It does seem to me that the more I found out about the problems with Mormonism, the more good things I had to say about the Catholic Church. I think more and more Mormons are finding out about some of these problems with Mormonism. It only makes sense they would begin saying more good things about Catholicism as they find out what is wrong with Mormonism. Perhaps many of them are waking up just like many of us here did! Perhaps their desire for acceptance comes from an understanding that many of their beliefs are without any foundation. I have heard that about 100,000 people per year are resigning from the Mormon Church. Many more simply go inactive or remain only as social Mormons playing the game to satisfy their community. I would expect many of them will recognize the one true Christian faith when they are exposed to Catholic teachings.

And then there are the hard core Mormons who come here to try to defend the faith. I counted myself as one of those at one time. Thanks be to God that He sent the Holy Spirit to enlighten my mind.
People are “waking up” and shunning the Mormon Church yet CA is using the explosive growth of the LDS church as propaganda to raise money. Something doesn’t equate here. You say that members are falling away from the Mormon Church in droves and that those who stick around are apathetic in their faith. This rhetoric has been used by anti-mormons for as long as I remember. In fact, the opposite is true. The general population of the LDS Church has never been more solid in their conviction of the reality of the Restored Gospel, that Joseph Smith truly was a Prophet of God, that the Book of Mormon is exactly what it professes to be - a history of a branch of the house Israel and another witness of Christ, That the church is led by Christ through a living Prophet, That the authority of God rests with the Church as the Kingdom rolls forth to fill the whole earth.

I respect your right to draw your own conclusions and to highlight your perceived “problems with Mormonism”. You may be right that all those Mormons are deceived but if so most are firm in their deception. But then again, maybe all those Catholics are deceived.

I am enclosing a link where mormons are discussing the catholic faith. I think that you will find that the spirit is much more christian on the ldsforums thread. I haven’t read all the posts but the ones that I read are very christian centered. I think that you may be surprised at the good spirit on that forum in general. I have seen no catholic bashing on that site like I have seen Mormon bashing on this site.

Perhaps I should have read all the posts. Maybe there are some anticatholic posts…😊
Mormons are wrong. I will explain to you why if you really want to know why. My big issues with you religiously can not be overcome. You lie about Jesus. That is completely unacceptable. On the other side of that, socially you are all racist. I can not allow that and I will confront every mormon I come into contact with.

By the way, you mormons are the ones always knocking on my door telling me I am going to hell for not being white. That goes beyond Catholic bashing, that is HUMAN bashing. Get your priorities in order.

There are no Mormons anywhere that are in accord with Mormon teachings that are teaching that non-white people are going to hell. That’s simply a lie.

There ‘might be’. I hadn’t read any so far. The first ones were very Catholic-friendly, actually:
The RCC is one of the world’s great Church’'s and deserving of much respect and appreciation … When Catholics die, after a short stop over for processing, go to heaven.
I’ve clicked on a couple of sites from Catholics about the Mormon faith that are strongly worded and anti-Mormon. But I don’t think all Catholics have the same sentiments.
Btw they may have gotten the notion that the Catholic Church was the Great Abominable church from a book that came out decades ago and was refuted by the First Presidency of the LDS Church.

Then you need to call the duo of cyclist who go all over my neighborhood and tell people this to STOP doing it. You can’t turn these guys loose and have them tell people one teaching and then when we confront you on it turn around and say, “oh but we don’t really teach that.” If you don’t teach it then why are they telling it to people? Somebody is a liar. Just for the record, even yourown documents from your mormon website echo this teaching but the language is just a bit flowered up.

All in all, dispite the racist fact of the mormons, they lie about Jesus and that can not be overcome. I will live by the Truth alone. I need not lies in my life. Jesus is truth and it would be better for the mormons to not know him at all then to lie about him.

I’m a former Mormon who is now Catholic. Mormons do not believe people are going to hell because they aren’t white. That’s simply garbage. Even when they didn’t give the priesthood to black people they believed black people could go to their Celestial Kingdom. They always taught that eventually African blacks would get the priesthood and be eligible for all of the blessings anyone else gets. And non-African blacks with dark skins (Pacific Islanders) were always allowed the priesthood and into the temple . So any Mormon who you find teaching that non-whites are going to hell is simply not teaching what the Mormon Church teaches.

Claudius, IMO, LDS believe that racism is a natural consequence of the sins of one’s ancestors. Those sins caused their skins, and the skins of their descendants to become dark. So, conversion to Mormonism, accepting this doctrine, allows one to escape from racism, and hopefully, according to those those thus brainwashed, turns their skins lighter. So, you see, skin color doesn’t send one to hell. Hope this helps. You do sound depressed. 😦

I was heartened to see that the posters were very respectful of the catholic faith. Very seldom do mormons say unkindly things about the catholic church these days. Of course, every faith has bad apples but by and large there is respect among the mormons about catholicism.

👍 True enough. Also african-americans did have the priesthood during the time of Joseph Smith. After JS was murdered things began to change.

that’s not exactly accurate. 2 african americans were ordained during JS time. both of which were special cases.(according to him) By and subsequent leaders were okay with these “exceptions” even to the point of ordaining descendants of one of them. however as late as mark e petersen and Ezra t benson the doctrinal justification for the “ban” was being preached by LDs leaders. Even Spencer kimball in his OD implies that the ban was correct and directed by God but “expired” after the appropriate time.

I never said that. But what I did say was: respect and kindness is christian.
But sometimes, so is anger. Mark 3:5 and John 2:13-22, for example.

Respect for disparate beliefs is fine, unless those beliefs are illogical. I will respect the beliefs of a Buddhist agnostic, but not of a Catholic who thinks murder is ok, or that 2 + 2 = 5. I’m not saying anything about Mormonism necessarily, since I don’t know anything about it, but Jesus wasn’t always “nice,” so neither must we be, and respect for the beliefs of others is only a good thing if those beliefs are coherent.

Well, I have nothing against most mormons, but I do not agree with their religion, and I think that there is something strange with the way mormons are so blank. Have you ever noticed the way all mormons have such blank faces, and they hardly every show emotion? It is just weird. It is like the people in the SSPX, I have nothing really against them, but just their beliefs. I mean I know that I have the truth, and I know they think they have the truth, and when I see how well they work for this false truth, I get fusterated that they are not working as well for THE TRUTH. We need some annoying Catholic missionaries who wear habits instead of white shirts and ride on horses or cars instead of bikes. 🤷 😃

I hate to see zealots for something that is false. It is 😦 , and I wish they were fighting on the right side which would be 👍 😃 😉

I respect the beliefs of others, so long as those beliefs encourage ethical behavior. If those beliefs which disrespect the rights of others are illogical, or are based on historical inaccuracy, then I will attack the illogic and the historical inaccuracy. I will not use ad hominem attacks, since there are many LDS people who behave in as ethical manner as their culture permits.

I haven’t noticed that Mormons have blank faces. Where did you come up with that one? They have blank faces sometimes during their sacrament meetings, but that is just because the meetings are so boring.

Well, my entire family agrees and many other non-Mormons that I know agree.
I live in Nevada, and it must have the second largest population of Mormons in the US. They are everywhere. But…I hate to say this, because it isn’t too nice, but…my dad says they look deer in the headlights. They just have a sort of empty expression. 🤷 Maybe it is just Utah, Nevada Mormons, I don’t know. My aunt used to be Mormon, now she is nothing, but all of her kids and her husband had that blank look. She grew up Catholic, so she did not have the look, but they all did and so do most Mormons I meet. Sort of like:🙂 just a bland happyness.Or a bland sadness:o I just want to show lots of emotion   😦 whenever I am around them. Whenever we are around our Mormon cousins, we are the loudest and we have the most fun.

OK, I said it. Don’t get all mad at me.

I have not been around hundreds of Mormons, but have gotten to know a few. It is much harder to connect with them. They are distant. I know they connect with one another, because I have seen it, but there is some kind of wall between them and non-Mormons. The deer in the headlights look is pretty accurate. Maybe they don’t see it, or sense it, but others do. Maybe it is the end of the world, doomsday, crawl into the mountain for Mormons only, come out and breed and repopulate the world beliefs that cause this.

I’ve noticed this in the speech of the LDS Presidents and other LDS leaders when I’ve seen them on TV. There is a definite sameness of intonation, a pleasantly bland prosody.

I have heard non-mormons say this before. I was raised in a very mormon family and I didn’t notice growing up that people had blank faces. As I left mormonism I noticed that I was more relaxed, able to laugh more and freely. As I noticed this about myself, I noticed that my family is beyond sober all the time. I don’t mean alcohol free, I mean just a sober demeanor.

I have a sister who left the mormon church. She has gone back to mormonism, and I notice that she has grown more sober than she used to be. She doesn’t laugh as freely and has definitely developed a “blank face”. It makes me kind of sad, actually. I sometimes wonder if she is happy.

I have never been through a mormon temple ceremony, but a few years ago a mormon pointed out to me that in their temple ceremony they are told to avoid light mindedness and loud laugher. I believe the soberness, and the blank face, has something to do with this teaching.

Many mormons are very successful in business and in life. They did not get there by having distant connections with other people or by having a deer in the headlights look. In fact, BYU is a very popular destination of corporate recruitment. No crawling into a mountain attitude but very much in the world trying to do the will of christ.
