Does that mean I shouldn’t describe the Pterodactyl I saw at Dinosaur Point in northern California?

😄😉

Those are probably Red-winged Blackbirds. Brewer’s are around in the winter, but they’re uncommon. We get a morning lift off of about 20,000 Yellow-headed Blackbirds from their roost in a nearby cement plant. It’s amazing to see. Like a river of blackbirds.

No unusual birds lately ,but there are quite a few black wasps hanging around trees at the moment…they don’t seem aggressive ,but are just flying about doing their own thing .
Somebody flew in my ear a few days ago (some small moth or insect)but flew out while I ran to get the ear drops ,a horrible sensation !

We had a lot of paper wasps building nests under the eaves at my mom’s house for about five years. Then we had the house painted two years ago, and I haven’t noticed so many since then. It’s been raining a lot here, and that often means a lot of extra insects show up later in spring 😠.

Please send some rain over :smiley:It’s gone all hot and dusty again,a few days of 37C …and it’s supposed to be Autumn tomorrow …😤

Rock Wren. It took me a little while to figure this one out. Usually I see them on rocks. This would be 2019 year bird #80.

It has quite a long beak 🤔
I had to shoo a praying mantis out of the house before, and it flew in circles around the veranda light.Last night an owl circled the kitten and I when we went for a walk, such silent wings.

Burrowing owls made the news around here last week, as several have been discovered nesting in the vacant land around Los Angeles International Airport. There used to be houses there, but back in the 1970s the city used eminent domain to buy out the residents and create a buffer of open land around the then-expanding airport. I used to go exploring there as a kid before they fenced it off.

What a great area for you as a kid to explore 🙂 Owl are so special.
The leg less lizard is pretty amazing !

Owls are suprisingly common around here. Of course, I’m near a lagoon, so that might affect things.

In one of the little strip mall areas nearby, an owl set up a nice home by an abandoned light fixture. I say hi to him when I pass by and the owl is “home”.

Virginia Rail from last Monday. They’re usually very difficult to see.

I went out the door ;yesterday morning and heard this American Robin singing from the top of a mesquite in my front yard. This is only the second time I’ve had a robin in my yard in Tucson.

These little Silver eye birds are eating the apples on the tree at this time, along with sparrows, blackbirds, wattlebirds .My friends have Sulphur crested cockatoos demolishing their apples…the birds chew up and disregard the apple with their big beak getting to the tiny seeds inside 😬

Interesting seeing gulls and ravens sitting next to each other. I usually only see them very agitated chasing each other out of their territories.

I thought the same thing when the crows first became a common sight at our beaches here, competing with the seagulls for the trash and food folks leave behind. They just seem to tolerate or ignore each other now.
