Here’s the Northern Parula I promised

And the Sage Thrasher

This is a yearly spectacle in Southern Arizona. I counted 26,000 of these on New Year’s Eve Day last year.

Wow, that’s a very round number. Are you sure it was 26,000 exactly?

What are they?

Pretty close. Once you figure out what a thousand look like, you just go from there.

They’re Sandhill Cranes.

Beautiful. I was thinking they could charge some kind of air fare for mice who want to take a vacation to get away from it all. Would be a good money maker for them.

We actually have a giant roadrunner statue made entirely out of garbage overlooking the highway leading into the city:
I think I know where you live. 😁
I’ve got family out your way. Are you a fan of La Posta?

Big fan of mourning doves too @Milt. I love their cooing during a peaceful, warm day.

Yes indeed and they really seem to really come alive around Easter. They love sunflower seeds too.

Fun Fact: The Rupell’s Griffon Vulture owns the record for highest flyer.

37,000 feet (also, a typical cruising altitude of a commercial jet liner)

(Mount Everest is 29, 000 feet)

Unfortunately, it is on the critically endangered list.

I read in one place that they get an amazingly wide perspective view of the earth down below like a satellite, so they can scope things out for food.

The jets likely fly at that altitude for minimal turbulence and fuel efficiency, etc.

The doves and pidgeons and lovely Milt. Here’s one that frequents our area, my kids and I raised one when it fell out of its nest .It was pretty ugly for awhile though.

It’s interesting that God chose the Dove to represent the Holy Spirit.

They really are gentle birds.
The nests are pretty rickety platforms you can almost see the eggs through, same with the blue cranes here…I don’t know what they were thinking 🙂

I do love birds and rabbits but I wish they were more potty trained. ☺️

The parakeet’s? No way. They are a bunch of loud mouths. A bird should know its place and be quiet when it’s told.
