Pope Victor V if from Africa
Pope Isaac if from Canada
Pople Gabriele Maria if from China
Pope Thomas if from India
Pope Francis Xavier if from Japan
Pope Juan Diego if from South America
So what if Cardinal Dolan (or another American) is elected?

Sylvester …

I always liked Saint Sylvester.

Would also help return to classical names.

No way to answer the OP’s question …

But I would be thrilled if the new Pontiff chose the name Thomas …

… after the Apostle and evangelizer who doubted Jesus’ Resurrection but then so zealously brought the faith to other lands, including India. He loved the faith so much he was martyred for it.
… after St. Thomas Aquinas, priest, theologian, and Doctor of the Church.
… after St. Thomas More, a brilliant and joyful family man, defender of the Church, especially concerning marriage and the supremacy of the Pope. He would not cave in to secular powers during a time of great persecution of the Church, and was convicted and then killed for treason.

Has there ever been a Pope Francis (Francesco)?

What a wonderful sign it would be if there were… a symbol of a humble and giving faith…

If the new Pope loved the name Urban but felt unworthy to take it, could he be called Suburban? (insert groans here)

Patrick.☘️😃 (Could even be elected on 17th just for good measure!)
I don’t think he’ll use a recently used name, from the 20th Century that is.
It would be nice if it were one that was original, though I doubt it.

I hope something not used lately, like Alexander, Clement, Gregory, or something like that. I’m tired of Johns and Pauls and Piuses populating the last century or so.

:Once again, [tongue FIRMLY in cheek]
PETRUS ROMANUS
:p:choocho::whackadoo:

I honestly think it will be Benedict XVII Signaling the continuity of the emeritus Pope and the new Pope. I think it would go a long way to silencing those who think a new Pope will be more “progressive”
It would be “seamless”
I would also love a Pope Pius XVIII
I am warming to Gregory.
It most certainly will not be JPIII. There may never be one. But it is too soon to slap a label on JPII.
As much as I would love it it probably wont be peter or Petrus Romanus.
Even if one subscribes to the prophesies they are subtle. It would be a link to a devotion to Peter or something done during the pontificate that was Peter like, or a cardinal with Peter in the name etc… (Turkson is even too overt, but Bertone might fit.;))

It would be no different than 1903-1958. Pius, Benedict, Pius, Pius. 47 years of Pius and 8 of Benedict.
That is why I say Dionysius II should be the next pope’s name. Something from 1st few centuries of popes should be used. It’d be unique and traditional. 👍

Then how about Hillarius. that would be funny.😃

I like Caius too.
