No problem! Catholics are used to persecution! The attack on Catholicism by progressives and liberals will fail. The gates of Hell shall not prevail!

At the end of 2005 I left the Evangelical church of which I’d been a member for several years because the worship had turned into a concert. I initially looked for another church within the same denomination but when I realized that the whole denomination was headed in same direction of relevance over reverence I changed denominations. The same thing began to happen there so I went searching again and eventually I discovered Orthodoxy and the ethereal beauty of the Divine Liturgy. Then I became an Orthodox Christian – lex orandi, lex credendi.

One of the things of which I’m acutely aware and which I haven’t seen mentioned yet on this thread is the pain that is caused to those in churches who are usually labeled as “conservatives” or “traditionalists.” These are the people who are denied the peaceful serenity of closeness with God during corporate worship because of the changes brought about by those usually labeled “progressives." In my case, I was a SOLO Scriptura advocate so the doctrinal issues were in my own hands. Nevertheless, as well as being an adult Sunday school teacher I’d also been asked to assist with teaching children and when I left I missed those children very much. In fact, on the first Sunday morning my wife and I went looking for another church, I was so overcome with sadness that I wept.

I have been searching for a less traditional church for some time. I have a question. I’ve found one with a Lifeteen Mass every Sunday. It is attended I’ve been told by all ages who find it uplifting and spiritual. Is it right to assume this parish is not traditional or is that too big a leap to assume?
 
You’re not going to find the Life Teen Mass in a “Traditional” Catholic Church, so you’re probably safe to assume it’s a more progressive one.

Thanks Erin. Is there a difference between a “teen Mass” and a Lifeteen Mass? I’ve also seen a couple parishes with “teen Masses”.

They’re just non affiliated, but it’s usually the same deal, with the inappropriate music. Sometimes they’ll have a “youth Mass” once a month, which might mean it’s a teen choir, and teen ushers, but typically when they say teen, there will be some kind of abuse.

Thank you. Yes a parish near me I see has a “teen Mass” on the 3rd Sun of the mo. It sounds like the kind of “deal” which might uplift rather than abuse me. Christ is present there too. Peace and God bless.
 
The problem with the “teen Mass” and “Life-Teen Mass” are not the teens, but the adults. I don’t think the teens organized the Mass on their own. Who were the “responsible” adults and priest who allows all these abuses? Adults… Failure of adults to catechize the teens in the meaning of the Mass.
I have been to some of these Masses, only because of a special function that I was invited to and didn’t want to not make a presence. I saw the “teen” choir; guitars, bass, electric pianos, (oh and there was a beautiful pipe organ to the side that I understand is seldom if ever used) drums, tamborines and ALL of the musicians were at least 40 years old. Not a single teen and these people were all rocking back and forth. I also saw many adult mothers (sorry ladies but I saw mostly women) doing all sorts of hand gestures to the “alleluia” , jumping up and down and only a few teens. The founder of these teen Masses was no teen himself. To me its something that was forced on the teens to make them “feel” wanted and to get that fuzzy-wuzzy feeling during the Mass. Instead of explaining the Mass, adults do wrong by trying to keep teens from growning up. Hey, you’re a teen only a few years. At 18, you are no longer a teen and if children are introduced to these “teen Masses” at an early age, they will continue to remain teens all their lives.

I remember as a child we used to have a “childrens mass”. The altar boys were younger but the Mass was still the Mass and no nursery ryhme music. Then as a teen or young adult, we had a young adult mass, but the mass will still the same, but with young men as altar server and no rock and roll music.

I dont see any “adult Masses” with the music being the Perry Como style of music, or with the Big Band Sound, ala Benny Goodman, to make the old fogies like me feel comfortable.

I dont see “childrens Masses” with “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, or “Lullably” music boxes for music to make the children feel comfortable.

Why should it be any different for teens?

I thought you said all the mucisians were 40+ and not a single teen. But of course 18 and 19 are still teens. I don’t understand though why it is so important for everyone to receive Christ under the same music. 🤷 Peace.

Don’t you DARE attend your local Society chapel, however these “Masses” are perfectly fine and have full diocesan approval. Enjoy!
 
It’s approved by the Church, so for now, why hate it?

If the Church revokes its approval, then of course oppose it.
 
I’d rather have a root canal than attend a Life-Teen Mass… or any Mass where the adults try to make Mass “cool” and “relevant” and only succeed in making it “lame”
