What is your favorite proof for God?

I will start with a question. Would you knowingly die for a lie? The apostles who saw Jesus risen from the grave did not lie when they said he is risen. Think about it. Would people who taught morality be able to tell a lie like seeing a man who was tortured to death come back to life and be willing to go to their deaths proclaiming that he is risen when he was not? It is a psycological impossablity that they would make up a lie then go on teaching high moral standards then willingly die for it. And then there are all the others who have died rather than deny that Jesus came back to life.
Excellent point!
Here are a few of my favorite proofs:

Miracle of the Sun- could 70,000 people be lying or insane?
Saint’s (e.g. Padre Pio) bodies which have not decayed
Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano along with Shroud of Turin- both have AB blood, an uncommon type (but it is not super uncommon in Palestine) just a coincidence?
And Finally:
The fact that atheists always say that God cannot be proven despite these proofs (+many many more) AND the fact that St. Anslem’s ontological argument was proven mathematically!

Just wondering what is your favorite proof for god and why? Personaly I like St. Thomas Aquinas’ first one, All things in motion are put in motion by a first mover, becuse when I apply this proof to my prayer life or any question about faith or morals it leads me to a deeper understanding. What about you?
I have shied away from speaking of “proofs” of God’s existence, even though it is a commonly used term. Whatever “proof” one is affected by belief in God is brought about by Faith which is derived from God’s grace. To suggest that a “proof” exists strikes me as an in-your-face challenge to non-believers who may not have the Faith necessary to accept any “proof.”

Fr. Aidan Nichols suggests “Approaches to God,” of which he lists six here:

payingattentiontothesky.com/2009/09/09/approaches-to-god%e2%80%99s-existence/

Jacques Maritain deals with the existential and “pre-philosophic” categories of the human mind approaching God – an analogy he describes as “the poetic knowledge of the mirrors of God.” This is a wonderful meditation on the question and shows the innate qualities of the human mind that lead it to the approaches in the first place.

That essay here:

Bible prophecy. Anyone who studies and gather the correct interpretation, can in no way deny Christ.

Maybe this rule of nature is out dated, being as I haven’t been in science class for a couple years, but I remember learning that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Very simply, if that is true, then something outside of this universe had to create all of the matter that is in this universe. But, even more than that, my favorite proof is simply: Life!

My favorite proof is the second law of thermodynamics, Entropy law. That says in short, that the world tends to entropy. Every system will degrate, go to entropy, to chaos, if there is no any Ruler, to put the order. Looking carefully to the world processes, we see many proves of the world going to bad, but never collapsing. SOMEBODY takes care, that not to happen !

My favorite proof for the existence of God comes from Bill Reilly: until the atheists can explain how all that we see around us got here, I’ll come down on the side of the believers.

My favorite proofs for the existence of God are two:

The first one is that I tried to quit smoking for more than two decades, and I couldn’t. I want it to do it on my own, and the one thing I knew is that I couldn’t do it on a Monday because it would be unbearable for me to keep my mind stable enough to perform my duties as an accounting assistant. And I must add the other component of my miracle and that is that when I was very young, I dedicated “Your Song,” by Elton John, to God. So, after that, many times when I was troubled the song would come on, even thoush it waned in popularity in the Houston area in the 80s.

On Monday, June 24, 2002, as I was about to put out the last cigarette I had, I cried to God to please help me quit smoking since I had/ have heart problems. As I was putting out the cigarette I got the feeling that “Your Song” would come on, and the feeling increased overwhelmingly even though the disc jockey was talking and there was no music, not even the intro. Then, the disc jockey stopped talking, and the intro to “Your Song” came on. There is no doubt that God helped me; I have not touched a cigarette since, and I had no problem with the Monday situation. As a matter of fact, a cousin’s husband was killed in an accident that night, and the stress did not make me run for a pack of cigarettes.

The other miracle happened about fifteen miles away from home on the freeway. My car started veering over and sounding like I had a flat tire. Being a person prone to anxiety, I told God that I couldn’t handle a flat on the freeway, that I would lose it. Then I tried to drive as far as I could. Once I got off the freeway and got closer to home, the sounds and veering came again, and I had a flat tire. I had traveled about ten miles.

And how about those times when you’re talking to God and you get this unexpected breeze in your face on an otherwise still night?

I have my proof. I hope you find yours if you haven’t.

God bless,

Its my sense of ‘justice’! I see instantly when a person is deprived of any justice…any fair play and thus I am higher then an insect or other creature that just trots away taking care of himself when one of his own is being attacked by predators! If I have a sense of Justice…then I have been created by a Force that placed that sense inside of me.which means eventual judgement on my behavior here on this crazy planet…the third rock from the sun!!! As TR once said 'there are things I can do,there are things I can’t do…and there are things I simply WON’T do!" amen brother amen…Pas

This is a proof from God’s love.

When I look into the face of my daughter who is four, I know that God made her to live forever.

Well said, Jim. I feel the same way about my son, who is also four. I remember the months leading up to his birth, and it was then that it hit me: we really do take a lot for granted in the world. We expect things to work. We expect a sperm and an egg to combine and develop into a baby. We really have no right to expect that. Yet it happens.

For anyone who’s into philosophy, here’s a collection of arguments for God which I put together a while ago. Personally, I like Lonergan’s best.

My favorite proof is when I visit his House. The serenity and love I feel is sometimes overwhelming. God knows what I need before I even knew there was a need. I have been trying to listen more and accept what He says to me.

My father searched for his son for ten+ years with no luck or leads. Then one day my father was walking down a random street in San Diego and found a paper bag lying on the ground that looked like it was a pharmacy bag. He opened it and it was the medication of my long lost brother. He had dropped it while walking home. He went to the address on the paperwork and was reunited with my brother/ his son. My father died one year to the day later. If that is not GOD working a miracle then I would have nothing to believe in.

That is how I know without a shadow of a doubt that their is proof of God and that he has a plan for all of us!!!

ancient majicks…you have a point. As You can see…what people have listed
as “proofs” are just warm fuzzies.

children are products or reproduction. If God truly made children, then
explain in vitro?

Energy theories, well, I am not a physicist. But i am sure there is
room for debate.

Valentin - Funny you should bring up Entropy because I learned about that in college from a flagrantly homosexual Chemistry professor. I dropped the course because my grades were so bad. I really shouldn’t go around science.
However, it is The Law of Entropy that stuck in my mind and made me praise God out loud when my daughter’s horribly broken arm grew back and then declared by the doctor that it will be stronger than before because of the break.

When I think about all the beautiful expressive order in the world, I know that there is God. DNA is a big one for me. How can anyone live in this present world and not see God? On Easter Sunday I’m going to be with my atheist nephew and I will express these thoughts. He mocked me in an email saying science was true but the “seen and unseen” in the Nicene Creed is ridiculous. I laughed so hard because it’s scientists that prove the “seen and unseen” to be true. Madam Marie Curie who discovered Radium because she felt it to be true more than she could prove it but she kept distilling the ore while other scientists mocked her and her husband.

Anyone know when the Nicene Creed was written? Way before even oxygen was discovered right? (Would like that date by the way?) Talk about an unseen that we depend upon. And another proof of God – every breath we take.

Aquinas’ first proof is disproved by the simple concept of negative infinity. We use it in mathematics all the time, in the case of negative infinity, there need no be a first mover, particles of any description could have always existed.
Actually it’s not disproved at all because infinity is a construct, not a fact. There is no physical interpretation of infinity, positive or negative. Our universe has been in existence for 4.7E+17 seconds, and we have numbers that go well beyond that power as both physical constructs and physical objects.

On topic, my favorite proof is children: from a fetus to birth & beyond, it is quite the miracle.

Just wondering what is your favorite proof for god and why?..
My favorite is the historical proof: he entered time and space and left the marks of his passage.

It’s my favorite for the same reason that I’d rather consume great bread and wine than talk about how they surely must exist.

Personally, my favorite (or favourite) proof for the existence of God is…ME!!! How could anyone love a wretch like me except God. I see His existence in the firmament, in the forces of nature and, let’s not forget, in the faces of those in whom He dwells. Academically and intellectually I would have to cite Pascal’s Pensees as possibly the best source to make out a case for God’s existence. To a diehard atheist, however, no proof will ever be satisfactory or good enough, because “they have eyes, but do not see.” Pseudo-scientists and pseudo-intellectuals always demand something tangible, something that can be weighed, measured and tested in a laboratory setting. Sorry, not gonna happen. God reminds us that our ways are not His ways, and our thoughts are not His thoughts. Unless and until God smacks an atheist or agnostic square in the middle of the backside, they will forever wallow in self-righteousness. All we can do as people of faith is to pray for their conversion of mind and spirit.

Thanks usemelord and I totally agree. Another favorite proofs for God is the miracle of Conversion and the power of prayers for those persons who need it. Scott

I was blessed to have the opportunity to disect a cadaver in anatomy lab. Seeing the incredible and miraculous way all the different tissues and organs come together to form a human being showed me that we are truly miraculously made. Even more, to be able to see a brain and know that in some way the thoughts, personality, and behaviors of that person were contained there was awe inspiring. Without the soul to animate the body it is essentially different, like a garment that has been take off and laid on a bed. To know that all that came from a single cell and differentiated into all the different tissues and grew from the size of a pin point into an adult human was really amost beyond comprehension. How that miracle happens baffles me and my mind can hardly contain the wonder of it. I’m afraid I’m not expresing my awe very well because to me it is beyond words.
