Abortion

Death Penalty

Middle East

Israel

Gun Control

Enviroment.

I’ll go first

Abortion is wrong.
Death Penalty has its purpose.
Middle East needs to get away from being run by religious groups and become more of a republic.
Israel has a right to exist.
Enviroment we should take care of it, but we have very little impact on the temperature of the earth.

Abortion: Is the murder of a human being.

Death Penalty: As fair and as necessary as even I think it is, we do not have the right to take human life. We usurp God’s right of (a) working a conversion in the person’s soul and (b) choosing when someone’s life on earth should end. Besides, even the best criminal investigations sometimes make mistakes.

Middle East: There will never be peace in the Middle East as long as the Great Abomination sits upon the Temple Mount.

Israel: Israel has a right to exist. Notwithstanding the fact that God gave that land to the Jews, why should they not be entitled to a homeland?

Gun Control: Yes!!! It’s ridiculous that so many criminals have guns. Very few people actually need to have a gun, and those who do should have a thorough and extensive background check.

Enviroment: **It’s the only environment we have. If we don’t protect it now, we won’t be able to create a new one. Besides, the wanton destruction of God’s creation is a sin.

**

An intrinsic evil to be stopped.
Death Penalty
Warranted in some cases but as currently as practiced in the US I would support ending it.
Middle East
Let them have the self-determination to settle their own differences. Stop all foreign aid to Islamic countries.
I personally would give material support to ensure Israel can defend itself from its neighbors though I wouldn’t force someone else to.
Gun Control
Practice makes a better marksman giving better control. Enforcment of current law would suffice to limit access to criminals.
Enviroment.
Is for our use and exploitation as noted in Genesis, but good stewards of the land would sustain and protect what are finite resources as we use and exploit them.

Murder of a human life. Undecided on what to do when the woman will die otherwise, think the best thing to do is remove the baby without killing it and if at all possible try to keep the baby alive, though this may not be possible in ectopic pregnancies where the embryo cannot survive anyway
Death Penalty
Always wrong if done as a revenge method and totally unjustified after any crime in a country with the possiblity of life imprisonment; let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Should only ever be used if it’s the only way to stop serious harm to others, though I suppose that is more self defense
Middle East
Stop all unprovoked warmongering from the West against Middle Eastern countries. Use other methods to encourage countries to secularise, or at least stop stonings and other punishments against religious ‘apostates’ and raped women, while still encouraging their own unique culture (i.e. don’t force western culture on them). Sanctions against Saudi Arabia until they allow practice of other religions.
A very dangerous country that has no right to exist in the current form without being racist, as the whole point of Zionism is that Jews are intrinsically superior to Palestinians which I disagree with as St Paul wrote that the Church is the new Israel and also that there is no longer Jew or Gentile. Also even the Jewish Talmud says Israel is not to be regained by military means and that’s what happened Thus they are quite simply land stealers and racist oppressors of those denied basic rights. However, since a lot of the Jews have lived there a long time they shouldn’t be chucked but instead they should allow the ones there to stay but give full citizenship of a unified secular Palestinian state to both the Jews and Palestinians with full right of return to Palestinian refugees and the end of the wall of the West Bank. Maybe even unify the country with Jordan. End every single penny of funding and call a trade embargo on the country til they remove their appartheid policies and allow basic himan rights to Palestinians
Gun Control
Unless you’re a farmer, hunter or live in an area with bears or other large animals you don’t need a gun so ban them except for to those people and then have a strict licensing system and restrict the types of guns available
Enviroment
Protect it well, including reduction of oil and the phasing out of it in cars (look at other methods like electricity) and move towards more environmentally friendly energy sources. Enforce more recycling programmes and have recycling bins in public for things like cans

Abortion
Is always wrong, and needs to be stopped - and won’t be until we address a slew of other issues, including an excess of sexuality in our culture, and a hard look at contraception.

Death Penalty
Is always wrong.

Middle East
I firmly believe that all people want to be free. We need to look for ways to reach across cultures and learn from each other. We also need to end the massive inequalities that contribute to the foment of radicalism.

Israel
They have a right to exist, and so do the Palestinians. We need a two-state solution with Jerusalem as a city-state like the Vatican open to ALL peoples.

Gun Control
Handguns should be illegal. If you want a gun, you need to go through massive background checks and training. Children should never have access to guns - you can’t vote, you can’t shoot. Sorry, high school deer hunters.

Enviroment
We need to fix it. Now. Our children will thank us. Stop buying stuff and start saving energy.

Y’all are gonna run me through the wringer for all this 😃 .

It’s murder. Most of the mothers who have abortions do so under duress, and often by the time they grasp the meaning of it they are actually anestetized and can hardly think or move, so they are not guilty of premeditated homicide exactly. Their culpability varies from case to case. But the abortionists are guilty at least of manslaughter or something close and a woman of normal intelligence who has full information and full freedom who repeatedly aborts wthout any health issue to constitute a mitigating factor is also guilty of manslaughter. If the woman’s life is endangered by the pregnancy I think it should remain legal but only if the doctor makes a well-documented good-faith attempt to find a way to save mother and child. If an abortion must take place to save the mother’s life, which would be extremely rare if the doctor truly examined every possible way to save both, I believe the law should require anesthetic for the child as well as the mother. I’m sick to my stomach at the notion that a baby can be torn limb from lib with no anesthesia.
Death Penalty
It’s very hard to say what I think about it. On one hand, life is not man’s property to give or take away, it’s God’s. On the other hand, I know what some people do to the innocent and  On the one hand again, when two men rob a store or whatever, they are tried separately and the “brains” of the job usually gets a few years and parole and the flunkey, who is very often mentally slow, gets the chair. So it’s unfair. One the other hand again, though, a man like Ted Bundy or Ed Gein or Charles Manson or Jeffrey Dahmer or Paul Bernardo… to live knowing your child was killed in such sickening ways for such sickening reasons by someone like that, and that the killer is sitting in the weight room right now or eating his dinner on your dime… It seems so unfair then too, so it’s a tough call. Maybe just for serial killers, not store robbers.
Middle East
A big mess. Probably someone’s fault. No one understands it. A little democracy in the region might catch on. It’s an easy taste to acquire. But the cultures over there seem to have a harder time getting into freedom than we have. I hope we don’t destroy ourselves and the whole world trying to untangle it.
Right to exist. Special place in the world. They have the same political rights and responsibilities as every other country regardless.
Gun Control
Too easy to lose all rights once we give up the right to bear arms and to defend ourselves.
Environment.
Important. It’s going fast, too. We need to be less greedy and wasteful. We need to hold companies accountable for pollution and waste and try to limit our individual contributions to those problems. I used to try harder. I guess I could try harder again.

Abortion=murder

Death Penalty=murder, but the Catholic church allows it,

Middle East=need to convert. We need to pray more.

Israel=one teeny country surrounded by enemies. Yikes! Unlikely that it will survive. (Need to pray more)

Gun Control=guns scare me but are a constitutional right

Enviroment=so bored with the subject my eyes roll back in my head every time it’s brought up. .

God bless, Annem

Environment. We need to be good caretakers of the blessing God gave us. This means using the blessing and lessening our dependence of any one type of fuel.

Abortion - an intrinsic evil that destroys the earthly life of a child and the spiritual life of the mother and all those who advocate for it.

Death Penalty - Advocacy against the death penalty as an appeal to clemency & mercy and part of a Catholic witness to a Culture of Life.

Middle East - Support Solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land

Israel - everyone has a right to exist. No Nation, friend or foe, should be allowed to abuse it’s citizens or neighbors.

Gun Control - more laws needed for responsible ownership and keeping guns out of the hands of children, criminals and domestic violence abusers.

Enviroment - We are commanded by God to be good stewards and care for the earth all the animals and those who live here. We are commanded by God to refrain from gluttony and greed (usurping the worlds resources). Automobiles & Industry contribute to higher C02 levels in the atmosphere which harms the environment.

Immigration - more availability of legal avenues needed, more protection for family solidarity & reunification, better treatment of people based on their inherant dignity and rights as children of God,

Always has been and always will be intrinsically evil.
Death Penalty
Always was accepted as legitimate by Catholic Church.
Middle East
Unfortunately Muslims too numerous to conquer or convert within our lifetime. If they hit us first, hit them back harder. No “nation building”, though.
Got no beef with devout Jews. Israel, however, was founded and is run by the same atheist Jews who gave us Marxism, anarchism, the atom bomb, and Hollywood. They got plenty of money. If they want our technology, they can buy it like everybody else. No foreign aid.
Gun Control
The only thing preventing a totalitarian tyranny in this country is the knowledge that the American people are heavily armed.
Enviroment.
Even a bird knows enough not to foul its own nest. Having said that, it’s also necessary that we practice moderation.

Abortion - should be illegal

Death Penalty - too arbitrary in application, degrades those forced to ‘do the deed’

Middle East - diplomatic relations and trade are better than war. The U.S relationship with will always be usatory.

Gun Control - all for it. Why should anyone have the right to own a semi-automatic military weapon, no questions asked. Why should my right to life be infringed on by someone else’s freedom.

Environment - ‘stewardship’ does not involve mass deforestation and endless monocrops pasted with pesticides.

Abortion=murder

Death Penalty=murder, but the Catholic church allows it,
The Death Penalty is not murder.

Murder, according to dictionary.com, is the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder).

Abotion: Mixed, but there at least some legitamet reasons to have one, oh like say maybe, TO SAVE A MOTHER’S LIFE. However, i also feel that a person should not be made to be a slave to their biology.

The Death penalty: It is no deterrent to crime.

Middle East: we should be out of it it is a cesspool of Islamic murderers.

Israel: Very pro-Israel.

Firearm control: completely against in any way shape or form. But I do not like them so I won’t own one.

Enviroment: Conservationist.

Essentially, to me civil rights and liberties are what are important, and people should ahve above all else.

Nice I liked that you added Immigration to the mix.

I agree there should be more legal avenues to become citizens. I however have issue with someone who breaks the law in order to get here and get work here. I have seen lives ruined by illegal immigrants who get false ID’s and SS#'s that are often times stolen. I have dealt with that first hand. So I am kind of biased when it comes to that.

This was an interesting mix.

I am really enjoying this. Its fun to see others views. It would be interesting to start a thread that expalined how you got to these views.

Abortion
Bad. But those who get them are to be pitied, not demonized.

Death Penalty
Rarely necessary and usually unjust.

Middle East
It’s hot and has lots of oil.

Israel
It’s hot and doesn’t have oil.

Gun Control
There are not such thing as dangerous weapons, only dangerous men. ~Robert Heinlein

Enviroment.
I like breathable air and water that doesn’t cause cancer. I say we protect it.

Here are my views on my topic, whatever they may be worth.

Abortion: Just another form of murder and should be treated as such.

Death Penalty: It is wrong in most cases, and probably all the cases in the USA. The Church justifies the use only when the individual in question poses a significant risk to others. That is hardly the case anymore considering how prisons have advanced in the last century.

Middle East: We need to get off of oil and just leave the Middle East alone. We propped up the Shah for decades, and what could have been a slow transformation into a democracy turned into a full blown religious and nationalistic revolt. We have tried to make peace in the ME, but it has resulted in millions of refugees, and many countries anger over the problems associated with them. The Middle East was rather peaceful under the Ottomans, and only has become dramatically violent when faced with foriegn aggression, so we should just leave them alone, and eventually the countries will democratize.

Israel: It should not have been created in its current state, but too late for that. Israel has to recognize that genuine peace lies has to come through honesty, hope, and forgiveness. While it has been the target for agression, things have changed, and now it’s the principal source of conflict. A few simple actions could result bring much better relations with the countries around Israel : Israel should coordinate with Jordan and Syria to stop the actions of Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel should give back the nuclear weapons we gave for in exchange that we’ll protect them, and Israel should kick out not let the Orthodox Jews (The minority who actually consider Reform Jews as heathens) out of power. These actions will go a long way to make peace in the ME. Israel would still have military supremacy, but Syria and Iran would certainly calm down and might be willing to work with them.

Gun Control: Guns are a right as guaranteed by our constitution, and there are plenty of quick and easy ways to ensure that either felons or the mentally unstable do not get their hands on them.

Environment: We have to be proactive in dealing with C02 emission, gas use, chemical spills, etc. God made us the stewards of Earth, so it’s high time we start acting like it.

Immigration: Our immigration authority is in a sad state and we should quickly streamline the process to citizenship and immigration. While millions violated our laws by entering this country illegally, these people are our brethren. So we must treat them with compassion, and the only way to do that now is to give them access to citizenship.

Abortion - should be a crime to procure or to provide an abortion. This is the single most significant issue in American politics and jurisprudence.

Death Penalty - should be applied more systematically for heinous crimes.

Middle East - We will be unable to nor should we in any case abrogate our role in the region. We should continue to try to steer events and to project our influence over allies and adversaries. We will and should base American troops in Iraq, just as we do in Germany for the same reasons we did during the cold war. Iran is the single greatest threat in the region and must be prevented from arming itself with nuclear weapons. We are in a hot war with Islamic fundamentalists whether we like it or not. We should act accordingly.

Israel - Our alliance should continue. Palestinian groups should be given a seat at the table only to the extent they do not promote terrorism and are not tied to terrorist organizations.

Gun Control - Second Ammendment.

Environment - Legitimate interests in preserving the environment should not be coopted by those seeking to redistribute wealth on a global basis under a green mantle. Ludite, reactionary environmental policies should be abandoned in the favor of the need for reasonable and responsible growth and development. We should be utilizing our natural resources wherever we find them.

Immigration - Illegal immigration should be ended. This would involve stopping it at the southern border and prosecuting employers whose hiring practices promote it. As a rule, illegal immigrants found in the country should be deported, although consideration must be given to individual situations along humanitarian lines. The path to legal immigration and quotas should be liberalized to satisfy both our need for labor and interest of our southern neighbors in immigrating.
