I like to stir the pot as much as the next guy but this getting a bit ridiculous… What do you get out constantly starting these threads that pit Mormons vs. Catholic? Seriously enough already…
I see no hostility on that site toward catholics. However, there is a good christian lesson in respect for a differing belief on that site.

I think that we can all learn from it. 🙂

There are good and bad Catholics, good and bad Mormons, good and bad Protestants, good and bad atheists, good and bad Hindus, good and bad Bhuddists… etc.

Heck, there may even be some good Scientologists out there! 😛 (That’s a joke, btw.)

No religion or church has a monopoly on “good people” or “bad people.” 🤷 We’re all children of God, and we’re all sinners.

ETA: whyme, you may want to edit your thread title, as there’s no way one single forum thread can accurately reflect the opinions of every single Mormon. I’m sure there are some anti-Catholic Mormons out there, even if you don’t happen to know any.

It could be the site is more heavily moderated than this one. Some of the Mormon sites are very heavy-handed. In private the Mormons are very anti-Catholic. I don’t know how many times I was told the Catholic Church was the great and abominable church. That all started changing in the 1990s when the Mormons began trying to mainstream and become more acceptable as a way to show they were Christian. I still often hear very anti-Catholic statements in sacrament meeting talks when they talk about the apostasy. Let’s start another apostasy thread and you will see how anti-Catholic Mormons really are.

Or you can just start here:

fairlds.org/apol/ai016.html

This is a really great example of the Mormon’s deceit:

library.lds.org/nxt/gateway.dll/Magazines/Ensign/1976.htm/ensign%20august%201976.htm/clement%20ignatius%20and%20polycarp%20three%20bishops%20between%20the%20apostles%20and%20apostasy%20.htm?fn=document-frame.htm&f=templates&2.0
I see nothing wrong with an intellectual discussion about the apostacy. I think that such discussions and debates are very useful. But name calling and disrespect are quite in another ball park.

Back in my days when I was a “uber Catholic” I used to post on the old FAIR boards. I was told the Catholic Church is a cult of death and we don’t allow contraception or any abortion so everyone can contracts aids and we can cause more death. Or the mother can die because we love death. I heard alot in my time there, much of which was outright anti-Catholic.

If you stick around and wait for a nice topic about the apostasy and wait for a Catholic to start voicing his opinion you’ll get plenty of mud slinging don’t worry.

That said you always start these threads about how great the Mormon boards are just to start a fight, I think we get it. If you love it over there so much one has to wonder why you spend so much time riling everyone up over here?

You may want to ask your mormon friends there to explain,

18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)÷and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt;
that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

1838 First Vision Account
by Joseph Smith

1838 — This account became the official version, now part of Mormon Scripture in the Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith — History, 1:7-20. Though written in 1838, it was not published until 1842 in Times and Season, March 15, 1842, vol. 3, no. 10, pp. 727-728, 748-749, 753.
Why don’t you go and ask them yourself, if you really want to know?

You are right of course. I should have wrote: What some Mormons think about the Catholic Church.

I think the point of this thread is to show that Mormons are more respectful than Catholics. And its a point well proven by the reactions i’ve seen.
you are free to believe that but I see a pattern i whyme’s postings that leads me to believe this is a missionary effort.

I am not riling up anyone here. I am just defending some things about the lds church and attempting to encourage respect on this section of the forum when the lds church is discussed.

I don’t mind negatives about the lds church. It is the tone and the wording that I find just a little distasteful.

Why can’t you think of it in a more positive way? By encouraging respect when a differing religion is discussed, we are actually doing a service to the catholic church. 🙂

If we call the LDS Church or the Book of Mormon “false” it’s distasteful. Get used to the truth about the Mormon Church. It’s false, and we’ve gone into detail here over and over and over again about why it is false.

I don’t agree. The correct title should be: “What Mormons Think of the Catholic Church”. That means that what Mormons in general think of the Catholic Church. There are bound to be individuals in every religion who discent from the general opinion. But the majority opinion determines what the general opinion is. “Some Mormons” implies a minority opinion, which here is not the case.

Whyme is presenting *one *thread found on *one *forum, and you think that is represents the “majority opinion” of *all *Mormons?

“What Some Mormons Think…” or “What These Particular Mormons Think…” or “What the Mormons on This Forum Think…” would also be accurate.

And it is here that the problem exists. A person could write: I would never bash a person- but I do not have to agree with their beliefs and yet, I can still respect their beliefs.
Not this person. I refuse to respect error. I can respect the person, but I refuse to respect error.

How does this sound: If we call the catholic church ‘false’ it’s distasteful. Get used to the truth about the catholic church. It’s false, and we’ve gone into detail here over and over again about why it is false.

Now if this type of post was posted on ldsforums, the catholics on this forum would be outraged and I would never hear the end of it. Right? 🤓

There is no bashing there but there is here. 😉
and that shows what? lack of conviction? you tend to define anything negative about LDS leaders and or teachings as antimormon. that leaves very little to discuss. we could carry this idea out top absurdity as well. should we refrain from “bashing” the beliefs of pagans? satanists? should we refrain from negative comments on the actions of charles manson since some considered him a religious leader? please…

folks are tired of mormon missionary wannabes coming here with misleading stories and setting up fake topics to have “aha!” moments in an effort to gain converts. we denounce mormon doctrine as false, we denounce mormon prophets as false. so does the Bible. for that matter mormon scripture does the same regarding all non-LDS churches. we denounce the harmful actions and teachings of LDS leaders who were acting in official capacity and claiming justification for their actions/teachings as being revealed from God. how is that wrong?

I don’t post on fair or farms or mormonapologetics because I respect their space to spread their message to those who go to them seeking it. I post here because I wish to ensure that those seeking CATHOLIC ANSWERS aren’t deceived by mormons. the mormon church does not teach the type of everyone is going to heaven if they are good people doctrine anymore than catholics do. there is no room for sitting here. both views cannot be correct and thus we MUST ensure that we clearly delineate the differences so that we can identify the correct path. both Catholics and mormons believe there is only one church that God established and presides over. This is important then to determine. which is it? mormon discussion boards should be expected to promote their case. I don’t really care how they do that. Catholic boards need to be able to provide the truth to those seeking the Catholic perspective. you can label it whatever you wish but telling the truth in the case of the LDS is going to reveal some things people are going to have strong opinions about. I don’t accept discarding history either despite LDS leaders idea that “much that is true isn’t very useful” since it’s not faith promoting for LDS.

I do not shy away from catholic history either and i think it’s okay to talk about problematic popes, crusades, clergy abuses, etc. we need to be open and upfront about wrongdoing and ensure that we don’t create new problems by whitewashing the old ones.

no i would expect that over there and since it represents canonized LDS scripture why shouldn’t mormons say that on their own sites? we would be outraged if it was done over here. (which it has)

As someone who went from being a Mormon to being a Catholic (started as an unbaptized person who considered myself “Christian”), I can say that I ONLY heard negative things from all the Mormons in my ward regarding the Catholic Church as a whole. I was “disfellowshipped” or something like that and there are only 2 or 3 families that will even still speak with me from that ward. In fact I was told by a member that since I no longer was Mormon I probably lost ALL of my morals…you know because I became Catholic  I do not judge whether a person is “good” or not based on what religion they are…I have known BAD people who are “Mormon” and I have known some really good people. But I can say that everything I was told as a Mormon about the Catholic Church was negative…EVERYTHING.

Well your little bit about the catholic church HAS been posted on this site by LDS. The nice mormons on your link didn’t have any ugly catholics in their faces. Works both ways don’t want nastiness directed at you don’t direct it at others. And backhanded compliments don’t count.

You may have had a bad experience. If I was in that ward I would have given those members a tongue lashing. Ignorance can be found everywhere. 😊
