Post the ancient Greek and we’ll talk.

Here’s a question to you. Given that Paul wasn’t even one of the 12, how did you know that he had authority?Paul wrote most of the New Testament epistles. He wasn’t one of the 12. The 12 did preach a gospel. Can you tell me the content of the gospel they preached? Did it include the gospel by which we are saved in this dispensation of the grace of God? Which is, the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Show me where they preached this in the 4 gospels. You may want to check Mattthew 16:21-23, Luke 18:31-34 and John 20:9 to see if they preached what Paul preached in 1 Cor. 15:1-4.
I pray that this will help your understanding.

Quickcat, I appreciate your pitty, I guess I’ll go back to my college now…David: I am so sorry that you don’t understand the Word of God…
I am familiar with Paul’s Episltle to the Romans and I am aware that Paul was a member of the Jewish Senhedrin and a Pharisee. I also understand that the Kingdom of God was intrusted to the children of Abraham by virtue of the covenant God made with Abraham. And finally I understand that the Law was given to Moses who was a desendent of Abraham. But the question is what constitutes a Jew? Is it circumcision done with hands, or is one a Jew by faith in God?It is no secret that Gentiles would be saved. Under the prophetic plan, when the kingdom is established on earth with the Lord Jesus Christ sitting on David’s throne in Jerusalem Israel will be the instrument to evangelize the Gentiles. But the Jews rejected their Messiah and that kingdom is now in abeyance until the “fulness of the Gentiles be come in.” .
Here is something you don’t understand Quickcat. The Key to Kingdom of God was transfered from Israel to the Church because of Israel’s rejection of Christ. Hence we read:David: I am so sorry that you don’t understand the Word of God.
Oh Good so now we know that 1 and 2 Maccabees, Sirach, Wisdom, Baruch, Tobit, and Judith are the Word of God:
Nah, the Bible says it is the Word of God. ALL SCRIPTURE is God breathed…" 2 Tim 3:16
The Word of God is ALIVE and POWERFUL…Heb. 4:16
So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD OF GOD - Romans 10:17
Peter implies that Paul’s epistles are SCRIPTURE - 2 Peter 3:15,16
Oh Good so now we know that 1 and 2 Maccabees, Sirach, Wisdom, Baruch, Tobit, and Judith are the Word of God
Peace,
David
Yes, and so does the Koran. So saying something is inspired does not make it so.Nah, the Bible says it is the Word of God.
ALL SCRIPTURE is God breathed…" 2 Tim 3:16

So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD OF GOD - Romans 10:17

That’s why they are included in the 1611 King James Version of the Holy Bible, I guess!Oh Good so now we know that 1 and 2 Maccabees, Sirach, Wisdom, Baruch, Tobit, and Judith are the Word of God
Peace,

None of the things listed above are requirements for salvation. I can see why you look down so strongly on protestants. You got burned there. I know many who were burned badly in the catholic church as well. The bottom line is, it’s not about anything we do or don’t do in our own efforts, whether it’s catholic or protestant, it’s about what Jesus did.Following PRMerger’s list in the previous post, here’s a short list of the choices in Protestantism: Which must I subscribe to in order to be saved? Oy veh!
you want tongues? you got it
tongues are demonic? got that too
infant baptism? got it…
…no
hot chocolate and cinnamon toast? yeah, yummy
the list can go on and on . . . but we’ll stop here
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF BELIEVING ( fill in the blank ), RAISE YOUR HAND!
I cut and pasted (saved) this long ago, but I don’t know the source. I made a few changes and added the last line.

And what is “required for salvation”? Must one be baptized? Must one go to church? Must one read the Bible?None of the things listed above are requirements for salvation. We’re talking about justification, being made right before God so these verses explain how we are justified, which is through Jesus Christ. And what is “required for salvation”? Must one be baptized? Must one go to church? Must one read the Bible?
How do you know what’s “required”, and please cite your bible verses.
Leadee,We’re talking about justification, being made right before God so these verses explain how we are justified, which is through Jesus Christ.
Here are some:
Romans 3:28-30 says - “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.”
Romans 4:5 - But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,"
Romans 5:1 - “therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Romans 10:4 - “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
Romans 11:6 - But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."
Galatians 2:16 -“nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.”
Galatans 2:21 - I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.
Galatians 3:5-6 - I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.
Galatians 3:24 - “Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 -"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. 9Not by works, lest any man
Phillipians 3:9 - “and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.”
Leadee, I have filled in and made emphasis in the scripture passages you truncated in order to put them in their proper context. This should help you understand the bible correctly. Clearly now we can see that what Paul is referring to is the works of the Mosaic Law in the flesh which were required in order to obtain righteousness. Paul is pointing out that the Jews and the Gentiles are no longer subject to the Mosaic Law with its WORKS of the flesh such as circumcision, ceremonial washings, the observance of new moons Sabbath Days ect… (Colossians 2:16-17). This Covenant has been set aside for a new and better covenant making the Law of Moses Obsolete (Hebrews 8)we’re talking about justification, being made right before god so these verses explain how we are justified, which is through jesus christ.
Here are some:
Romans 3:28-30 says - "for we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
Ephesians 2:8-9 -"for by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of god. 9not by works, lest any man boast. 10 for we are god’s workmanship, created in christ jesus to do good works, which god prepared in advance for us to do.
phillipians 3:1-9 - " watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 for it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the spirit of god, who glory in christ jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though i myself have reasons for such confidence.
** If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, i have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of israel, of the tribe of benjamin, a hebrew of hebrews; in regard to the law**, a pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.
7 but whatever was to my profit i now consider loss for the sake of christ. 8 what is more, i consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing christ jesus my lord, for whose sake i have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that i may gain christ and may be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but that which is through faith in christ, the righteousness which comes from god on the basis of faith. I want to know christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Pressing on toward the goal
12 not that i have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but i press on to take hold of that for which christ jesus took hold of me. 13 brothers, i do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. but one thing i do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 i press on toward the goal to win the prize for which god has called me heavenward in christ jesus. "
I also like to include Saint Paul, in Romans 2:5-8Leadee, We show our love of God by our faith and our love of neighbor by our works. Both are required for salvation. See Mt 25:31-46 and James 2:24, among many other verses in Scripture.
Well putLeadee, We show our love of God by our faith and our love of neighbor by our works. Both are required for salvation. See Mt 25:31-46 and James 2:24, among many other verses in Scripture.
And, as I always remind you and others, the New Testament consists of 27 of the Catholic Church’s own writings. That is history. That cannot be denied. Christ founded the Church; the Church in turn wrote the NT and compiled and named the Bible. If you would pay attention to the beginning of each ‘book,’ you would see that the NT was written by Catholics, to Catholics, and for Catholics. It was not written for those outside the Church. It is not a systematic instruction book in Christianity, as Protestants – you included – try to make it. The NT is the written record of the spiritual live of the newborn Catholic Church for the first 50 years or so after she was founded by Jesus Christ.
Jesus didn’t leave us a book; He left us the Catholic Church as our teacher and guaranteed that she would teach the TRUTH always. He never instructed anyone to write anything. The NT can’t be understood correctly unless it’s read in the context of the believing, teaching Church who wrote it.

This is a classic example of Sola Scriptura ! Cherry pick what you want from the Bible and omit what does not fit ones personal interpretation or ideology. And what of all the other verses in Scripture, Leadee?
They are not “required” for our salvation?
For example: take 1 Peter 3:21. Is this verse one that can be dismissed?
Or Malachi 1:11?
And how do you know which verses are the essentials?
Must one be baptized in order to be saved? And how do you know?
