I am curious about how you see your priest? Answer the above poll and feel free to comment. Do NOT give names or parishes. I would just like to hear how you see us.

Well, we have one passtor and 2 pastoral vicars, I see the pastor as a short man in his 60s, stern demeanor. I see the other two as young guys just out of seminary with a sincere desire to serve the spiritual needs of the community.

I couldn’t pick one.

For the most part he’s solid, orthodox and faithful, but there is one thing at the Mass that he’s doing against the GIRM and we have glass chalices.

The priest that helps out follows the GIRM completely (but of course we have glass chalices).

We have one pastor and a small town parish… he is a wonderful priest. Very by the book and orthodox… And, very verbal about it, which doesn’t always make some of the progressive parishenors happy, in fact we have lost some. He has a beautiful singing voices, his mass has moved me and many others to tears more than once.

effiminate?

Do you mean effeminate? I hope you’re not asserting that most heretical or disloyal priests are effeminate.

My priest is for the most part very orthodox. Our Bishop has given him a hard time about it though:nope: God Bless

I voted for #1 but with a disclaimer. My pastor (the only priest at our parish) is very orthodox and mostly follows the GIRM and other litugical norms. He skips the Sign of Peace, entirely, not just the “share with each other” part.

I have never known him to be mean but he is sometimes arrogant and impatient. Not the Bing Crosby type. 😃 He is also no-nonsence with regard to morality which annoys most of the parish (abortion, birth control, pre-marital sex, missing Mass - all sins mentioned frequently in homilies).

As tough as it is to hear what he says sometimes, it is good medicine. For 20+ years, I had nice, “pastoral” priests but I didn’t have a clue where they stood on anything.

What is your priest like? He is a thow-back to the 50s. The only negative is that he seems to have his clique whom he acknowledges.

MY QUESTION for “cestudei”. Father, what annoys you about the laity?

We have the Monsignor (our pastor), two preist, and a deacon. They are all very Orthodox and faithful! I am very lucky to live in such a great Parish.

My pastor is an academic (he has his doctorate). He was pulled from acadamia to serve as a parish priest. I think he would be much happier as a college professor. He gives great sermons. But, you always get a sense of his awkwardness when it comes to dealing with parish activities and the like. In short, he pretty much avoids parish activities and many of our activities have ceased because of this.

I like the very personable type of pastor who is willing to role up his sleeves and take an active part in Church activities. Our former pastor was a carpenter and one of 9 children (he has a brother who is also a priest). He built many of the wooden decorative accents in our church. At one of our church auctions I purchased a child’s doll rocker that his father (a carpenter, also) had built and I cherish it. At our parish festivals he would be out there collecting the trash and helping out. I once had a friend look stunned when she realized the guy carrying the garbage can and broom was the priest, LOL This priest left to become the vocations director for his order.

I like our new pastor. But, I can’t help but feel sorry for him.

I agree, the latter priest seems more like a ‘shepherd’ for the flock than a ‘rabbi-teacher’ type. We are fortunate as our priest is very involved, hands on, jumps right into whatever task is necessary. In my former life as a Protestant, I had a ‘talking head’ type of pastor and while his sermons were great, we couldn’t get him interested in anything else. He was very professorial and while I think his gift was in preaching rather than doing or coordinating the doing, we really felt the lack of support for church programs. It’s great to hear about all of the good priests out there. All you read in the paper would lead you to believe otherwise.

The older one is verry traditional. He is okay with old people. but not very good with kids or teenagers like me…bit boring really.

The younger priest is a bit more up to talking to us kids …i mean he’s got slightly messy spikey hair…and looks like someone you could actually go and talk too.

Father Illo is faithful and kind, he has a fabulous sense of humor and uses himself as examples of how we can fail in our pursuit of perfection in everyday situations. He is not perfect - he tried to start an AA meeting when he is not an alcoholic - but he is a good and solid priest. 🙂

I’ve been looking at these guys for years and I still don’t know. Their homilies seem like so much fluff…God loves me, I’m forgiven, let your light shine…don’t know what they’re saying. They’re nice enough but a little distant. I suspect they’re not orthodox but I’m not sure.

Again I ask, is this a Jesuit thing?

Our Priest is very Orthodox, but can be a bit grumpy. He has back problems and sometimes he hurts so much that we have to have a Priest from a Byzantine Rite church come and serve the mass in his place (which is quite fun, he reads everything straight from the Magnificat and crosses everything backwards…). Anyway, we forgive his sometimes grumpyness, he has a valid reason. And is generally a very nice man.

Our Priests are nice enough…for the most part follow the GRIM
But I couldn’t check any on the poll .

Last Holy Thursday Fr went against the directive from the Bishop and included women in the foot washing…then the whole parish proceeded to participate in the foot washing. I didn’t participate…

I have the best priest in the entire universe. Fr. Jeff Grant is the priest for St. Patrick’s Parish in Decatur, IL. He’s completely faithful to the Magesterium and to the Bishop. He’s extremely nice and good-natured, never says a bad thing about anyone, never complains, and has a great sense of humor. He works two parishes and celebrates three masses every Sunday. He’s a lot of fun to be around and everyone in the parish loves him. If the world had more priests like him, the world would be a much better place.

As a kid in Catholic school, they were distant, and strict disciplinarians.

As an adult, some are brilliant and effeminate intellectual fence sitters who will not take a stance on any issue. Not very good leaders.

I was kind of amused at this choice because it described our priest at former parish to a T. I didn’t connect his heretically view to his effeminate look and mannerism I just thought it was his personality.

Our priest at our current parish is as solid as a rock, faithful to Rome and gives homilies on contraception, confession, and vocations regularily.

We have three (or more, depending upon visitors!) that serve our parish (very large military Catholic community) - all are wonderful and bring a different personality flavor to the parish.

The funniest thing is one enjoys playing hockey and says he does pretty well - no one wants to check a priest! 😛
