This is the closest I’ve gotten to an answer.Oh, I also heard this wild guy running around telling everyone Jesus and Mary said we should do penance!

Where did the bible come from? Which church gave it to the world? Ponder that. So, then, your saying that someone in the Church, one day, declared that Mary and Jesus want us to carry out acts of penance…and seeing as the Church is infallible in faith and morals…I guess there’s no arguing with them as to how they came to that conclusion.
Look at this, right here on this site!!!Jesus and the Blessed Mother Mary asks us to pray, fast and do penance. What do They mean by penance? Is it just what the priest gives us to do when we are finishing up our confession? Or is it going to Confession often? Or is it something more?
Reign it in a bit, don’t get so upset.Where did the bible come from? Which church gave it to the world? Ponder that.
Who taught you that everything is made up? It is more likely that what you believe is made up, isn’t it? Making something up includes subtracting as well as adding. Your bible has less books. Your church has less Sacraments, less history, less of everything. That has to be made up, right? I mean, God didn’t take all of those things out. Who then? Man.
Isn’t the Gospel message to repent and believe in the Gospel?Reign it in a bit, don’t get so upset.
First of all, I don’t subscribe to sola scriptura and if no one around here knows who decided that Mary and Jesus want people to carry out acts of penance…then just say you don’t know who decided that they know what Jesus and Mary want, but your happy to believe it.
I’m not upset at all! See the fallacy of sola scriptura? You easily misinterpreted my tone!Reign it in a bit, don’t get so upset.

Thanks for the link, but it does not address the question…where is it found, or who decided, that Mary and Jesus want us to carry out acts of penance.Look at this, right here on this site!!!

Faith is always present. Skepticism and cynicism enter into the equation when one looks at the uncensored history of the Church in relation to culture, politics and religion.I’m not upset at all! See the fallacy of sola scriptura? You easily misinterpreted my tone!
Seriously, do you think a faith that can trace its roots directly to Christ just made things up over the centuries and no one challenged it?
***********Mary’s assumption is made up…what’s to challenge, it’s an infallible teaching of the Church.
Luther challenged individuals within the church, and their practices. The teachings he left mostly alone. And that is all the good that came from the rebellion.
*************Another good thing is that people discovered that they could receive the promises of Christ outside the institution and requirements of the Church.
Does the power to bind and loose strike a chord? The Apostles had the power to bind and loose, combined with God’s revelation to them through their lives. It’s in the power to bind and loose. which Christ gave to the church knowing what would be done with it. Must you read everything to believe? Where does faith enter in? Really?
You have actually received a couple of very good answers, a very nice one from po18guy for openers but you simply don’t seem to be able process the concept that every part of Christianity is not ordered specifically in the Bible in modern English. That is the approach of the entire schismatic movement called “protestants”.This is the closest I’ve gotten to an answer.
I didn’t give YOU that link smarty pants. I gave it to Jesus N Cherie on Post # 23.Thanks for the link, but it does not address the question…where is it found, or who decided, that Mary and Jesus want us to carry out acts of penance.
liberational ==Isn’t the Gospel message to repent and believe in the Gospel?
The Blessed Mother has been appearing in different places all over the world and her message is always the same also. Repent and believe. Listen to Jesus, do His will, not your own.
Some of the Approved ones are
Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of La Salette, Our Lady of the Miraclous Medal, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Knock.
Look them up, do a search on this site.
The church is led by the Holy Spirit and Jesus Himself. Who has authority over the Holy Trinity? And you didn’t answer my questions. Are you going to?Faith is always present. Visions? That’s where it comes from???liberational ==
Here is the answer I gave YOU, on post 25.
The three Magi had a vision which told them to return home by another route. Joseph had a vision before he took the Holy Family to Egypt. You discount visions? Really now…Visions? That’s where it comes from???
Ok, thanks for the answer, now I know.

Since the Protestant church is 1/4 as old as Christ’s Church, all criticism here is equivalent to a 15 year old telling grandfather all about life. Chutzpah! How right you are. Thank you, and may God Who is Truth and Love bless you and yours. When I think of penance, it reminds me of what all my Catholic friends say: “OFFER IT UP!”![]()
