Those Pelicans better stay at the back ,I still don’t trust those birds 😠

A few photos from Montana. It was very quiet birdwise.

Flying home, we had a long layover in Seattle so we took the light rail downtown where I saw this nice flock of Barrow’s Goldeneye outside the Seattle Aquarium. This turned out to be my final species of 2018 at #293. I was really happy to see these sturdy little ducks. They breed on high mountain lakes in Montana and used to winter in Glacier NP. I haven’t seen one in a very long time.

I’m not sure what 2019 holds for me. I don’t feel like chasing or playing the numbers game, plus I don’t have any trips planned other than to go to Montana to see my mom as much as possible. That said, I saw 16 species of birds on New Year’s Day. 🙂

I haven’t been here in quite some time and would really like to thank everyone from the point of my beak for their beautiful and awe-inspiring pics of the grandeur of God’s great creation.

I’ve even composed a little speech for the occasion. My apologies, by the way, at the end I forgot some of what I wanted to say…

I still haven’t done any major birding this year and my 2019 list is just a meager 34 species. Turns out I did break my camera slipping on the ice in Montana so no brilliant photography for a while 😒

A mega-rare and possible Arizona first, White-throated Thrush, has shown up in a canyon just south of here. I kind of want to go chase it, but here’s an actual photo (not mine) of the initial group of birders who went out to see this bird. Notice how the tallest guys with the longest lenses are out front.

haha…thanks for the photo, Tad. Sorry about your camera. 😦 You can get really small spike / cleets to put on your shoe if you have to walk on some icy spots here and there.

I suppose the man with the $2000 plus telephoto is a serious birder and photographer. 🤔 What a great way to get some good forearm muscles or die trying.

Lots of birds in the yard …the hens decided it’s a good year to have lots of chickens, now the first batch are free ranging, which is good…but are also finding ways into the garden =not good 😼

It’s almost 9:30 MST, I have the day off, and yet, I’m still at home. I’m fixing to head out here in a few minutes and bird the local wetlands. In the winter, the birds are a lot like me, they don’t like to get active until it warms up a little bit.

I’ve found the battery charger for my Powershot, so I’ll have my little camera with me. We’ll see what presents itself.

More pelicans today (sorry, @Greenfields 😁), one in flight and one in the water

With that said here’s some of my bird photos from last Saturday

An Orange-crowned Warbler. See it’s orange crown? Me neither. You hardly ever do. A better name would be Doesn’t-look-like-much-of-anything Warbler.

Three species of swamp bird. Any guesses?

A very good little mother with the adopted ducklings she hatched out.

All of our backyard birds are frozen with our snow and below freezing weather. On top of that, their wooden bird feeder toppled over in the strong wind and broke. So they’re sad as well. I’m still trying to feed them and promising them a new bird feeder as soon as I can.

Oh!Oh no! I especially love your little robins ,that’s a kind act you’re doing feeding the birds.

Waterhen, grebe and a duck ?
There are two birds in the photo that could be called waterhen depending on where you live. The duck is a Northern Shoveler (of which I’ve always wondered if there is a Southern Shoveler). No grebe. Good guesses though.

Excited to see a Red Squirrel enjoying the bird seed. I think he likes peanuts the best.
