What is odd about you....?

I read magazines backwards. Obviously I have to read the individual articles the right way, but I start with the ones at the back of the magazine. I don’t know why, but I’ve done it for as long as I can remember.

My MIL drives me crazy, doing something similar with books… there she is in Barnes and Noble, in the mystery section, no less, reading the last chapter of the book before she decides to buy it!

I mean, WHAT’S THE POINT IN BUYING IT, THEN??? You KNOW how it turned out!

I beg to differ.

I frequently reread many of my favourite novels (1984, just about anything by Jane Austen, A Patch of Blue, To Kill a Mockingbird etc etc) even though I perfectly well ‘know how it turned out’.

Sometimes a book is so darn good that it just doesn’t matter.

I don’t know if this is that odd but I talk to animals…and bugs…and anything really. No I’m not totally insane :D…I don’t hear anything back lol…but I like to chat. And I like insects…I won’t kill 'em - I go to great lengths to take them outside if I find one in my apt. Or save them…I saved a drowning ant not too long ago…and a cricket that was trying to cross the road and almost got run over.

When I was a kid I used to really wish I was an animal…anything other than human. I ran around with these fake tails attached to me. Somehow it must have stuck. I used to run up the stairs on all fours. Nowadays if I encounter some carpeted steps, I have to resist the urge not to go up on all fours. OMG…typing this out just made me realize that this is truly strange lol…

And finally, I find that if I’m thinking of someone, they’ve just called me - usually I’m right. They’ll leave a message on my cell and I’ll see they called, or emailed or something. But it’s a weird kind of knowing…not the kind where you purposely think of someone, but the kind where they just pop into your head…but I think a lot of people get this.

I do this! With catalogs too. Always start at the back. I don’t know why:confused:

It’s not really as odd as you think. Advertisers will pay more for ads at the backs of magazines than they will in the middle because this is not as uncommon as you think. 😉

I do this as well. Do a Google search for - reading magazines backwards - and you will find a lot of hits with people asking that very same question.

Another thing that makes me odd is that I will always read the end a book first. To me the interesting thing about a story is how you get to the end and there’s nothing I hate more and reading through a book only to have a terrible or bad ending. I’m the same with movies.

Me too.

Maybe somewhere up your bloodlines, you guys got a Japanese or two? 😛

However, on that subject. I shall contribute a bit more to my list of what’s odd about me.

I listen to Japanese music even though I barely understand a word. 😛
And guess what? ME NO CARE!!! X3 All the songs used remind me of the shows they’re in. That’s enough for this fanboy. X3

I love this thread! Funny how your own embarrassing quirks are not embarrassing when you see someone else post about them.
Okay, about me:
  • I have absolutely no sense of direction. The one time I went to Bloomingdales in New York I got so lost that I had to ask for the way out. By that time I was exhausted and crying. Whenever I get out of a store or other building, I walk in the wrong direction. If I second-guess myself and go in the opposite direction, that turns out to be the wrong direction too.
  • I hate being touched. Save my immediate family (husband and kids) I do not want people touching me at all. Going to the doctor is a major chore for me. I have no history of abuse, so there is no logical explanation for it.
  • My favorite sandwich consists of two slices of toast, one with cheese, one with peanut butter… smushed together.
  • I have lousy hand-to-eye coordination, but I am surprisingly good at bowling.
  • I cannot look in mirrors at night. They creep me out.
  • I am afraid of clowns.
That’s it for now. 😃

Same here! If I have to get up in the middle of the night, I walk around looking down at my feet so that I can avoid looking at any mirrors.

And on that note, I’m a grown woman and still afraid of the dark. I have no idea why. I guess I just hate not being able to see what’s around me. (Sort-of dark where you can still make out shadows is okay. It’s the pitch-black where you can’t see anything that creeps me out.)

i have some kind of genetic “disorder” where I was born with 2.5 rows of (adult) teeth. it also involves emitting some kind of scent or something that most people don’t pick up on but absolutely enrages certain types of animals. I’ve been bitten by hundreds of housecats, and can’t go to zoos.

Wow, that sounds extremely inconvenient! 😦

I engage in entire Conversations with Myself. I try my Darnedest not to do it in front of People, though. 👍

My OCD causes me to stare out into Space for several moments at a time while I do “Mental Rituals” to stop Obsessive Thoughts from staying in my Mind. Sometimes I can’t help but do it in Public—causing some to think I’m staring directly at them.

My OCD also causes me to count the number of Paragraphs I type on a thread Space—like right now. I can only have either 5 paragraphs or 3 paragraphs—if more than that, it has to be a certain Odd or Even Number-----else I get anxiety and have to correct it.
OCD is NOT for wimps, I tell ya. 😛
How are THOSE for “Oddities?”:o

I am 64 and began collecting Annette Himstedt dolls 8 years ago until the factory went belly up in 2008. I have over 80. I don’t play with them – just like to look at them.

My friends and family think I’m crazy and tactfully never mention the dolls.

I’m also a Sci-Fi and Renaissance music junkie – can’t get enough of either!

I am **not **staring at your chest. I am staring at your sweater. I’m a knitter…sometimes I can’t help it. 😊

On a less creepy note…my husband and I have a room full of musical instruments (mostly pre-owned) that we can just grab whatever we’re in the mood to dabble with. I’m currently a competent flute player, a semi-competent ukulele player, and I am absolutely horrendous with the guitar, electric bass, sax, and trombone. 😛

Oh my we are twins. :o I also do this.

A very good friend of mine would always talk herself to sleep at night, with her outside voice. When she got married she tried to tone it down a bit but could not stop entirely. Her husband said it creeped him out a bit so I think she has been able to stop finally. But yes, she also would have entire conversations with herself. 😃
