What is wrong with kissing the Qu'ran?

And, yes, sometimes pointing out the truth is wrong. That’s why detraction, which is form of pointing out the truth, is sinful.
You are correct. Sometimes it is. However, the Pope is considered the moral leader in not only the Catholic Church but in the entire world. Are you saying we should just follow the Pope and all go kissing Korans or should we point out what he did should not be followed? I believe we have to point out that what he did was heretical and that no one else do it.

If he did indeed confess, then perhaps I wonder why his penance wasn’t publicly acknowledging his transgression against God. After all, Peter wept and Pope Paul did with his HV declaration after his own erroneous Progressio Populorum.

Sometimes the smartest people are completely lacking in common sense! ** I’ll bet you though, it was just a spontaneous action on the part of JPII**. If he had thought about it, I would like to think he would have reconsidered and thought of all the possible ramifications, or at least his advisors would have. I hope:p
It may have been spontaneous. We will never know. But the following was not. It was well though out. What is the point of the following two statements? Why give the impression that Hinduism and Islam are to be honored.? Both religions are false. Both deny the Trinity.

This one I do not have a problem with.

When one continues to read, I read that although “we” have a different understanding of wht the “light” is, that we hope during this celebration, they will truly have victory of light over darkness. And since we know what the true light is, this is a hope that these people may come to know the joy of Christ, someday.

That is what I read.

This one I find slightly more troubling.

I do like the bulk of the prayer. The Trinity is clearly being invoked.

According to EWTN, it was after the final blessing, but before departing that the pope asked Saint John Baptist to protect Islam…

The thing I find troubling is asking for protection of Islam. I do not have trouble with the pope asking for the protection of all of Jordan and those who participated in the ceremony.

I will have to think on this.

God Bless,
Maria

Again, what is the point? The letter to the Hindu comes from the head of Intereligious dialogue. True, the letter speaks of Jesus as the Light but it puts His Light on equal footing with the Light they understand. Hinduism is a false religion. It worships false gods. This honoring of false religions started with Vatican II.Please read the following keeping in mind that we are talking about a religion that does not believe in the True God but in a false god.

Vatican II NOSTRA AETATE vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651028_nostra-aetate_en.html

“Thus in Hinduism, men contemplate the divine mystery and express it through an inexhaustible abundance of myths and through searching philosophical inquiry. They seek freedom from the anguish of our human condition either through ascetical practices or profound meditation or a flight to God with love and trust".

" A flight to God?" What god? They believe in false gods.
Nostrate Aetate continues:

"Again, Buddhism, in its various forms, realizes the radical insufficiency of this changeable world; it teaches a way by which men, in a devout and confident spirit, may be able either to acquire the state of perfect liberation, or attain, by their own efforts or through higher help, supreme illumination. Likewise, other religions found everywhere try to counter the restlessness of the human heart, each in its own manner, by proposing “ways,” comprising teachings, rules of life, and sacred rites. The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and** holy **in these religions”.

How can Buddhism, another false religion, teach a way to obtain perfect liberation, supreme illumination? Through reincarnation?
What is holy in a false religion? Holliness can come only from the One True God.

It is troubling. Just like kissing the Qu’ran or the prayer day at Assisi or praising Hinduism and Buddhism. I don’t see how any of this could possibly lead to the conversion of these false religions to the Catholic Church. It only makes them feel that their religion is equal. That their religion is true and holy.

To MariaG ~ did you take the time to actually read the entire contents of Mortalium Animos? If you do, you will see for yourself the evidence you seem to sincerely seek… it’s very simple and easy to understand… if i can do it, anybody can… you just have to take the veil off your eyes, my dear friend… :o

Hindus do in fact contemplate the divine mystery. What is false about this statement?

Again, you seem to think that commenting on what is true, it is an endorsement of the false. You are quite simply wrong.

It is similar when a person apologizes for hurting someone’s feelings.

I am sorry for hurting your feelings.

This acknowledgement in no way admits that you were wrong. It simply acknowledges that a person feels sorrow over causing the other pain. It does not matter if it was necessary to tell the person the infomation that caused them pain. It is still appropriate to apologize for being the one to cause them that pain they felt upon hearing the truth.

In the same way, we can acknowledge that Hindu’s, just as every other man, seek God. We are not getting into what is wrong with their religion, but what is right or at least what is right about what they claim to do.

What about the words “may be able” don’t you understand?

Again, this is very similar to the positive affirmation of “no salvation outside the Church”. Just because one MAY go to heaven in no one is saying they will or even giving any indication of how likely that is to happen.

The thing about this is that even after the “may” parts, what is said in the very same paragraph at the end?
Indeed, she proclaims, and ever must proclaim Christ “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to Himself.(4)
The Church is saying that even though you believe all this, and your MAY contain some truth, Jesus is the way.

I disagree.

Yes Daisegirl, I did actually take time to read the entire thing.

And the problem is not that I don’t see what people are likely to think is wrong, but that I disagree with you. And since there are many parts that he could be referring to, instead of pulling out what I think he may be referring to and explaining why I think he is wrong, I prefer to let people just tell me plainly what is being said.

Respectfully,
Maria

What if he didn’t think it was a different God?
I believe they worship the same God; even if it is misguided or made up to create peace. God is God. ALLAH is in Arabic Christian bibles (GOD).

BUT He should not have kissed it.
The second commandment:

"You shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me…"

It also means that we should not honor other religions because our duty as Christians is to spread the Gospel and bring those are lost to God.

Allah is not the same God. God sent His perfect Son down to earth to save us, Allah sent a murderer as a prophet to torment us.

It is NOT the same God because they reject Christ and the Holy Spirit. In fact, in the Koran, Christ does not die on the Cross and Christ is not God’s Son. It is specific in this.

Go to a church in Egypt and ask if Allah is God.

The Allah IS the same as our Christian God. The message from the Muslims is all wrong. BUT the God is not. Just because the quran did not send down Jesus does not mean Allah is not God.
Allah (God) is given credit for the Quran even tho he had nothing to do with it. He was trusted in the middle of this “off” message.

God IS God. No matter how you worship him HE never changes.
HE is consistent and the same sustainer and THE ALL KNOWING.

The word “ALLAH” is Arabic for God in Christian Scriptures of the middle east.
It is used in a totally different connotation in the Koran. You want it both ways. Rejection of Christ is rejection of God’s grace and mercy for us. They do not believe in the same God as we do. I would clarify that they believe in the God of Abraham, but, according to Islam, Abraham was a Muslim.

You should read more!

LOL; He would not be “Christian” by the church’s standards

I guess I should add; You are thinking

Quran does not equal Bible so God cannot = Allah.

That is not how it is; God IS Allah; even tho the Quran is different from the bible. The bible is NOT from GOD/ALLAH. But it does not mean the God it talks about is not GOD.

Princess Diana had many books written about her and many she had nothing to do with; many books are written with lies and that does not stop people from believing them; but they are not from her but inspired by her life because she is real.

Who knows what Muhammad was thinking when he came up with this idea but it worked for him.

God is God

The Quran is more than just “different from the bible”. The Summa Theologica is different from the Bible but its part of Revelation. The Quran isn’t.

The Quran contains heresy and error. God could NEVER be the author of heresy and error.

The Bible is of God.

While Islam has Judaic roots as do we, that doesn’t qualify it as saying that we WORSHIP the same God. Worship is external and INTERNAL. When we worship God we are worshiping Jesus and if Muslims don’t regard Jesus as God then they can’t be worshiping as we do.

You can’t worship God without Jesus.
