What movies did you think were overrated?

That’s another James Cameron film that got way too much praise. It was literally just Pocahontas in space.

The guy did some decent action films in the 80s, but I really haven’t enjoyed his newer stuff. I think the fame and money went to his head.

All the reviews and talk-show pushers led me to expect some kind of life-changing event, but I got just three words for it:

-T-roy (I don’t remember if it was a hyped up movie or not, I just didn’t think it was that great, though I loved the Hector character/actor).
-The sequals to Pirates of the Caribbean
-The X-men trilogy (still entertaining though, just not worth the hype).
-Twister

That’s all I can think of for now…
 
You know? I don’t watch movies too often, but the ones I do often turn out to be pretty good.

But if I had to name one, the LOTR Trilogy. Too long. Very good, but not “epic”. I caught the story, somewhat, but it seemed to hang together somewhat loosely. Seemed just as interested in intense battle sequences. Which is good, don’t get me wrong. But I like the plot to move along.

Also, when I was MUCH younger, Thomas and the Magic Railroad. I later learned it was considered a rather terrible movie, but I liked it at the time.

“The Departed” and “Man in the Iron Mask” were pretty darn good… Man in the Iron Mask was not overrated because everyone thought it stunk. But The Departed, Wow, that was one of Scorsese’s masterpieces. Perhaps in spite of leo and not because of him, but that was a movie that was better than billed.

Why it was in the theaters for an entire year is beyond me. It wasn’t a bad movie but I was expecting something more with all the hype.

For my own pick, I think I have to say the Hobbit series. A lot of people I know absolutely loved them. I just never did.

then the reviews came in mixed plus it is so long
 
Love Story.

An ocean of baby boomers went to see this because they were dating and seeing it was socially mandatory. The girls got to cry … their dates got to “console them”. A good time was had by all.

But the movie opened with that great song … and went downhill from there … with a slight
interest building once the manipulative “she’s gonna die …” sad music rescued it somewhat.

“Shut up Preppie!” “I’m studying! I’m really studying!” < (also having dorm sex at the same time, but offscreen, wink, wink).

“Loving someone means never having to say you’re sorry!” < A philosophy that doubtless padded the astronomical divorce rates incurred in subsequent years.

This was so hyped that even a B+ movie would have been overrated. This is C+ to B- .
Not as good as the “Sterile Cuckoo” - except that the romantic interests are way cuter.
 
DISNEY’S “RETURN TO OZ” is the sickest of the Disney kid-traumatizing “menacing adult” movies in a long line of adult-hating, kid-traumatizing flicks by Uncle Walt and Brother Roy. Here’s one reviewer showing a parallel with MK ULTRA mind control techniques and, if nothing else, the screen shots evidence the pathologically sadistic twists in this re-written Baum sequel where a troubled Dorothy is given electro-convulsive therapy/ECT.

Most Mel Brooks movies. Short shelf life too. See one. If you like it see it again. And see if it doesn’t drop a letter grade as you find more and more things wrong in between the few laughs.

History of the World was terrible. Saw Blazing Saddles again. What was I thinking?
 
Grease! < Basically My Fair Lady turned inside out. Nice refined girl gets corrupted.

Music not near as good as Lerner and Loewe. A real morality inversion flick.

But " … it’s got a good beat … you can dance to it!"

Too long, we just quit after half of it. I think Matthew McCounagkhagye…there is no right way to write his name lol…I think his fan girl base is why it’s so popular.

I was sort of forced (yes, forced) to watch the first “Twilight” movie. Though it was not horrible, I don’t see why it became so popular. Heck, the princess bride was a better love story and we only got one of those! When did vampires become “hot” to women? I though they were supposed to be scary.

Why is this movie so popular? I saw it and thought it was absolute garbage. I found it EXTREMELY annoying that the mother in the movie kept using our Lords name in vain. She could have said “For pete’s sake” instead. It was just so annoying to me.

The Simpsons Movie
This movie was being hyped up for probably a decade before it was even made and when it finally was made, it was a big disappointment to me. The storyline was too over the top even for The Simpsons standards. I am sorry to say that I do not think The Simpsons have been funny for the last 15 years. I will always love them from my childhood but this movie proved that they will never be funny again to me.
