I’ve had trouble before with understanding Mary’s role, but as you said, logic straightened me out

I could honestly see a John XXIV or Paul VII.

Benedict XVII maybe.

I do not see a John Paul III in the near future, though.

Pope Benedict Francis. He will make it his mission to realize the visions of his two immediate predecessors.

Then we can call him Benedict Francis the First, or BFF for short. I will then make t-shirts with his picture on it that say “I love my BFF.” 🙂

My vote John XIV is because St. John the Baptist is the greatest prophet closing the line of the prophets of the Old Testament, and in today’s faithful world we handle a lot of attempted prophecising. Jesus never said a prophet will succeed him. One way or the other God will remind the Christian world that, after the prophets now it is time for the apostolic work.
John in Hebrew Yochanan means God is full of grace or God is merciful.
I truly believe the next pope will be a Yochanan.

Someone who could be more or less a ‘continuity’ Pope from Francis but in a more low-key way would be more unifying, and to be a unifier will probably be the other big pastoral imperative. Say for example Cardinal Parolin.
