What is your favorite musical

After this revelatory Jeopardy! clue a few nights ago, I may have to give Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express another look:

The Blues Brothers 2000 was good, too. John Goodman is an actor I always enjoy watching, but I never suspected he had such a talent for singing and dancing.

BB 2000 had the greatest assemblage of musical talent on one stage in the ending sequence. It was a veritable look at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Add in the musical acts leading up to the finale, and it was amazing if you like 50’s to 90’s rock n’ roll and rhythm and blues. The plot of the movie and its storyline were lame, but the music was incredible.
 
This is really hard, I think my favourite changes too often.

I think maybe Dr Horrible’s Sing along Blog. But I love Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror, Repo the Genetic Opera, so many others.
 
One day I’d love to see Hamilton if/when it comes to Aus. I haven’t listened to it as I prefer to see them in context but I hear amazing things, I hope not being all that versed in US history won’t hurt.
 
It would probably help if you at least read the basic story of Hamilton before you saw the show.
When I saw it, there were people there who literally did not have a clue about the guy and my impression was they didn’t really know what was going on, since the rap lyrics aren’t entirely clear if you haven’t listened to the soundtrack 100,000 times.
 
When it eventually gets here I’ll read up first 😊 it’ll be a good excuse to learn more about the period.

I can’t imagine being able to make sense of the story if one doesn’t know the basic historical points, and there are a lot of them in this show.

I was really thankful, when I saw it, that the cast was so clear in their annunciation of the lyrics. There’s a lot of humor in there – “Don’t modulate the key and then not debate with me.” 😂
 
Saw Guys and Dolls on TCM yesterday.

Very enjoyable. Silly. But good music.

Loved Brando and Jean Simmons and Sinatra in spite of it all. WHEN it was silly, it was so silly … it was GOOD! LOL.

Per soundtrack, the various versions of “Your eyes are the eyes of a woman in love,” are all really good.

“If I were a bell,” “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat”
 
As a really niche one there was a little musical in Aus about one of our prime ministers; Keating! The Musical. He was a pretty funny politician, well known for his witty comebacks.

 
I rarely watch musicals, but if I were to choose two I’d go for Once More With Feeling and Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blood.

If I was in a ghoulish mood for b-horror I’d suggest Repoman: Genetic Opera.
 
It’s a toss up between Les Miserables and Rent. LOL.

We had a great time, thank you! My son was enthralled with the opening sequence, and during the entr’acte, one of the performers was standing right behind us. My son was so excited. It was really special to watch him
enjoy the show so much.

For me, this particular production was not as good as the last one I saw, but still excellent. They did the stampede scene differently, and less effectively. They also cut out a musical number that’s on the original soundtrack, and added a few short numbers.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I wish it would come back to Denver so my son (now a teenager and theater-lover) could see it. But I’m sorry to hear they’ve changed parts of it, not necessarily for the better.
 
I’d forgotten about Keating … there waa also one about Shane Warne (famous Australian cricket player).
 
Starlight Express is wonderful! It’s usually done on roller skates. Very uplifting and fun. The songs aren’t as memorable as some of ALW’s other musicals, but they’re right for the show.

My daughter and her ice dance partner (at that time) got to wear costumes from the Broadway touring show of SE, and do a promotion ice skating number during a Red Wings (hockey) game years ago. The costumes lit up–it was really cool!
