So, we know that the Apostles were preaching accurately, because their preaching came to be recorded in the Book of Acts, which was defined as Scripture by Pope Innocent I in 405 AD, and is therefore known to be inerrant.

How did the people listening to them at the time (who didnā€™t have the Book of Acts to read, nor the Decree on the Holy Scriptures to let them know that the Book of Acts is inerrant) know that the Apostles were preaching infallibly? šŸ™‚

Iā€™m not sure what you mean. Are you referring to either the Old or New Testaments, or are you using the word Testament in a different sense?

There are 46 books in the Old Testament, and all of them are Inspired, but anyway, no, Jesus did not quote from all of them, nor even from most of them. He quoted mostly from the Book of Deuteronomy and from the Book of Psalms, with other quotations from the other four Books of Moses from time to time. He limited Himself to those because those were the ones that were universally recognized as Scripture in His times.

His Apostles quoted from the Prophets, especially from Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Micah, but we donā€™t find every book of the Old Testament quoted from in the New; only just a few. The Apostles used all 46 books of the Old Testament in their liturgies, but they didnā€™t quote massively from them in their writings.

Heā€™s talking about what Christians call the Old Testament. So whatā€™s the point?

I couldnā€™t respond much before- Iā€™m just getting over a bad case of H1N1.

The good news is that God can make us perfect and holy, if weā€™re willing, and desires that we live with Him in eternal happiness.

Heā€™s certainly not talking about searching the NT to find life. Jesus instituted the New Covenant but, if anything in the passage you quoted, Heā€™s instructing us that no scripture searching is sufficient.

Thatā€™s an incorrect interpertation and a very low view of the Word of God. :imsorry:

Itā€™s not at all a low view of the Word of God-itā€™s keeping the Word in its proper perspective-as God meant it to be.
