There must have been a movement or group that originally founded your church.

Yes, the Pentecostal Church of God founded in 1919 by a group of Full Gospel ministers and churches who did not want to affiliate with the Assemblies of God, which had been founded earlier in 1914.

That I can and DO know that GOD, my God is REALLY; Truly & Substantially present in our Catholic Churches and in our Holy Communion:hugs:
Do Holy Communion hugs replace the practice of the Holy Kiss? 😇

The Catholic Church has no need to trace itself through anything. We simply trace back directly to Jesus Christ himself! We do not rely on the traditions and organizations of men. NO! Instead, we rely on the power and authority and divine mission that Christ has commissioned us to! We are not some sect of men. NO! We are God’s only one true, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church!

The Catholic Church was commissioned by Jesus Christ himself, who gave the proper authority to the apostles which in turn is handed down via apostolic succession and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

On the other hand, Protestants rebelled against the authority of the Catholic Church (an authority given to it by Christ himself) and branched off into hundreds of different sects. Where does your particular Pentecostal sect get its authority from? Did Jesus come down and commission you? It seems as if you have no legitimacy. So how can you claim to be of Christ? The Church can claim this, because Christ directly gave it to her (Matthew 16:18, Matthew 18:18, Matthew 28:19, John 20:21-23). The Church is the bride of Christ (Revelation 19:7). So what is your particular Pentecostal sect? And how do you know your sect is any more true than the hundreds of other Protestant sects? Where is your authority from God?

@thephilosopher6 I have neither the time nor the desire to debate with you over whose church is legitimate and whose is the impostor. For you see, you are not my enemy, and I have never been yours. I thought I might enjoy a thread where everyone simply shared their religious tradition’s inspiration without apologetics and gotcha. Alas, it is not to be.

You ask where I derive my authority from God? I am a simple Christian. “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” This is what I believe, and I pray it is true for me every day.

The Catholic Church is the one true Church; you are a Christian, but a Christian who believes in major heresy and the traditions of men.

No, it’s not my opinion, this is truth. Christ has revealed certain Christian truths to the Church, truths which you do not believe, yet instead you go off into the traditions of men, rejecting the teachings of Christ which the Church holds to.

What are the teachings of Christ that you believe I reject?

Your very rejection of the Catholic Church is the root of all of your heresies.
Council of Trent, Session XXIII, CANON V.-- If any one saith, that, in the Catholic Church there is not a hierarchy by divine ordination instituted, consisting of bishops, priests, and ministers; let him be anathema.

I didn’t even know you could quote 5 different people… !!! How do you do that???

Honestly! The OP invited non-Catholics to share the inspiration for their ecclesiastical affiliation, and it has already become an opportunity to bash them for being “protestant rebels”. This is not how to create an environment for productive discussion.

Not in this thread. There is a time and place for everything. That is not the purpose of this thread.

I would say the main inspiration of the Baha’i Faith which is not a “denomination” of Christianity or Islam but in our view an independent dispensation is Divine Inspiration or revelation that is similar to the experience of revelation to the Prophets and Messengers of God referred to in the past Holy Books.

The main inspiration for Mormonism is the lack of mental health care in 19th century America.

You’re right, it’s about explaining to them the true faith and warning them away from their heresies.
It is difficult to create an opportunity to explain your faith to others if you disqualify yourself at the outset by insulting your listener. You might also want to consult the catechism on your relationship with your separated brethren, especially if you wish to start slinging around words like “heresies”.
