That being…?
Abandoning Rome for Avignon and exterminating the Knights Templar? Just a guess. That being…?
Good guess, and I should have thought of that. But no.Maximilian75:![]()

It would not surprise me in the least if Pope Francis turns out to be the first in a three or four hundred year long unbroken series of Jesuit popes.I had in mind Clement XIV, known for suppressing the Jesuits.
I will always cherish the Jesuits of the pre- and post-suppression eras. Our own North American martyrs are Jesuits.Well… the Old Jesuits were so cool - Watch The Mission sometime. I really don’t know why they were suppressed back then…
The New Jesuits (Ie the left leaning, academic, rather heterodox ones that emerged in the mid to late 20th century, I agree.
I doubt it; there aren’t that many Jesuit bishops around, much less Cardinals.porthos11:![]()

Jesuits took a vow to not seek higher office…Yes, I know the irony there.AndrewAxland:![]()

That’s not going to happen. He’s been reprimanded and publicly corrected by Pope Francis, and his vision is vastly at odds with the Pope’s. Whoever the next pope is is going to be elected specifically to carry on with Pope Francis’s vision. Someone like Reinhard Marx. Only a handful of cardinals want to return to the PR disaster of his predecessor. Sarah is even more gaffe-prone.I’d certainly be up for Pope Robert. About time we had another African Pope, too.
