I already stated that I know my views are not in accordance with Catholicism. You can easily be committed to another person and care for him or her without being married. After all, do you only start to really care for the other person after you are married? Also, you ask why wouldn’t one just get married. To that I reply: Why should one get married if all is well?

I already told you my point of view and your statements are irritational and completely make “NO SENSE.”

I believe that God put both man and woman on this earth to “be fruitful and to multiply”, not just to live to gether to have fun.

No matter what you say or think, you are living in “SIN.” and you will be accountable for this on judgment day. I am not judging you, but telling you the Church’s teaching on this matter of concern.

It simply is “wrong” and you are living in sin. Ask any priest and he will assure you of the same thing.

You are of age of reason, and if you think that is right, good for you.

I am not in the position to judge anyone, but I think you know that it is sinfully wrong. I have nothing more to say because you are determined to do what you have been doing, so why even ask for opinions? May God bless you in your efforts and since our bodies our in the Holy Spirit, you are sinning against God and the Holy Spirit because our bodies are temples of the Lord. Please do not ask me to respond, because as I said previously, you have your mind determined to live this way, so why would you want my advice?

I TOTALLY understand what you are going through in asking this question. Too often, Catholic adults assume that because I said so does the trick every time. Somehow, being told I was living in sin did not phase me. Are we not all sinners? I was advised by too many people who never told me why premarital sex was wrong. When you know you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, it is easy to believe that sex before marriage is ok. However, the Church views sex as a renewal of marriage vows. That’s a renewal…after marriage : ) Today’s culture battles this view visciously. Not only do people desecrate this holy union, but things like college and cruddy jobs get in the way. It is frustrating when you and your bf/gf decide you are ready to be married, and your parents tell you you don’t have enough money. : P I highly recommend that you and your significant other talk about marriage. Don’t fear it. If it is God’s plan for you, embrace it. Also, don’t be afraid to talk about sex with your SO. You do not want to spend your wedding day fretting about something that is supposed to be wonderful. Talk about your plans for raising a family. There doesn’t have to be a formal conversation. When you think of something, just bring it up. If and when you get engaged, you and your fiance should read Holy Sex! together. It talks about the Church’s teachings on marital relations (they may not be as stiff and old fashioned as you think). Good luck with your journey in faith.

much love,

Where is the permanence in your scheme to protect each partner?

Also an excellent book is: “Sex God” by Robert Bell.

The passion, warmth, beauty, and fire of sexual relations are like that of a burning fire in a fireplace. Once outside of their natural boundaries, both sexual relations and fire will destroy
the individual, people around them, and everything you have and own. This is the devastating effect of sexual passions outside of the natural bonds of marriage…

this kind of overblown claim (my guess is that if the above were true, most people and all their things have already been “destroyed”, possibly more than once) and weak analogy is why the morality tale Reefer Madness had the opposite of its intended effect.

if you’re going to tell a teen, for example, that premarital sex is bad because he or she isn’t emotionally ready for it, there’s a risk of disease, or other realistic consequences, that’s one thing. but to claim that french kissing (see other threads, where this is apparently regarded as a sin) will result in total destruction, and when it doesn’t actually happen or happen right away, you’ve lost all credibility.

what a 40 year old would make of that claim is altogether something different, but, at minimum, it will involve chuckling.

I also recommend The Truth About Sex and Marriage for reading. It is a great book on the topic.

You know…that Ephesians reading was the one we chose for our first reading at our wedding, and people were shocked! They couldn’t believe that I, little miss independent, was so willing to submit to anything. It made us laugh, because the people who didn’t get it were my friends who aren’t very religious. It made me smile when I saw you post it.

Where is the permanence in your ceremony and papers?
Come on now really …From the Rite of Marriage: “Will you love and honor each other as man and wife for the rest of your lives?” …" …join your right hands, and declare your consent before God and His Church" …“I will love you and honor you all the days of my life”.

I wished I had never gone there. I believe because I did, I created a chasm b/w myself and God and gave Satan an opportunity to attach himself to me, and now older and wiser, I am trying to remove his clutches and influence from myself and it is hard.

Plus it kind of gave my ex husband an influence in my life and and opportunity to attach him to me, and hence I ended up marrying him and now am divorced. Because I moved away from Christ’s teachings, and hence I moved away from him, and thus when I married I was only a lukewarm Catholic who didn’t truly understand this spiritual side of love and God. Now I am a divorced Catholic. I really should have listened to my mother because she listened to God.

Actions speak louder than words.

Laws of God aren’t debatable and it is still intrinsically a mortal sin.

The way Scripture handles fornication is interesting. It seems to implicitly show reserve tolerance in it’s practice especially in the early years of OT (Lev,etc). In these same years laws were enacted to satiate overactive libidos, or, to downplay the processes of lust into a special category that is more palatable socially. (plural marriage, etc. “Now that I can have another wife my flirting can be explained by a process in the courting ritual”.) Later in NT, the Apostles giving advice to the Faithful in regards to fornication always come in a pleading tone, or appeal to reasoning, or suggestion.

Any caught in deviant sex(including sexual immorality) are handled swiftly, sternly and are outcast. The reader immediately notices the special handling and there is no attempt to make it less obvious. The point missed by these Prophets is that they equally sever friendship with God. An ideal opportunity to make this evident are put aside, political correctness even then.

How does the church allows people to even get married in the church. I know at least 6 couples that have been married in the church and they had premartial sex.3 of the couples lived together. Someone please explained .

How does the church allow people who have premarital sex get married in the church. Well, I have known people who live together, but when they meet with the priest, they are not going to admit it. Perhpas they confessed it sacramentally and were forgiven. I can assure you that not any couple is going to tell the priest they are having pre-marital sex.

I personally know one priest that if he knows the couple are living together, he will not marry him and I congratulate him on that. They are just making a mockery of the church!

I had a friend of mine who told me she was pregnant, but never told the priest, so, in essence, who was she fooling? She got married and a few months later, her husband left her.

If only that were true here in Spain!! My wife´s uncle is a priest and he married my brother-in-law after they had been living together. He was well aware of this situation; he´s his uncle!!! I tried to explain to my wife´s brother that marriage in a church was pointless if they were unwilling to obey God from they very beginning. They told me they were getting married in the Catholic Church because the wedding photos looked better.

My experience of catholic weddings is generally a dismal one. Most priests seem to have given in to social pressure, and assume that immoral behaviour is inevitable. I think they are afraid of losing customers, so they adapt their gospel to suit their audience. Remember “THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT”.

As I have expounded numerous times, a priest will do what he wants to do. Some do not even listen to their bishop.

In your case, " the customer is NOT right does not apply to this situation in the church, it is a matter of disobedience to the authority of his bishop.

Not to be judgmental, but, you can go to one priest for advice and you will receive a different answer from each priest. Why? When they all had the same training. They should be representing the church and not their own personal opinions as most do.

It is no wonder the Catholic Church in in a MESS!!!

before I became Catholic I had it countless times with many people and I can honestly say it was a pointless waste of time and it literally makes me sick that I did it.

Ok so I have somethings I need answered. For starters I have just recently found the catholic faith and was confirmed in April. I feel as though it was a great step in my life and have really never felt more spirutal as I do now. My gf is a “cradle catholic” as I have heard it refered to as. We have been dating for 4 wonderful years. Recently she has decided that we should no longer have “adult relations” as she feels that she is going to hell if we do ( is that true??). Now both of us have been married before and neither one of us have intentions of being remarried. Had this been a stipulation before we started dating I would understand, but to just decided it can no longer happen 4 years later, well I really don’t know what to think. I just don’t know what to do??? I want to support her and if thats what she wants then ok. However I know I can not go my entire life without adult relations. I can honestly see myself with her for that long, I am very committed, madly in love with her, and would lay my life on the line to protect her, BUT I have no desire to be married to do it. I just had a bad marriage before and I don’t want another part of it.
