What is odd about you....?

A very good friend of mine would always talk herself to sleep at night, with her outside voice. When she got married she tried to tone it down a bit but could not stop entirely. Her husband said it creeped him out a bit so I think she has been able to stop finally. But yes, she also would have entire conversations with herself. 😃

Apparently my brother-in-law talks in his sleep as well, thank goodness not in an ‘outside voice’ or anything.

Oh no - this was not in her sleep! She would be totally awake, talking to herself until she fell asleep! LOL

😊 Small but crucial distinction between the two. I think we just possibly might have a winner in the ‘odd’ stakes there.

The odd thing about me is that I am really quirky. Quirky to the degree that strangers stop me in public to comment.

For example, women at the supermarket will approach me to say that I have lovely fingernails. That is kind of odd, isn’t it?

Women at the neighborhood Karaoke bar love to tell me I have better legs than they do. That, I think, qualifies as odd.

Those things wouldn’t happen if I wasn’t so quirky, but the thing is that I enjoy being a quirky fellow, and I’m good at it.

Quirky is not, I think, a moral issue. It is an unusual approach to life, and a different attitude.

So, yes, I might be a little odd. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Weird electrochemical makeup such that:
  1. I can’t wear a normal watch because it either stops or runs slow.
  2. I once permanently stopped someone’s watch by shaking their hand.
  3. I attract lightning.
  4. Can’t keep a cell phone turned on because the energy will drain real fast.
  5. I can’t use a compass … either they like to point the opposite direction,
or they like to point South West. (that was my car compass, which I got rid of)
A few reasons why I consider myself a real live X-File.

Life is an adventure!
👍
I’m so glad to have read this. So far, I haven’t been able to keep time with a wrist watch either. It’s been ages since I’ve worn one, mainly for that reason. I used to think it was the watches but in recent years I’ve been thinking the problem is me!

I sing to and about my dog a lot. I take songs, keep the melody and change the words.

I can burp at will. I can burp the alphabet and I also can speak in burp.

I can’t believe I just admitted this on a catholic forum.

We do this!! “You Are My Sunshine” is our favorite song to reword for our kitties and other critters. 😃

Well guess I’ll join in on the fun

This happens a lot: I’ll hear a phone ring before it actually starts to ring. Or I’ll just randomly walk over to the phone and pick it up without realizing why I did that and then it rings in my hand.

I can hear music that no one else can hear. When I was little I heard conversations between people that I couldn’t see. I would run around the house trying to find the tv or radio that was left on. (I am not schizophrenic/delusional/psychotic, nor are they hallucinations just to clear that up)

I like being by myself a lot and until I got married I didn’t realize just how much I enjoyed it

I can’t bear to watch an animal in any kind of pain without physically/mentally suffering myself. For example I couldn’t watch an animal getting worked on at a vet but a human getting worked on at a dr I could do.

I physically/mentally feel other people’s pain too which makes my job extremely difficult

If I could read all day I would.

I’ve been told numerous times I should have been born in like the 1700/1800s or early 1900s. I am only 26 but I have an old old soul.

I get lost in my own head a lot just constantly thinking about things, so much in fact that I will stop breathing.

Hmmm–I thought that my going in a complete circle (which I caught myself doing again today!) was on the wacky side but after reading some of the posts here I may not be certifiable ! 😉

I put on my shoes in this order. Sock-shoe, sock-shoe. Most people do sock-sock, shoe-shoe. I have no idea when I started doing this, or why.

What a fun post.
  1. I like lima beans and hate soda.
  2. I count steps 😊
  3. I park on the outskirts of the parking lot…deliberately.
  4. I eat M&Ms symmetrically 😊
  5. I eat one food at a time, starting with the veggies.
  6. I have eclectic tastes (encompasses all aspects of my life, from decor and reading material to homeschooling and religious practices).
  7. I can read Chaucer in Middle English 👍.
  8. I am a major homebody and don’t need to be around people all that often.
  9. I am not a girlie girl; I preferred playing with Hot Wheels cars vs Barbie Dolls; I don’t like pink; nylons and high heels are Medieval torture devices 😃 and I like “critters” (reptiles, amphibians, and insects are so cool…especially butterflies, which I used to catch and mount…for fun ;)).

I just have to say… reading all these posts from people frankly admitting their quirks, makes me love all of you that much more! It is so cute, the way we all have these little idiosyncrasies. And the way we own up to them. All of a sudden these posters that I feel are so very far above me… the ones with razor-sharp minds, incredible grasp of the teachings of the Church and the Scriptures, and an uncanny ability to point out the discrepancy in someone else’s logic turn out to be pretty much just like me… quirky. Love it! May God bless each and every one of you abundantly!

  1. I talk to myself much. This habit of mine became more frequent when I started college; I have to convince myself of what I’m learning for me to internalize it and get good grades!
Nowadays though, I’m often talking to myself to try to clarify my feelings for a good friend of mine (and decide what to do). I can only hope that when we do talk soon, we can resolve the issues fairly easily 🙂
  2. I just burst into song when I have intense feelings. And people often compliment me on my voice, which makes me feel kinda shy (Although, yes, I know I have a good voice haha) 😊

I know a guy who does that circle thing, or at least he used to. Or maybe it was a hand thing that was funny. Anyways, he’s the most amazing genius I know.

As for me, I have Asperger’s Syndrome so good luck finding something normal about me!
Like you I have Asperger’s.

If it comes to odd things, I got a list of them but let me start with one.

I detest driving. I for the life of me cannot understand the American obsession with cars. The word road trip is fine with me until I learn I have to drive. I am happy with taking the bus, plane or train.

I’m an artist, which makes my eccentricities only… more pronounced. Late night poetry, dancing in my birthday suit as I clean (I live alone with a pet), loud singing… oooh it would probably take pages to describe my eccentricities. 😃

I gravitate toward very unusual people, always good people, but very quirky people.

I get bored with the things that most people like to talk about. can’t do small talk.

I’m mostly a listener almost never a talker.

I can’t drive a night because I can see in the dark well.

I hate my picture taken.

I have quite a list! I’m happy to be odd! 😃

I love vintage clothes, and all vintage things. I find they look way better than modern things. I also find vintage clothes/vintage style clothes more comfortable. I wear vintage style clothes everyday. I also enjoy going to thrift stores, and looking for vintage things.

I always go the speed limit. If someone is behind me, going too close, I continue going the speed limit. I will never break the law, even small laws.

I really can’t stand reading books with long chapters. The only book I find interesting is the Bible, as the chapters are nice and short. 🙂

I am a vegetarian. I’m not a vegetarian because I am against the treatment of animals or anything like that. I’m a vegetarian because I don’t want to eat veins.

I don’t like chocolate. I can’t eat it. It makes me sick (or so I think). I don’t want to risk it by eating it. Besides, when I did eat it, I always remember feeling sick.

This is what is unusual about me. I am happy to be eccentric! 😃
