Driving on a back road this afternoon,very blue sky and bright green crops,there were a group of little Ravens flying lower to the ground .Sure enough ,there was a fox hurrying along with their help.Foxes are introduced and a real nuicence this time of year as the sheep are busy lambing in the paddocks.I won’t mention what Little Ravens get up to when that’s happening,they are real predators though .

I’ve seen those in Yosemite, but not where I live. Plenty of other types of blackbirds here, though.
 
This morning on my walk home from Mass I had a nice up-close encounter with a hawk. I’m thinking it’s a Cooper’s Hawk, which are common around here. This one did not immediately fly away, hence the photo 🙂

Also, one of the hummingbirds is spending more time just perched at my feeder, and has become more tolerant of my presence whenever I approach the sliding glass door, just a few feet away. No photo of him, though.

We have Red-wing blackbirds here in Wisconsin. I used to see them right here in our area. They like open areas and fields.

We don’t see them too much here in our area anymore, due to all of the development that has been going on over the years, but we’ll still see them when we travel around the state in other areas that aren’t as developed.

They’re one of my favorite birds. ❤️

They make such a cheerful sound. It sounds like, “Oh-ka-leee!” LOL! 😀

That’s how you can tell that they’re around, since their call is so distinctive. Plus, when you see them, they’re so colorful and vibrant with the beautiful colors on their wings. 🙂

It’s a real pleasure sometimes to just stand still in a quiet area and to listen to all the sounds,it always surprises me just how many birds are calling.
I was thinking of Christofirst saying this is the land of parrots some time back…when you grow up with somethings you can kind of take them for granted.

On my drive yesterday I saw little bright green grass parrots on the side of the road eating spilled grain from the trucks,rosellas flying in the trees,sulpher crested cockatoos and corellas in flocks in paddocks and on the sides of the roads.

These are really sweet 🙂 They blend in with the landscape though so I don’t always notice them as much .

I think our Muscovy duck brought out at least one duckling.Funny season so far.
 
My brother sent a list of all the birds he could identify, and my reports seeing a nene and a red-crested cardinal this week. Me? I haven’t seen a new year bird for at least a month. I was beginning to wonder what was wrong with me, but I realized back when I was seriously chasing birds, I was also seriously stressed out. Now that I’m mellowed out, I don’t feel the need to get out in the field as much. In a way, these little feathered creatures helped me get through a tough couple of years.

Here’s a red-breasted nuthatch from last year taking bath in a rain water pool on top of a large boulder high up on the San Francisco peaks in AZ.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Not a very clear picture sorry,but two new little ducklings just hatched out .
 
These little birds are often along the back road sides in the country.I used to call them nun birds when I was a kid,and I just read here it’s a common nickname 🙂
