some truths within it but is not the full truth. That is only found within the Catholic Church.

There are quite a few warriors and polygamists in our scriptures, too. God speaks of King David as “a man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22) and he was a great warrior. And God calls Abraham “my friend” (Isaiah 41:8) even though he was a polygamist. Jacob was also a polygamist. So, it seems a little hypocritical for Christians to criticize Muhammed for being a warrior and a polygamist when revered people in our own tradition were the same.

I believe the stories in the Quran relating to Jesus are an anachronism. I’d rather rely on the Apostles words about Jesus Christ considering it was they who were his disciples
