What is your definition of Fanatical Catholic?

There are a couple of dozen of those nuts who used to be found howling and screaming outside my local Planned Parenthood – harassing and threatening people who were going for medical advice. They were standing shoulder to shoulder with the handful of “fanatical Mormons” and the fifty or so “fanatical evangelicals”.

Those of us who volunteered inside the building were the normal Catholics, Mormons, and Evangelical Christians, and we often chuckled at our less stable brothers and sisters with the Catholic doctor and Jewish nurse who volunteered to help these women and young families.

That’s just one example.
Well I guess I’m one of those too. I pray in front of the Planned Parenthood facility for the end of abortion. I cannot believe you would volunteer at that place and support such a monsterous act. We are not harrassing anyone. If anyone is getting harrassed it is the “fanatical” Catholics you speak of.

Come on. Calling it “abortuary” is not fair. You know that.

Don’t you think the women, including Catholic, Jewish and Mormon women, can go see a doctor without being bothered?

I’ll be honest and admit that I don’t like the concept of abortion. At the same time, it’s the end result of living in a society which is so riddled with social and economic injustice.

It’s really a horrible, heart wrenching choice. The women who are forced to get an abortion have, to the very last one, considered all their options and have come to their own conclusions. They aren’t doing it in a manner which is cavalier, or simply using it as birth control. They already know what they’re doing. People who scream at them on the street, or phone in bomb threats, are not living in the compassionate way that Jesus would have taught. Jesus loved the individual.

If you really want to end all abortions, then the thing to do is institute a guarantee of a good life for children. People talk about “right to life”, but until we agree that it needs to be a “right to a great life” then we are in no position to judge.
There are a lot of reputable doctors not affiliated with Planned Parenhood. Go see one of them. I don’t buy the lie that women don’t go there for abortion. That is where a majority of the money is from. Abortion and contraceptives are what make of their business if that’s what you want to label it as.

Oh please. First it’s “abortuary” and now it’s an “abortion mill”. Abortions were maybe 2 percent of what they did, and that’s being generous.

This is going to be my last contribution to this topic. I’m going to give you some inside information which will allow you to shut down every women’s clinic in the country. Listen carefully. You could shut down planned parenthood next month with this.

What you do is to convince a relatively large number of women to insist on getting abortions at the expense of charities like PP. You guys seem to believe abortions are common, and people approach them with little or no foresight, so this should not be difficult.

Every time a clinic has to arrange an abortion it puts an incredible strain on the budget. It’s a simple matter of economics. Get 10-20 people to demand abortions in a single week, in half the clinics around the country. The organization itself will go broke immediately, and we’ll be back to coathangers directly.

The reality is that 90% of the time, the fanatics are threatening and assaulting a bunch of kids and young couples who are looking for free condoms and pills. 80% of the remainder are patients who need treatment for venereal diseases (many times because they were told by their religious leaders not to use condoms) or else they’re going to be sterile or permanently disabled.

It’s a whole lot of fanaticism about stuff that amounts to sliding scale medical care, in a country where most of the citizens can’t afford it.
Rediculous idea. Get 10-20 people to have abortions. What about the lives that are lost. We don’t care that planned parenthood is losing money, it’s the innocent children that are lost because planned parenthood disregards them as nothing more than a bunch of cells. You have no idea what you are talking about.

All of this boils down to one single question:

Are unborn children to be considered as humans?

If no - then certainly: Open season.

If yes, then there can be no valid excuse to murder them in cold blood like it is done at abortuaries. Except, of course, you want to allow the same “freedom of choice” after the child has been born. So, a single mom with a two-year old, who “knows” that she’ll never be able to give the kid a “great life” (however that is defined?) should be given the choice of having the child “aborted”, because it would be for the best?

I don’t think that even the most ardent anti-life’ers believe this. That’s how hypocritical their position is.

If unborn children are to be considered humans, then they have the same right to life as you or I have. No “but”'s, no “one must consider”'s, etc. Right to life - period!

Why does the Roman church not excommunicate those from its ranks who participate in this genocide?

People who scream at them on the street, or phone in bomb threats, are not living in the compassionate way that Jesus would have taught. Jesus loved the individual.QUOTE]

Yes, but he hated sin! And killing unborn children is most definately sin!
Jesus also “liked” the Temple - indeed it was He who ordered the construction of the first one! But that did not stop Him from throwing all of the merchants out of the court of the Temple, using words that were…shall we say “slightly confrontational”.

Compassion is NOT looking the other way when a genocide is going on before your eyes.

As the philosopher Voltaire said a fanatic is anyone who backs up their religious beliefs with murder

LaMar- Give up now; you’re fighting a losing battle. Most of the people here want to stick their fingers in their ears and scream things like “abortuary” “abortion-mill” “abortionist” and infanticide at the top of their lungs so that they do not have to listen to reason. Nothing else in the world makes any difference to such people and arguing with them is futile.

Is there such a thing as a “fundamentalist Catholic”? That would be different than ‘fanatical’ Catholic.

I think a ‘fanatical’ Catholic is one who is obsessed with observances in personal devotion and reacts in an obsessive-compulsive way towards his or her religion…everything has to be correct, has to be perfect, one needs to follow prescribed ritual to the letter of the law, one has to practice specific devotions, never deviating from them, etc.And this goes on day after day, hour after hour.

To me, this is not normal and has moreso to do with the religion becomming the focal point of dealing with an obsessive-compulsive mental disorder moreso than anything else. That is the only definition of a “fanatical Catholic” which comes to mind.

That’s OK. Everyone has his or her opinion.

One thing I find particularly interesting…Where do people get the idea that PP makes a profit at anything? People are talking about “abortions are how they make all their money!!”

Is this some new form of propaganda? I wonder where it originates.

Planned parenthood supports birth control and abortion and so it stands in direct opposition to Catholic teaching.

What I found to be very amusing is that a devout Catholic was said to be volunteering at a planned parenthood. I cannot see how anyone comes to the conclusion that this individual is a devout Catholic, especially when they have met them at an organization which is part of something which the Church identifies with the “culture of death”.

Planned parenthood is an evil organization that leads many souls into sin. Regardless of whether anyone sees this as a social service, it is an organization which is so completely devoid of Christ that it stands in opposition to Him by supporting the murdering of the unborn and the reduction of sex to a mere act of intimacy and pleasure.

I don’t think there is such a thing. 😃

**That’s bunk. Planned Parenthood gets approximately $600,000,000 + a year from private, corporate, and government funds to keep it going. Did you see the figure? Look at it again.

You call Planned Parenthood a charity. I know of no charity that finances the murder of human beings through medical/technological means. And the ugly truth about abortion is that the procedure has a higher percentage rate of causing sterility in women or permanently disabling them from having children in the future. The rise of venereal disease in this country is the direct result of ‘charities’ like Planned Parenthood and school-based secular amoral sex education curricula which makes sex ‘fun’ to do and encourages experimentation among the youth.

More and more doctors are choosing not to perform abortions. Those that do, however, are making millions of dollars off of it. PP is an insidious organization that needs to be closed down.**

First since Roe vs. Wade there has been 50,000,000 abortions in this country and that is fact. A whole generation has been murdered. Your 2% is from how many seen? 2% of what in a year? Where do you get your figures?

Actuallly it is the clinics that attack the peaceful pro-lifers. I have been on some of the pro-life marches in the south and we march to the clinic, pray the rosary, and sing songs.
The workers from the clinics come out and taunt, curse, spit at us, take pictures, and threaten to send them to the news media and local papers and I think that is great. Publicity.
They never do though or the media is not interested.

We ask for publicity for the media to film and note what the employees of these clinics are doing when they come outside.

The only reaction from us is that we love them and will pray for their souls. That really seems to set them off. Do you have any idea why.

I have to say though that I did one march with Fr. Pabon and let me say that the 40ft trucks with the pictures of aborted Babies driving around and around the block seem to really get the message across.

The main thing though is that the neighbors of these abortion mills once we are there every weekend seem to immediately dis-like their planned parenthood neighbor. I hear it can really bring down property values. Wonder why? Could it be that it is not a family / friendly oriented business?

Tell me while we are at figures, how many women die each year from these legal abortion procedures in the United States. Another figure to look at is how many of these women will committ suicide or need years of psychiatric help within 5 years of an abortion.

You know finally the word for planned parenthood is free choice.
If they were really choioce they would show an aborted baby at the stage they are having the abortion. Show the baby has a heart beat. Talk about the pschological effects of such abortions.

They should also repair the damage they cause to these women and pay their pschologist bills, repair and pay damages when these abortions cause infertility. Now that will force them out of business.

Does Planned Paarenthood or you tell these women see below?

You know that there is a home for every baby today. That the women will be given housing, food, and medical today for free. That there are adoptive services and churches will help financially after the birth ( J.M.J.)

That there is absolutely no reason for an abortion today unless medically the baby is a definite threat to the life of the mother. such as a Fallopian tube pregnancy.

If you have seen and paticipated in abortions I really do not know how you can sleep at night.

May God have mercy on your soul.

Me…by definitionn when you look up the “Fanatical Catholic” you will find my name and picture with my address and telephone number. I’m the extreme guy that hangs out in crowds praying the rosary once a month. It’s all I have time for these days. But we end up bribing women not to have abortions and take care of needs. Culture of Death is killing this country. Sure its a hard choice to decide whether or not a baby will be terminated. Terminate…clean word for illiminate…which is another clean word for exterminate or in essence reduce life within…haven’t got to it yet…KILL…That’s the word. Old testament does not speak when in the womb…or does it?..It does… So yes, the bible talks about LIFE in the WOMB… Didn’t need to pass through an orfice to be considered life. Obnoxiously put, but all true.

Is this thread about abortion or fanatical catholics?

“Enemies of the Church will show no mercy in there attempt to lead us away from the true path, likewise we must attack with all the stregnth with which we have been given.”
This sounds like it should be understood spiritually, if so, this is correct. Every sin we make is an attempt to lead us away from the true path, and temptation will show no mercy.
The only darkness lies in the hearts of those who refuse the authority of Rome, otherwise there is always some measure of light and where there is light the Almighty sees all.”
There is certainly nothing good in rejecting the authority of Rome, in fact active rejection of Rome is a rejection of the Church. Not a good thing.
The glory and power of the Church cannot be denied, all those who renounce the path of rightousness must be destroyed.”
The glory and power of the Church cannot be denied - all those who renouce the path do not need to be destroyed, they are indeed destroying themselves.
“Those who are prideful and refuse to bow down shall be** laid low** and made unto dust.”
Again, this appears to be in a spiritual context. If so, again, this is true. Those who do refuse to bow down will not be happy on the day of judgment.
“There is no salvation outside the Church.”
Extra Ecclesium Nullam Salus - A tenet of the faith, hardly a form of fanaticism.

Only parts of these quotes appear to be fanatical.

Why I guess that would be me and my family

Monday–Catholic Passover at the Church followed by meal

Thursday - Confession followed by Mass of the Lords Supper at night. Washing of the feet and stripping of the Altar

Friday --Stations of the Cross

Saturday–Morning prayer and distribution of Rosary Beads to missionaries going to Haiti (1300 Rosary Beads).

Saturday Afternoon–Blessing of the food (Easter Baskets)

Saturday Night --Easter Vigil and the witnessing of the initiation of 17 new Catholics with Baptism ,Communion,Confirmation.

By the way all God Bless and Happy Easter–Our Lord is Risen

Is this thread about abortion or fanatical catholics?

thanks, Richie
Hi Richie

I guess you can say devout Catholics like me get fanatical when Abortion is discussed.

Funny how that all melds together — he he he 😃

Due to my work in pro-life and also Jewish-Christian ecumenism, I have learned a lot about Catholic dogma and teaching.

And one thing I do know is that it is a mortal sin of the highest degree for a Catholic to assist in any way with an abortion. Catholics who get an abortion are automatically excommunicated (I believe the Latin is latae sententiae, someone correct me if I’m wrong.)

In Orthodox Judaism, a Jew who converts to another religion of his own free will also incurs automatic excommunication.

So from what I can see, in Catholicism, the grave sin of abortion is comparable to what in Judaism we see as idolatry (converting to another faith of their own free will).

In Orthodox Judaism, we define the conditions for making a sin excommunicable (cherem) the same as Catholics do: it must be a) done of the person’s own free will; b) they have to have known it was wrong and decided to do it anyway, and c) it has to be a very serious crime in the first place (what you guys call mortal sin).

That’s just one example.
A catholic abortion clinic worker here was excommunicated. Of course she was all over TV talking about the clinic and the wonderful things it did for young women. I guess she figured that the bishop, her priest, and her fellow parishoners didn’t watch TV.

Anyway, she chose excommunication over giving up helping women get abortions.

I don’t really know what her true motivation was. It could have been financial. But she claimed it was philosophical. She had a radio show for a short time after that. She has since been pretty much invisible.

I wonder if she still likes the choice she made. (It’s been more than 20 years.)
